Interesting spin on this article. The main thing this bill accomplishes is loosening the identification restrictions on S-Chip which opens up the floodgates for illegal aliens who want to participate in this program. It doesn't seem sensible to expand the benefits to illegals during a recession.
The noose of Marxism continues to tighten about the necks of Americans. Pretty soon we'll all be equal . Hope you like equality of poverty.
It's so important that we create a citizenry of sheep who need the Government to hold their hand throughout their lives. Sickening.
The problem with this expansion is that it gives the politicians an excuse to not reform the entire broken healthcare system. It gives a feeling that we are providing for the needs of the needy, but with more doctors refusing to accept Medicaid patients and the increase in unnecessary medical procedures in order to avoid malpractice suits and just to make more money the entire system needs a big overhaul. It won't come as long as we just expand the current system in piecemeal fashion. Hopefully, Obama can do something to fix it.
A government handout is not insurance. It is welfare.
How can insuring CHILDREN be bad. Do you honestly think these parents dont want to insure their kids? If employers dont offer it then were do parents go? YES the system is broken and needs to be fixed NOW. But until then lets get kids insured. No one grouses about the elderly getting medicaid. And I wont either because I respect the elderly. It isnt possible anymore to pay out of pocket and premiums are through the roof. Please show some compassion and quit making it about politics. MA has the best system I can see. I dont believe we should have private rooms and valet type insurance either. Just competent health care with a reasonable deductable and copay. Heads in sand only make you cough up sand. I would welcome a practical realistic discussion on this subjecrt from govt.
To "the noose tightens", can you please tell me what you expect heaven to be like?
Will there be rich and poor in heaven, haves and have nots, winners and losers?
After all, you say "Pretty soon we'll all be equal".
It seems to me that we will all be equal if we get to heaven. What then, will you complain to God that you are surrounded by people you considered lower than you during life?
To me, your attitude seems very different than what I believe Jesus Christ would say about this, like when he said "blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth" during the Sermon on the Mount.
To me, uninsured children seems like the definition of "meek".
GWB-obviously you haven't followed the saga of SCHIP. The truly needy already have access to healthcare- probably better access than I have. We're talking about another middle class entitlement. Did you read the article? In some States people with income over 4 times the poverty level are eligible for this program. That's a handout that they should be paying for themselves.
You don't need to get all high and mighty with the Religion. My response to that is that the more we try to create heaven on Earth then the more we create the exact opposite. Don't believe me? - look at the places where Communist Governments were installed.
I won't even get into the unconstitutionality of Medicaid and SCHIP. Let's just say that the Gov'ts main responsibility is to protect my private property (including income) and to safeguard my right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Not to turn me into a slave by forcing me to pay for someone else's healthcare
GWB: Do you really think Christ would not have taken money from one under threat of imprisonment to give to another? Hardly! If anything Christ taught that the ends to not justify the means. We should love all men as ourselves. We need more persuasion, caring, and concern, not tyranny and control.
lisa: There is nothing wrong with parents insuring their children. There is nothing wrong with others freely assisting parents insure their children. The problem comes when government becomes a tool of compulsion, taking by force from one to give to another.
Bring on the socialism. The government is the worst entity at running things, so lets let them run the whole thing. Makes perfect sense to me.
Don't be fooled by the polititians that are redistributing your property/money to another that they feel deserves it more than you. Its vote buying and power grabbing in its purest form.
KM, when you say "The government is the worst entity at running things" clearly you jest.
When looking at the finacial services industry that is in shambles right now, do you really expect me to believe that private institutions are better at running things without any government control?
In the end, Republican's/conservatives believe in wealth redistribution just as much as anyone. Look how well the top 1% has done over the last 8 years while the average Joe has lost money and their standard of living.
Unemployment is at a record not matched since Reagan was president, poverty is at an alltime high, and all brought to you by conservative trickle down theories that are now soundly disproven.
So, please tell me exactly who believes in wealth redistribution?
Medical care of children is the responsibilty of the parents, not government. It's time for government to stop all welfare programs and make parents responsible for their children. If they claim they can't afford to care for their children then they need to ask for more pay from their employers, not charity from the government. Health care doesn't have to be done by insurance either, they do take cash and real money to pay for an office visit or any medical treatement. People need to be putting the pressure on employers and the labor market for enough pay to cover living expenses. This is where the american people, especially illegals, think the governemtnt owes them everything. The employers are the ones that should be taking care of its employees and paying them enough so they don't need charity and dependence on welfare. Businesses in america have been getting away with robbing from the poor and bringing the wages of workers down to well below poverty levels. Business profits soar and its workers are the ones being left out of their due portion of profits. Workers are the backbone of a business and should treated with respect.
