Be a good representative of women's athletics. It wasn't all that long ago that the only role women had on a court or field was jumping like a Mexican jumping bean, waving pom poms , kicking their legs in the air, and yelling out cheers. I'm glad that time is over and women have the opportunity to use their athleticism actually playing the sport. It isn't a missionary calling--it's a vindication that women can do what only men used to be able to do. There are many other barriers that need to be b roken in the future. Some are related to faith, There was a time when women were not allowed to pray in sacrament meeting.

Erin, keep letting your light shine! Remember the signs at the entrance to your alma mater, "Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve" and "The World Is Our Campus". Now, your read education (and opportunity) to serve begins. Good luck in your career! God bless!

They are so very clever in how they take pot shots at the LDS faith. Has little to do with the article itself.

Just remember Erin, the glory of God is intelligence. Use your degree wisely. Remember, knowledge is good.

Good for her---although it isn't real basketball because these ladies are not thugs and hoodlums like most of the NBA guys. Don't you have to be a gun-runner or something like that to be considered great in the NBA? I know that even the retirees of that noble institution have a hard time keeping up with the drinking and carousing of guys like Charles Barkley. They mostly try though.

Erin!!! Great to hear the update. Thanks DesNews for following up on her. I was in Erin's graduating class at Mountain View H.S. in Orem. She was a class act then and still is now. She was always a lot of fun to be around, and I am not ashamed to say that back in high school she absolutely worked my trash in a game of one on one. Best of success to you Erin!

Kristin Rasmussen, Minnesota Lynx, is LDS

I went to Church with Kristin Rasmussen's family in Michigan. Kristin played for Michigan State and has played in the WNBA for several teams. She is an active member from a good LDS family.

Curious about a point above: "it's a vindication that women can do what only men used to be able to do."

What exactly is it about doing something that only men used to do? A man and a woman are genetically different. Please do not tell me that womens bb is "equal" to watching, or playing mens bb. The style of the game is entirely different.

There are exceptional female athletes who play bb, but by and large, the athleticism displayed is much stronger in the mens game.

Not taking anything away from the topic of the article, just commenting on the man vs woman issue. Most men's college teams would beat a wnba team without too much of a challenge.

No only is Rasmussen LDS, but I'm guessing she's also the LDS teammate in Greece that the article spends two paragraphs talking about. A 30-second search of her name would have turned up her WNBA history and eliminated this glaring error (considering the headline and teaser of this story loudly proclaims Thorn as the only LDS player).

Can we get an update? Maybe a re-write of the headline at least?

Women want to be like men because men are better.

I wish it were still the time that women weren't allowed to pray in sacrament! I always worry I'm going to trip coming back down.

I don't watch women's basketball, nor do I watch men's basketball. However, I applaud Erin for her spunk and determination to be the best she can in her favorite sport and if she can make a living at it and still keep her testimony of the gospel strong, then more power to her. I have no problem with women doing what only men once did. We are all individuals, each with a mission or missions to perform while we are here for mortality. Apparently, Erin has found hers. As a former long time Oremite, I say to Erin, keep up the good work and God bless you.

Erin Thorn is one of the greatest basketball players to every come out of Utah. Besides her God given talent she has dedicated herself to the constant improvement of her skills. She is a total team player and knows what it takes to win on the court. Even more impressive is her devotion to her family, friends, teammates and church. Erin is a class act and will be a wonderful addition to the Chicago Sky Basketball organization. All of us wish her the very best!

Morgan Warburton is the best girl basketball player ever out of Utah no question about it. Go Utes

Erin Thorn displays some of the jerseys she has worn during her basketball career. Thorn, who is the only Mormon player in the WNBA, has played for Mountain View High School, BYU, the New York Liberty and teams in Greece.
