Congrats to Florida, but Utah should still have a mention in this issue.

You have to hand it to fox and the BCS, they tried hard to pretend that the BCS means someting - anything - other than money, collusion, and anti-trust.
Florida = Pseudo champions | 10:24 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
Florida is a pseudo champion - it's ridiculous. Florida beats 'Bama and they get to play for the NC. Utah beats 'Bama by more points and they get a pat on the back. The BCS is a monopoly and the biggest sham ever. Utah is the people's choice!

OK--so Florida finished the year with 1 loss and 3 wins over teams that finished the regular season in the Top 25 of the final, regular season AP poll.

Utah finished the season with no losses and 4 wins over teams that finished the regular season in the Top 25 of the final, regular season AP poll.

Please, please, please somebody tell me how Utah is not the number 1 team, at least in the AP poll?

One has to wonder after tonight's result where Utah really deserves to be in the National Polls. The only thing standing between the Utes and Florida is a bunch of greedy BCS executives wanting to keep the power and money of a corrupt system.

kudos Gators. One of the four National Champs. How thrilling.

Florida 19th toughest schedule

Utah 70th toughest schedule

Utah has no claim on the title.

Good night. Dream on Utah.

I for one have no idea who the national champions should be. Without a playoff how can you possibly say who the true champion is? Sure Utah beat Alabama, but could they beat Florida? I think they could, but we'll never know. The logic that because Utah beat Alabama by 3 more points than Florida did so therefore they are better really doesn't work. If this comparison is used then Oklahoma is better than Utah because they beat TCU by 3 touchdowns more than Utah did. We can argue about it forever, but to no conclusion...

Living in ACC country I can tell you that all weak, poor, pathetic ACC teams love the BCS. Why, because ACC can have pathetic team, play the other pathetic teams in the ACC and when it's all over they get a huge BCS payout each year, remember UVA's lose to Wyoming last year? They still earned a huge BCS payout. What did Wyoming earn. UVA in the MWC wouldn't will a single conference game and still year after year they get the big BCS bucks. Of course, they oppose a playoff system. Of all the conferences the ACC fears a playoff system the most.

Reality Check | 11:01 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
Anyone who thinks that Utah could have hung with either of the teams that played in the Championship is kidding themselves. Let's look at statistics here. Oklahoma averaged almost 55 points per game this season. The Florida defense held them to 14 points. On the flip side, Florida averaged almost 45 points per game this season. The Oklahoma defense held them to 24 points. Do you really honestly believe that Utah could have stuck with either team on either side of the ball? Give me a break.

RE: Reality Check | 11:12 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
I agree. Utah is has had a great season. And on any given night one team can beat another. I don't see Florida's staff getting outcoached by Utah's staff. Urban Meyer would NEVER let that happen! And while Utah has quality athletes, Florida has the best of the best coming there year in and year out! OU, as we learned tonight, is just a few plays away from being right with Florida. SO...

re: logic poll(final) What's your logic? Undefeated! Florida and OU would be undefeated to with Utah's schedule!
Joe Moe | 11:11 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
Anonymous 10:43 is exactly right. You can't say Utah is #1. You can't say Florida is. You just can't know. You can only ask a bunch of people their opinions.

Unless there's a playoff, we just don't know who #1 is.

Unless there's a playoff, it's an election, not a competition.
darnreed | 11:17 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
The scam and greed of the BCS will fail to crown the team that deserves to be No. 1. The Runnin Utes of Utah. The comment that Florida is Far and Above Utah is as ridiculous as anything I have heard. Urban Meyer and Coach Saban of Alabama both know that is far from true.
re: BYU Fan in VA | 11:20 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
Actually, I've heard the Big 10 is the biggest opponent of a playoff. After seeing their bowl results, I understand why!

