Utah is playing Gonzaga and LSU and BYU is playing high school teams like Western Oregon----WOW tough schedule---Oh wait you got whipped by Wake Forest
I bet Western Oregon would beat Southwest Baptist.
Did you even watch the game? It was close throughout. Also, Gonzaga and LSU are no powerhouse teams to be bragging about. Anyway, BYU will beat the "firewater" out of the Utes in Provo AND in Salt Lake.
How can you say anything about who we are playing? I'll give the utes credit for beating good teams, but c'mon, wait for a season where you didn't lose to southwest baptist and Idaho State! Our loss to Wake looks a lot better than your losses to "high school teams"
Hey Ute Fans,
If your team loses to Southwest Baptist its first game of the season you lose all trash talking rights for the entire season.
NOT!!!
It was obvious throughout the game that BYU wasn't playing with any fire or intensity. It was a great scrimmage and a chance to give some of the bench players some extra playing time.
On to MWC play. Let the real season begin.
i think i'll cross over to utah!
i'am tired of watching these uninspired byu players!
coach rose may have gotten their attention for TWO OR THREE HOURS when he subed like he did!
if byu had any passion they would be 14-0!
Last time I checked both Arizona St and Wake Forest were ranked much higher than Gonzaga and LSU. PLease don't go there Ute fans. Southwest Baptist. Please!
To all BYU Basketball fans: please stop embarrassing the MWC. Your team has not won a Tournament Game in almost 20 years. If you want national respect the formula is simple. Tourny Victories equal respect. 20 years is a long, long, long, long, (did I mention long) time not to have won a single Tourny Game.
The Deseret News should stop publishing stories about BYU basketball until BYU wins at least one Tournament Game. It brings down the reputation of the MWC to not have won a Tournament Game in almost 20 years.
Maybe the solution is for the MWC to make BYU play in the WAC for basketball. It would certainly help the MWC reputation and strength.
Embarrassing the MWC? What's more embarrassing - losing to SW Baptist or losing to one of the top 64 teams in the country in the NCAA tournament? Since SW Baptist can NEVER be in the tournament since they're, what, D-10?, I'll take the tourney losses! Yes, I would love to see us finally break through this year, but Ute fans (and Aggie fans too...I know you're in here somewhere) should drop that argument post-haste! Aggies haven't fared much better in the NCAA tournament! And what have the Utes done since their run to the title game?
hollow advice coming from a fan of a team that isn't even good enough to get to the tournament anymore.
The DN should block all comments from fans whose teams have had losing conference records the last 3 seasons.
"And what have the Utes done since their run to the title game?"
We have been to the Tournament several times and been to the sweet sixteen a couple of times and the final eight.
What has BYU done since 1991? Nothing. No Tourny Wins. Nada.
Unfortunately for BYU, Tournament wins are the only thing that matters as far as garnering National Respect. I really hope BYU wins a Tournament Game this year. It would help our conference strength ranking. Less bashing and more support for our MWC teams.
If I had to pick, I would definitely say that not winning a Tourny Game in almost 20 years would take the cake. It really is a hideous statistic to have hanging around your neck.
BYU played the AP/Coaches number #4 team (Wake) down to the final minute and #20/16 team down to the final second. In my mind that means the Cougs are probably a #20-25 team right now but the voters won't give them quite the same benefit of the doubt I will. The voters have them #44 and 33.
Our two biggest problems that need to be addressed in conference are our inability to hit big shots and free throws in the final minute or two and Cummards unexplainable disappearance against big competition.
Conference prediction - we will split with SDSU, UNLV, and Utah. Losing 3 - or 4 conference games if UNLV sweeps both games. We will make it to the finals of the MWC tourney to lose again to UNLV. But 8 or 9 losses will still be enough to get us into the dance as a low seed - where we will make it 21 years in a row without a win against some long, athletic team. Cummard and Tavernari will end up with around 18.0 per game but Fredette will explode in conference play and average 23 to be named co-mvp with Winky.
I know it's splitting hairs but BYUs last tourney win was in 93, they beat SMU, and in 91 they beat Virginia... so that is 15 years ago, not 20, regardless of when it was, it was a long time ago and is time for BYU to put all this to rest and win a couple tourney games.
Re: Go Utes, heaven forbid you let FACTS get in your way....since the title run in 98, the Utes have lost in the first round 1 time, made it to the round of 32 3 times and the sweet 16 1 time, and no elite 8 appearances like you say...
Not winning an NCAA tourney game is a disappointment. Not making it to the tournament is a failure.
Given the choice, 99% of fans would rather see their team lose a first-round NCAA tournament game, than not get into the Big Dance at all.
Apparently, Utah fans disagree.
They'd rather win a game in the BCI.
BYU Who? We have your number every March.
livin' in past glory. Different year, different players, different coaches. Live in the present or are you still bragging on Bill "The hill" McGill one of your great "scholar-athletes"?
Hey UNLV: Yes you have won all the tournament games played where? O yes, at UNLV. Lets pay the tournament in Provo or even Salt Lake City, have a few homers for refs and see where UNLV ends up in the MWC Tourny.
