Can you imagine a person in one state having a spouse in various other states and the legal nightmare the courts in different jurisdictions would have to deal with when they split up. This aplies to whether the polygamous marriages are ceremonial, commom law or civil.
An absolute legal nightmare would come to our legal system if allowed.
Of course he stands by his religion. He's on the receiving end of power, and sexual conquest of young women who were bred to be his concubines. Poor poor persecuted man. They'd garner a lot more support if women faced equality in their culture. It's not like birth ratios favor a surplus of women. Polygamy is fundamentally sexist. It was fundamentally sexist back when it was inspiration, and it's fundamentally sexist now. The world has grown past that mentality.
Remember recently failed POLYGAMIST TEST CASES:
(2001) Utah: Tom Green (5 days trial mostly invoking religious freedom and Human Rights.
See reference or citation elsewhere)
(200x) Utah: G. Lee Cook (Mostly Invoked Human Rights/Individual Rights mixed or controlled by Religious Freedom.
See reference of citation elsewhere)

FLDS MOMS: HOW TO PROTECT YOUR TEENAGER DAUGHTER WITH TEST CASES?
IF TRUE, MARK WITH AN (X):
( ) WRITTEN PRENUPTIAL CONTRACTS for polygamists (in all states) (as FIRST TEST CASE)
A vast majority of Canadians do not favour polygamy being lawful. The original intent of the law was to not permit polygamy. If the cases fail, we have an option to modernize the laws to reflect what we want. The issue is who is a family in Canada. So far, we are ok with a man and a woman, married, or living together for a time, and 50% are ok with same-sex couples. Only about 2% are ok with polygamy.
I seriously doubt whether Canadians condone multiple spouses (many people think this option is not a good way to raise children nor is it a respectful environment for women and their children). As well, tax/benefits scenarios are all based on one spouse.
So, BC should lay off Polygamists there because Polygamy is legal in Saskatchewan.
1) Polygamy in Ontario..the provincial laws state that for immigration purposes only, a person with plural spousescan be denied entry to Canada unless the Polygamy occured in a FOREIGN country that officials are satisfied allow polygamy. No polygamy can occur in Ontario.
2) Saskatchewan, allows Polygamy, period. Most if not all provincial statutes reference multiple spouses. Estates, will, famikly property etc.
It looks like Saskatchewan is the link in Canada that has allowed multilple polygamous spouses to creep into the system. I can't believe the federal criminal code against polygamy is not used in the cases there. It could be that each province is allowed to selectively choose which criminal code laws they will use in the courts.