Always remember, a great teacher will GET BEAT by their best students, That is the teachers goal, if they believe in teaching,
real reality check | 11:22 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
Just remember that the Utes spanked the team that Florida almost lost to to get in the Championship game. What else do they have to prove?
re: Reality Check | 11:24 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
I do! Points mean nothing. Both schools are known for running up the score. Kyle didn't do that this year. He could've ran it up on Alabama, and went for burning out the clock on two possessions, one of which should've been an easy TD. Utah beat four teams that should finish ranked, two of which will be in the top 10! Florida beat only three ranked teams, two of which will finish in the top 10, and lost to Mississippi, at home!
Dan | 11:27 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
There is a nice article about Utah on ESPN football. It really rips the BCS system and promotes Utah as the true champions. Check it out
re: RE: Reality Check | 11:29 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
Bet you didn't see Saban being out coached or Alabama out played either? I did, and I think Utah could've gone all the way. That's why the BCS doesn't want a playoff because they don't want to lose money and presige. Every year, March Madness shows that polls don't get it right at least half of the time, and they have a lot more games to base their picks on that just 13! People like you would've never picked Utah to beat Alabama, or in B-Ball terms, Utah to beat Arizona and then go on and beat North Carolina!
Mike Johnson Fallon NV | 11:36 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
Four of the six BCS computer polls have reported as of 8 January. Utah is #1 in Massey, Sagarin, and Wolfe, and #3 in Colley. Anderson and Billingsley have yet to report.

Quick somebody, take a poll. Name the 5 toughest conferences in college football. . . . . . . Nothing with a Mountain in it, huh? Quit being crybabies, take your lumps till you consistently play with the big boys. Florida #1, Utah. . . . . maybe #5!
Scorboard | 12:01 a.m. Jan. 9, 2009
If Texas is one missed tackle, Florida one missed extra point and USC one blown coverage away from being undefeated....how many plays away is Utah?
ReReality | 12:04 a.m. Jan. 9, 2009
Big boys? Last I checked we dominated one of the "Big Boys". First quarter and you can see the panic in their eyes. You just got hit by a steam train, baby. 21-0. I guess you just flat out underestimated us didn't you? "Reputation" doesn't win football games. BCS & the status quo is BSC.
JohnTheLion | 12:06 a.m. Jan. 9, 2009
Who are the fools that are posting the "reality check" and "overrated" comments? Last time i checked, the "reality" of it is, that utah went 13-0 and if they don't end up number one, the correct term is underrated...

To reality check 11:01- Are you kidding me? You probably have THE worst logic ever. It's not that either defense was truly dominant tonight, the offense's just played, as the article states, a sloppy choppy game. Whereas in Utah's Bowl game, the Utes came out and stifled Alabama's run game that was suppose to rack up yards at will. As for our offense, do you really think that the OU defense could've done anything to stop us? Bama's D was twice the power that OU fielded tonight, and Utah's preciscion would've torn them apart.

But most of all it boils down to this, our schedule is without blemish.

We're the peoples choice.

And hopefully the ap voters' too...

Go UTES! NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!!
Author of "my final poll" | 5:49 a.m. Jan. 9, 2009
I was right in the Coaches poll.

"JohnTheLion" you say Utah was the peoples choice? They were not the Coaches choice or the AP voter choice and in the end that's who matters!

Regardless, congrat's to Utah and all the top ten teams for great seasons.
Reality | 3:21 p.m. Jan. 9, 2009
It's all a beauty pageant anyway. The Utes had a perfect season, but didn't have the fashion. "FBS" College Football National Championships, AP and BC$, are a joke so don't get too offended if you weren't crowned the "National Champs" because it really doesn't mean anything. Until the "National Championship" is determined by a teams record or playoff, it really has no merit.

Congrats on the Mountain West Conference Championship and an undefeated season, Utes.
Kiper | 7:40 p.m. Jan. 9, 2009
and others rank tebow as the number 6 QB if he comes out this year. Why the hype? This was ateam not a tebow win.

Urban knows who the real national champions are and thats the UTES!!!!
Do you never learn? | 1:16 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
How many people said Utah couldn't hang with Bama? Oh just the entire country besides the Wasatch Front.

Oh Florida gets better recruits? According to Barry Switzer Alabama wouldn't have recruited a single player from the U. Wait what happened in that game? Did you all forget already?

Oh yeah, Utah outplayed Alabama for 59 minutes and Alabama did what any good team does and capitalized on Utah's two mistakes of the whole game (but still lost convincingly). Bama however, did nothing offensively or defensively against the Utes. For sixty minutes they looked outclassed by a MWC school.

If Utah played Florida, Oklahoma, USC, Texas, whoever... the same thing would happen.

21-0 first quarter over the team who was number one for a large chunk of the season.

You can't deny the Utes (who were 4-0 against current AP top 25 teams) the championship because of Florida (who was 3-1 against current AP top 25 teams.)

Forget the BCS, it's a joke. After yearly arguments about who the "real" champion is, we all know this to be true.

Utah = #1.

The end.
