Charging the driver that caused the crash, it wasn't
his fault. Black Ice can make people crash at any speeds. I think the UHP and Spanish Fork police are
just trying to get money anymore.
Almost all the cops are useless out there anymore.

All the cops are usless? remember that when you need help at one in the morning an Christmas eve.

The driver that caused the accident was at falt.
He was driving his vehicle above a speed that he could control under the circumstances.

It may have been an accident, however it could have been prevented. Writing a ticket is not always about money. It seldom is. We all have responsibilities that we must live with.

I disagree! If you know the roads have the potential to be icy, SLOW DOWN! especially if yuo are attempting to make a sharp turn where your inertia can carry you into an oncoming car. It really is not that complicated!

Your comment reminds me of all the ridiculous pile-ups we have during winter. I recently watched a video clip of people who were involved in a fog-ice pile-up. Some of the drivers said things like, "I was just driving and SUDDENLY there was a HUGE WALL OF CARS, and I had NOWHERE to go!" Whereas other drivers who were not idiots said, "I was able to stop, but then I was rear-ended by another person." Gee, do you think that if some people could stop, we should not issue citations to the idiots who were trying to drive 70 MPH over ice IN FOG?!? Of course we should.

The comment from Anonymous makes just about zero sense.

If the driver of the SUV is found to have been driving recklessly- far too fast for weather and road conditions- throw the book at him for getting this guy killed.

I had slowed down in icy conditions on Bangerter earlier this week, with a highway patrol vehicle up ahead dealing with an accident. An SUV proceeded to fly by me, almost hitting me and the highway patrol vehicle. It these idiots drive recklessly and cause accidents, injuries, or deaths, they need to be held accountable.

Furthermore, issuing citations is a wonderful thing for responsible drivers as well. Especially when the citation involves a crash. Because of citations, I pay less for my auto insurance than someone who has caused accidents, which is very fair in my eyes. If they don't issue citations to people who "think" that black ice is somehow the unavoidable accident waiting to happen, then the police are indirectly and unfairly raising my insurance.

Here's an idea: Put up a 4 foot median in the bottleneck sections of Hwy 6. That way, I can stop reading about fatal accidents in Spanish Fork Canyon. This will help everyone out, you will see. Why they overlook this problem area year in and year out completely baffles me. I hate that stretch of road.

I grew up with Bryce, and this news was very shocking. He is an amazing person who comes from an awesome family. They of all people do not deserve to go through this. My Prayers are with his family and anyone else who is struggling with this unfortunate, unexpected lost.

RE Dave
Why did you comment on something you know nothing about? This was not Spanish Fork Canyon, it was at the merger of US6 & I15. There is no sharp turn. US 6 is fairly straight as it merges with, and becomes a 3rd lane of the previously 2 lane I-15. I know the parents of both individuals involved and there is no animosity on the one part, and great remorse on the other part. Why make accusations based on second hand information (newspaper) before the officers on the scene make a determination.

Regardless, this is a terrible situation for both families.

I am heartsick about this tragedy. How terribe that wonderful people like Bryce lose their lives in these kinds of accidents! Two 18 year-olds from Mapleton were killed up Provo Canyon just a few days before Christmas. Sadly, the culprit is often young people driving too fast for conditions. My heart also goes out to the young lady who hit the patch of ice, and then knocked Bryce's car into the line of traffic. Forgive the cliche, but "when will they ever learn"?! Please, please, people, slow down on snowy, icy roads!
