Henry Drummond

When I was a boy my mother called me into the house and sat me down in front of the television. I can still see her pointing to the old black and white T. V. and saying "You have to watch this. History is being made."

It was August of 1963 and I got to hear Martin Luther King's famous "I have a Dream" speech live. I was only nine but I still remember being stirred by Dr. King's hope that his children would grow up in world "where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character".

I watched history being made again today. I watched the inauguration with a room full of college students, most of whom simply couldn't imagine why it was any big deal that an African American had just become their President. Oddly enough I felt happy for their lack of awe.

Perhaps we are truly getting closer to Dr. King's dreamed of day when we will sing together the words of an old spiritual - "Free at Last! Free at Last! Thank God All Mighty we are Free at Last!"

ReallY?

Michelle Obama's dress made her look like Bam-Bam... What an ugly dress. I hope that the Obama's can get their money back.

Rain on YOUR PARADE

Yes, I agree we saw history, but not for the same reason everyone is whooping and a hollerin'. What we see is the rise of a man who had the connections from an unclosed (foreign) source and did it with the backing of some very powerful deep pockets. THAT IS HISTORY HERE PEOPLE. Watch, for the chances of it every happening again after all is said and done is next to zero. So I cannot agree more we saw history, but we are all in for a very long four years. Camelot was not what it seemed, was no fairy tale. Somethings just don't change like that nor happen everyday by chance. There is always a price attached. God bless America!! Let's hope there is change, but for good.

Dear Rain

Geeze. Obama was not my cup of tea. I voted for him, because McCain is a democrate and Palin is a nutcase. I really was left without a choice.

Now, History WAS made yesterday and with this VOTE BY THE PEOPLE. I voted for the guy, and will support him so long as he does this gig right. The people spoke.

Paula

I thought she looked lovely!

Michelle finally got the dress right. Her evening gown was exquisite. The inauguration dress looked a little out dated, but maybe that is the look she was going for.

I think Michelle Obama has thus far exhibited grace in dealing with the public spotlight. She is a beautiful woman and her clothing is appropriate. I think she looked beautiful in her ball gown.

She's a regular person. One of us. Are we attempting to hold her to a shallow standard that 99 per cent of us could never manage?

Jeff R.

He has no idea what he is getting him self into, all of his policies he lined out in his campaine have thrown out the window. People voted for change and it may not be the change they were told they were going to get. But he is our president and i hope he does great. Because if he doesnt we are all screwed.

PWP

"YOUR PARADE" ??? One day maybe we can do away with religion and political parties so we can stop all this separation. We all come from the same dust, who cares what face is placed in front of us? Can it really get worse than the last eight years?

Anonymous

I love the way they look at each other.

C'mon

PWP, you asked "Can it really get worse than the last eight years? " The answer is clearly, YES, and it will. Obama cannot bring us together becaus eof his extreme views. Plain and simply put, if you thought BUsh was bad then you are in for a rude awakening with BHusseinO....

BTW, I agree that Michell's dress is hideous in looks.

babygirl

im so readyy for the change.
G0 BARACK!!!

Change

If you want change then why didn't you just schedule fewer balls. Why send tax money on parties all night long. There are those of us that need help. Change lets see what you can do.

*Scoff*

You criticize them for having a ball and spending taxpayers money. If they DONT, you know what will happen, right? Of COURSE people are going to say 'oh look, they're too ashamed to have a ball and celebrate their inauguration." "That's right, there's nothing to celebrate!" "They're in a back room hiding away from people plotting the demise of America" and so on, ad nauseum.

Do you *not* have a birthday party just because times are bad? Sure maybe you tone down a little bit. Did they have fireworks? Did they have free champagne for all? Stop griping.

Bro Chuck's Rock & Roll

Yes it's true, they say, "a picture is worth 1,000 words", right. Let's be politically correct here, President Obama is not the first African-American in The White House, that's a lie. Biologically: white parent and black parent = bi-racial. But really, the biracial community is a group unto itself and should be defined as such by those who are biracial and no one else.

Phoebe

I don't share many of Rick Warren's views, but I loved his reference to "civility when we differ," and I'd really like to see more civility in our comments here. Surely we can disagree with each without being caustic or mean-spirited. Let's try to begin the change right here, on our blogs and comments.

Brighamite

Bro Chuck is right. Obama is not the first African-American president. He is clearly biracial. His mother was as white as they come other than some Native-American blood from what I understand. What Is interesting is that it seems like biracial people always consider themselves to be a member of the race other than caucasian. People that are half black and half white seem to always consider themselves black. People that are half Native American always say they are Native American. Etc, etc, etc.

President Oboma and First Lady Oboma make a beautiful couple. She is always elegant. I am so very glad that I have lived to see this moment. They are so very intelligent. I remember all the things that have happened to the African Americans and I know Reverend Martin Luther Kings speech in Washington, D.C. almost by heart and I believed him.
I cannot help but believe that our Ethernal Heavenly Father has had a hand in all that has come about and if America wants to do something for this country, they should all get down on their knees and thank their Heavenly Father for this moment and ask his forgiveness for all these years of turmoil and hate. We are all brothers and sisters and we all have a Heavenly Father that we will each answer to. I love my country. I love my brothers and sisters. I pray that we will all begin to do what our Heavenly Father would want us to do, love one another, pray for each other, help one another, rebuild our neighborhood and communities. May God bless America and our new President and his family.

Obama is a freakin celebrity. He is in it for the fame. And even if he does do a good job I won't like him any more. He thinks he's better than everyone else.

change

You voted for change, we needed change, we got all the same old retreads. The same old failed democrat policies.

We need change. lets hpoe we get it. Like or not Obama is our president. Until he proves otherwise support him. We do get to vote in four more years.

By the way, I am not a democrat. I believe that the paarty should be called socialcrats right now. However we need t try what has been voted for.
