Have you looked at the Monetta Young Investor Fund(MYIFX)? Nice starter college saving fund that reaches out to the kids. A small fund but expense ratio capped at 1%. $100 minimum investment.
I think that comment about "don't worry about the (401k) account now, worry about it when you retire" would be funny--if it weren't so painfully sad.
So what would the person who retired in 2008 think of that comment? Or the family that went to send their child to college in 2008?
Clearly, this sort of thinking is flawed.
There are better ways to do this. Do you want a financial plan based on Hope, or on Certainty?
Stock Market investing isn't working the way it used to, and there are good reasons why it isn't--and why it isn't going to change for at least another 10 years.
Maybe its time we gored this sacred cow.
