USU first gets the top QB in the state and now the top WR. Looks like Anderson is serious. Congrats to Mr. Van Leuween.

Way to go Travisimmo

I watched you catch everything that was thrown at you when you started playing at 8 years old. Not much has changed; you still have the great hands and a knack for making a play when one is needed.

Congrats to you; and to Gary, you got a good one!

Impressive | 12:27 a.m. Jan. 8, 2009
I know many of you Ute and Cougar fans won't admit it (though real Ute fans know what a recruiter Anderson has been for them), but EVEN YOU have to be impressed with the recruits Andersen has been able to land in just over a month at the helm of Aggie football. 4 of the 8 recruits committed so far would not have thought about USU under coach Guy. I am literally in awe right now...is it September yet?!?

Travis, WELCOME!!!

I am not an Aggie fan but I really want to now that Anderson is there. I think that he will represent the university and the state well. I like that he is going after local kids. I don't care who the kids are, but am just glad he is doing it. If he wants fans in seats and pride in his program then he needs to recruit local kids. He should also focus on Idaho, Wyoming, and Nevada. Those are all close states that he could pick up some great kids and their families are close enough that they will be able to attend all of the games.
actually, he is that good. | 8:17 a.m. Jan. 8, 2009
he's the top rated receiver from Utah, was MVP of the Regional Nike Camp (including kids from Colorado, Arizona, Texas) and was the primary target on the top program/team in the state.

this is a GREAT pick up for Utah St.

Gary has put a momentum in the USU football program that it has not had in my memory in his short time with getting top Utah high school kids and good JC players. Good mix. When do season tickets go on sale?!!!! Go Aggies cant wait till Sept 2009!!!!! Keep up the great work Gary and staff.
What was that's QB's name? | 9:13 a.m. Jan. 8, 2009
Didn't some kid play QB for USU, go on a mission, and then defect to the Dark Side? I can't remember his name. He must not have been that important. Too bad for him that he'll get to stand on the sideline at BYU and watch USU build into a winning and contending program with BSU. He could have been part of something great, but USU will be just fine without him.

Trav Congratulations to you we too have known you since you were 8 and have watched you grown into a very talented young player. It does our hearts good to see our local boys get the recognition they deserve. Best of luck and dont pay attention to the haters.

I am a USU Alum, and I hope that they can turn their football woes around. However, if I were a player I would hesitate going there. I hope these kids don't get hurt by playing on a mediocre team.
Good luck!

Who is the top Quaterback, they just lost there starter for this year, to BYU. And I think this kid was to talented to go to a school that couldn't beat Weber, he would've been better at Weber.

When did Parker Webster sign with Utah State?
rugger | 1:06 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
not so fast: byu only had two wr spots, and filled them with out of state players. from what i understand, travis was third on their board.

utah was concerned about being used by another timpview player to leverage byu for an offer. it 's happened enough that that shouldn't surprise anyone.

travis is a great get for usu, and it only happened because of anderson's commitment to recruit in-state players.

re: kg,
USU doesn't need people like you and I hope your decision to go to Utah State has made your career mediocre.

re: unh,
USU's starting QB is Borel and has two more years left? And I think from reading your post that you wouldn't know talent if it bit you in the butt! Travis obviously does have a lot of talent and made a very good choice for himself and the Aggies! I hope he doesn't pay any attention to the people who want to slam him or the Aggies. Time will prove he made a great decision~

USU is on their way up!!!

The top QB is Jeff Manning
To What? | 1:45 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
I've seen them both. Both great athletes, both have good hands. Travis is quicker, more agressive and mobil.

It's interesting how an individuals success and earned recognition can be dissected to the point of no value. Through his discipline and commitment he has earned the recognition of an exciting new program and staff and was offered a full ride ($100K) scholarship.

Why diminish that with senseless criticism?
Anonymous | 4:23 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
Just ask all of the teams that played (and lost) to Timpview how good Travis is.

Sorry folks! He is the REAL DEAL!

Now go back to your video games and kool-aid.

Unbelievable Pickup | 4:21 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
This kid is an absolutely unbelievable pickup for Utah State. We have the top quarterback in the state and now the top receiver. Watch for Utah State to win 5-8 games this year, and that's a serious prediction. Not only that, but they have also picked up some very good JC recruits and that's all after only one month of Gary Anderson's reign. We can expect to keep on seeing stuff like this and just you watch, in a few years USU will be competing with BYU.

