Always handy to have a gun on hand in case somebody does something stupid.

FRED

To bad life is requiring one to pack a gun. I thought that day ended with the settlement of the wild west. If I buy a gun and use it to protect myself I will need to get a attorney on retainer also. The criminal has more rights than the victum. Death is easy, half dead is a problum. Life in the good new USA. Fred

Cell phones, liquor and guns

are a deadly combination in this world of road rage.
Add harmful drugs to the melting pot too. Are any of you involved with any of the above while driving. If so, you are an incident waiting to happen.

Story not complete

It appears from the story that police officer discovered that the driver was texting while driving and this caused is apparent in-and-out behavior. I drive that stretch of I15 every day and I don't see erratic in-and-out behavior caused by texting. It is usually caused by sleepers, inattention to road because of passenger conversations, and people eating at the wheel. I am believe this story is not as complete as it could be and would like further clarification of how this behavior was actually determined.

Gun mantra

Repeat after me: more guns mean less crime!

Mossback George

There will always be a few mental midgets who think guns are the cause of crime. If you think about it for even a few seconds you'll realize that all crimes are caused by people, not by guns. Time to exercise your common sense if you have it.

Don't speculate

I agree, "story not complete". If they don't have the accurate info., then DON'T SPECULATE!!! It ticks me off when people assume the very worst . . . they were talking or texting on the cell phone, they were speeding, they were drowsy, etc. Before destroying someone's reputation, D-News, how about confirming the facts?? I remember the Utah State van accident in which the first "facts" reported were that the driver was exceeding 90 mph. He was killed and unable to defend himself, as was nearly everyone else. It later turned out that he had driven the speed limit and the tires were defective. But the damage had been done: while his family grieved people blamed him for the deaths. I HATE IT when the police and media SPECULATE!!!!

California Andy

Amen, Mossback! In the early part of the last century, it was the fascists that disarmed their citizenry with disastrous results and world war because the citizenry lost control of their governments with no ability to fight back. It is strange how only one political party here in the US wants to strip the citizenry of their weaponry. Believe me, it has zero to do with crime. Only 100%control of YOU!

RE: gun mantra

The US has more criminals per capita in the world including China. More guns means less crime?

Re: Gun Mantra

According to the FBI, nearly 70% of crime committed in the US are perpetrated by young men with no father in the home! Gee, it might be concluded that if people would live the law of chasitity, we might reduce/eliminate crime! If guns cause crime then my computer causes misspelled words. If guns cause crime then matches cause arson. Dang, there goes my danged computer causing misspelled words again!

Re: gun mantra

You are incorrect about the US having more criminals than anywhere in the world. First of all, you have to agree on what is a "crime". In China, criticising the government is a crime. We will never know that number. In Mexico in 2008 there were over 11,000 murders that were reported. Some say most are not reported. In the US, most violent crimes are down according to the US Justice Dept. In Austrailia and England, when guns were outlawed crime shot up. Don't believe me, google it!

Chicago School Shooting

You anti-gunners start ripping on gun owners because of this one incident. Didn't you read the other headline of 5 teens shot at a Chicago highschool? Chicago has some of the toughest gun control laws in the country. You can't own a modern handgun in Chicago let alone possess one in a school. Lot of good all the layers of laws upon laws had there. You'd think you urban liberals would finally get it that "gun free zones" are the places people are most likely to go "Postal" (like at the US Post Office which is a gun-free zone and where disgruntled employees have killed dozens of disarmed, innocent co-workers the past 3 decades. GET A CLUE!!!!!!

Speculation

The cops have the idea everything is all figured out
Once you are accused
They do not want to hear your side of the story
You are charged and that is it
Utah Courts are not run according to the constitution
The Court does not recognize the rules
Thanks to the Attorney General
He could care less
This is what you voted for

Texting and driving don't mix.

At least the shooter got the texter off the road before he killed someone. It's a proven fact that cell phones and drivers using them are more dangerous than drunk drivers. The shooter was acting in self defense to get this guy off the road before he got killed by his stupidity of endangering everone around him. If the guy that got shot was drunk then he would have been blamed for the incident. But the Utah mentallity has yet to be determined, and quick to pass judgement with censored facts from the news media and law enforcement.

liberal Larry

I was surprised to learn that almost 30,000 people die in this country die every year in the U.S. from guns. Yikes! Maybe those Canadians are on to something.

sob

so this turns into an argument about gun control
but no one asks does an argument, or maybe some one flipping you off constitute a reason to potentially take a life? it is my understanding that a professional boxer, if in the heat of the argument and losing control fatally injures someone, can be prosecuted for murder due to having such skills.
having a gun does not mean you shoot everyone who pisses you off. becoming a jerk because some one else is does not solve a problem

utah rose

It would have been better if this driver was weaving in and out of the roads for someone to report him. Texting can be just as dangerous as drunk driving, but shooting a person is not not the answerer either.

And for all you gun haters, if someone wants to murder someone they can use other weapons. Check out the girl who was fatally stabbed by her boyfriend.

Gee, guess we had better hide the knives!

Leeann

I don't know why people are acting so unstable in cars nowadays. But a truck 2 weeks ago almost ran over us in the Costco parking lot. The man must have been driving about 25 miles hours through the parking lot area, and then the man flips us off with his finger after we fell on the ice while trying to get our shopping cart out of his way.

Some of you...

... are missing the point here. I do not care if this kid was drunk, asleep, texting, on the phone, and gettin' some lovin' all at the same time while driving down i-15 at 110 mph. You can't shoot people. This isn't about guns or gun control. It's about stupidity control. Just stop shooting people.

Glad to be in Utah County

I'm glad I live in Utah County and not Salt Lake County. At least it is safer here! Must be something in the water in Salt Lake County.
