I have always wondered what is the difference of the FLDS practicing polygamy
and inner city "Boyz in the Hood" or a Hollywood celebrity having
multiple mistresses, households, children with more than one woman other than
church sanction. Jessy Jackson was John Edwards were both supporting multiple
families. Why is this not subject to the same scrutiny. If there is child
molestation that should be prosecuted at the full extent of the law. I am not
Mormon, or Christian it just seems that this is not equal protection under the
law (14th amendment to the Constitution I think) and is religious persecution
since the only difference is church sanction. I also do not favor any behavior
other than monogamy it is just my observation that this is not fair since
polygamy is rampant in the secular society not just in the FLDS.

it's unclear to me what these people don't understand. If they would
stop isolating their followers and allow for free will, polygamy wouldn't
be an issue. When the daughters can see their neighbors going out on dates,
falling in love, and choosing a peer as a husband - then they will balk at being
forced to marry some old man chosen for them.
The ONLY reason these girls accept the forced marriages is because that is all they know.
Free the people and let them make their own decisions. It's obvious that the leaders of this cult are afraid that they will lose followers if the people get to see the real world.

The difference, which should be obvious, is that the examples you give are people that have the ability to make choices, and exist in the real world. They can see the choices available, and make informed decisions based on those observations.
The FLDS isolate their followers, and the young girls know of no other way. They truly believe that their "prophet" has had a revelation, or discussion with God, stating that they are to marry whoever is chosen for them.
If God wanted them to marry a certain person, then God would come down and tell them so. Otherwise, they should be allowed free will to decide what is best for them
So if the FLDS moved into regular neighborhoods and practiced polygamy, no one would care. It's the isolation and extreme indoctrination from birth that is the real issue.
It's actually fairly naive to compare multiple baby-daddys or Hefner or Hollywood to the FLDS lifestyle. The FLDS has no free will because they haven't been exposed to any other environment, and have no idea how to make informed decisions. (You must have information to make informed decisions, and they have none.)

The problem with charging them with Polygamy is that they are technically only
married to one person. The fact that they live with multiple partners and
believe that they are spiritually married is not a fact of law. It makes
prosecuting them very difficult unless you prosecute everyone who is married and
fornicates with someone he/she is not married to.
That is why Utah and other states has elected to only prosecute the child molestation aspect. If two (or more) adults are doing it...there is not much you can do. when they bring underage children into spiritual marriages, they should go in with all the power the law can muster.

I am not lds but my ancesteres were mormon pioneers that followed Brigham Young
into the utah valley. I am proud of my heritage, and often wonder why so many
lds come on here and blast polygamy with such scorn. All religious rhetoric
aside, why shouldn't polygamy between consenting adults be leagalized in
the US and Canada where freedom of religion is charrished. If the marriages
were legal, the women could not file for welfare as single mothers as they do
today. This would save us all money. I can only think of a few reasons why
mormons hate polygamy so much.
1. they are tired of there non lds peers making constant polygamy jokes.
2. It tarnishes the squeeky clean images they have for their first two profits.
3. They are afraid that legalized polygamy would temp their church to eventually reinstate their formerly sacred practice.
Please stop treating your neibors with the same persicution the govt showed your ancestors.

It is apparent that religious intolerance is based upon civil viewpoints,i.e.
the government. Whenever a civil or nonreligious entity like a government moves
upon a subject like polygamy, their viewpoint is politically-based. If the
government were theocratic, then it is one religion persecuting another over
polygamy. Islam practices plural marriage, so a Muslim who has more than one
wife is not welcome to live with his wives in North America. A case of a
government overruling an Islamic tenet.

Therefore, no one should take up polygamy unless they are confident that they could sustain a conventional marriage. If someone could beautify a marriage to one spouse, perhaps such a person could beautify a polygamous marriage. Otherwise, remain single.

DIGNITY, SELF-WORTH, knowledge of what INSEST and child sexual assault means

Nope Larry, in Saskatchewan they would be the spouses of all. Section 51 of the Saskatchewan Family Act guarantees multiple spouses are legal.
