Let's see. Dale Murphy had very similar stats with more home runs about 300 less career hits but with a 30 point lower batting average to go with two consecutive MVP awards many Gold Gloves. And Rice gets the Hall of Fame?
I liked Jim Rice, he was a good player, but he played on some very good teams. He was never called on to carry the Red Sox like Murphy was called on to carry the Braves. As I recall, he didn't even play in the 1975 World Series due to injury. Which was too bad. Murphy only played on two or three good Brave teams.
The bottom line is, if Rice deserves the Hall of Fame, Murphy does also.
Why doesn't anyone steal 100 bases a year like Rickey did anymore? Are catchers that much better, do pitchers have better pickoff moves, or are players slower, or all?
