WE MOVED TO WEST JORDAN A FEW MONTHS AGO AND FOR
THE MOST PART,IT HAS BEEN AN EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE.
WE CAME HERE FROM LOS ANGELES AND MY KIDS HAD BOTH
LDS AND NON-LDS FRIENDS THERE.THEY CONTINUE TO HAVE
FRIENDS BOTH LDS AND NON-LDS HERE BUT WERE A BIT PUT
OFF BY THEIR LDS FRIENDS ATTITUDES TOWARD NON-LDS
PEOPLE HERE.ALSO SOME OF OUR FELLOW LDS MEMBERS HAVE
TOLD US ALSO TO KEEP OUR CALIFORNIA ATTITUDES TO
OURSELVES.IS THERE THAT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE THAT THEY CAN TELL.(I READ COMMENTS POSTED AFTER THE ARTICLE.)
TO JIM LEWIS, I had heard the same till I went there to see my youngest daughter and found out differently. However, that was in Lehi and could be different ells were. You know the truth and know dear brethren those members will be held accountable for their attitude.
The media is not a kind friend to the Church. The Church needs to just give this PR blitz a rest, it scares folks and has led to inactivity and less investigators.
I was raised LDS in the Salt Lake valley. I noticed that many LDS members had this holier-than-thou attitude towards those outside and inside the LDS church. I also noticed that my family had this same attitude especially after they became temple worthy.
Some years later after I had moved away I was saved by Jesus while attending an Evangelical church. Then later had my name removed from the LDS church. When I told my family that I had been saved by Jesus and had my name removed from the church they verbally abused me and laughted at me. Even my daughter told me that she hated me and never wanted to see me again.
It took me a couple of years on my part to bridge this gap so I could have a relationship with my family.
I have noticed that LDS members outside of Utah are much easier to talk to.
You have had a normal experience. Congrats for getting through it. And it is true that Mormons outside of Utah are different and easier to talk to. Most definitely.
In fact, in my town, they are not brazen and keep to themselves.
Marsha,
I do not know why you think that media coverage of the Church is driving away investigators. Everything I have ever seen indicates that coverage like this article speaks of increases interest in the Church.
