No doubt the Utes did great. But, I still am not sure myself they are the best. Winning doesn't make a team the best. You can be the best in the real world at something and lose your job, because of other less desirable characteristics. Therefore the most important part of college sports is sportsmanship, and I can see a lot of votes against the Utes coming in that area. Quite honestly the Utes football team comes across to me as a bunch of "thugs". Had they been a team that was gracious on and off the field, #1 might be within reach. But sorry, the team and their fans are not top notch in my book. Now you can all scream and shout about what I have written and prove my point. You can't blame AP voters for voting against the Utes however and say they are wrong to do so. College football is and should be more than just winning. Plus who's to say the Utes could play Alabama tomorrow and not get crushed. Maybe Alabama just had an unusually bad night. That's why NBA basketball is a better gauge of a teams ability. 7 game finals!

And where's the evidence that Utah's players are "thugs"? Where are the arrests? Where are the convictions? Where are the NCAA sanctions? Where are the school-imposed suspensions? Where are the dismissals from the team? On the contrary, I'd say Utah runs a very clean program. Or is being a "thug" something you can tell by looking at a guy or hearing him talk? Please elaborate on this point - I'm curious to learn more about your definition of a "thug" and your ability to identify one.

A thug is apparently a big, strong, fast player. There has been no evidence of any Utah player being anything but completely upstanding. At the Sugar Bowl, my kids consistently approached the Ute players for autographs, and in every instance, they were professional, courteous, and often spent several minutes chatting with the kids. They were and are model citizens in every instance.

I don't want to be a Ute.

I loved the game and was very impressed with the Utes but I would not spend any money on something that is red.