And BYU fans, cut the immaturity out. USU finally has a great month for their football program after 5 years of misery and BYU fans are on here saying how USU's top recruit is a dud and will never bring anything to college football. Rediculous. Get a life, it's the Aggies turn.
KG | 4:37 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
Wow, hsfootballfan, sounds like I hit a nerve. All I was saying is that I hope these kids are able to protect themselves. USU football has not been up to par, and have played against superior talent and size for years. I just hope they don't get hurt, that is all.
Thanks for making all sorts of assumptions about me and me and how terrible I am by one comment. Good luck with that.
Chodilicus | 5:02 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
Finally a USU HC has got the right idea. I am a die-hard Cougar fan and follow recruiting very closely. However, I have long thought it would be cool to have a 3rd good football program in the state. But the USU coaches have always been inept when it came to coaching.

There are lots of Utah HS football players out there that simply fall through the cracks because they either don't fit the scheme of the other two in-state programs or perhaps there just aren't enough schollies to go around. USU for whatever reason has always just refused to play the in-state recruiting game, until now.

Last year Cody Raymond was a kid that USU should have been all over. This year they were extremely late on Manning in a year when BYU is not recruiting a QB. Travis Van Leuween is a great WR but BYU simply didn't have any schollies available at WR. Mike Edmunds (Bingham HS) is another WR that has star potential that most likely will not get a scholarship offer from BYU and may end up walking on.

It is nice to see USU snag some of these kids. Aim for respectable, Aggies.
ha ha | 5:26 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
That's kind of funny. Most people in the HS football world call TV BYU Jr. Just wondering, who was the QB that USU picked up. Did they get Alta's Ammon Olsen or something?
No big deal | 5:46 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
According to the article UTAH wasn't even looking at him. USU is welcome to our table scraps.

I watched the timpview vs. mountain crest game and this kid is the real deal. he has a ton of speed and great hands. he's a heck of a recruit for utah state, and it's nice to see anderson doing something to get fans excited about football in logan.
KADDIE | 5:54 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
UTAH STATE IS IN THE RUNNING. I WAS IMPRESSED WHEN THEY "STOLE" GARY ANDERSON. HE IS AWESOME AND WILL DO WONDERS FOR THE AGGIES'S PROGRAM. LOOK OUT CONFERENCE.........NO ONE SHOULD BE SURPRISED THAT ANDERSON IS BRINGING IN THE TALENT............
to No Big Deal | 8:15 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
Both Manning and Van Leeuwen were on the Utah board. They needed to sign two QB's this year, Manning is a missionary recruit. Van Leuween was being considered for special teams. Anderson just brought them with him. Isn't there a BYU blog some where you can go and express your insecurities? These guys are legit. GO AGGIES!!!!!!
Obviously Undereducated | 8:44 p.m. Jan. 8, 2009
Ask Chris Cooley (Washington) and Kevin Curtis (Philadelphia) if catching passes in Logan was bad for their NFL careers.

Welcome Travis | 1:01 p.m. Jan. 9, 2009
Travis,

We are glad to have you on the Aggie Squad. Best of luck to you both on and off the field in your university experience. You will do great. Coach Anderson and players like you will have a big role to fill as you help the Aggies improve dramatically over the next few years.

Agreed | 4:44 p.m. Jan. 9, 2009
I definitely think Utah State is headed in the right direction under a new coach. Its nice to see local guys getting recruited. Travis is a good receiver. Still don't think he is the best utah has this year though. Timpview had linemen who gave a good quarterback time to throw...other kids could have thrown up numbers like he did if they had the same supporting crew. Some props should go to coaches, linemen, and the quarterback for helping him succeed.

don't usu fans get excited about every 4 years after their program flounders and another good coach gets canned? don't crown anderson the king of coaches just yet. he's a great guy but this is aggie football!
football fan | 11:04 p.m. Jan. 10, 2009
I love the cougars, but i'm happy for USU. There's something about the aggies that i've always liked for some reason and i'm glad things are looking up for them. They need to go out and recruit some good linemen. They need to hone the skills of Borel. Use Turbin more because he is a very talented RB. They really do have a lot of talent and now they will have the coaching to match it. Word to the Coach Andersen: Recruit the small towns and JC. Look at some of the talent the Utes have gotten from 2A schools. You may not find 10 blue chip prospects on a 2A team, but you may find 2 or 3 under the radar superstars in the making. Snow College is also the pipeline he should tap into. Somehow USU needs to tap the Polynesian pipeline and get a Texas, Cali, and Florida line set up. Then if he gets that set up and takes care of our local boys and makes the correct choice for his offensive coaching staff then I expect to see a WAC championship in 2010. (2009 they will be bowl elgible but will need 1 more year).
Ute for Aggies | 4:57 p.m. Jan. 11, 2009
I'm happy for the Aggies and the palpable good vibes coming out of Logan. I hope they tear up the wac over the next few years.
