Don't they usually do the governors swearing in into office indoors and NOT
outdoors in the bitter cold? I simply wondering because this inauguration looked
like the USA presidents. I was just wondering because President Monson and some
of the older gents and ladies looked mighty cold standing out there. I think
that the older ones health should always be taken into consideration.

Give me a break on saving money so they did it outdoors!!! Just tell me what 8
steps out of the Capitol door has to do with saving money? The state spends more
money on the worthless places like this the Place Monument Park known as the
modern day Heritage Park...LOL! Tax payers need to protest this silly malarkey.
The Heritage park buildings have no heritage there. Those buildings were not
their in the 1800's. Geeeeez! Beside it should be called the most BORING
park in the state.

Way to go jonny you're the best democratic gov we've had in a while.
Tax and spend all you want. Knowing your dad and watching you I can tell that
the nut can fall very far from the tree. In fact, please make sure the
legislature balances the budget on the backs of our public school students and
teachers.

Um, that is funny you should mention- This Is The Place Heritage Park.
Isn't one of the buildings there in the village, and a so called pioneer
house, called the HUNTSMAN HOUSE? That would make sense now wouldn't it?

People are so happy (angry) about this event that they are slurring and
misspelling words right left on here. It Kind of all reminds me of a mad dog
foaming at the mouth kind of happiness.

What do you mean the comments are monitored. If you monitor the ones that are
here they all fall in the category of abusive; offensive; misrepresentative and
totally off-topic. I think there are more decent citizens out there than what
you have let go on here.

Will somebody please tell me what are wonderful governor has really done for
this state in the last four years? And what the heck is going to do the next
four years beside making false promises? Like for example of lowering sales
tax,what good does this do when all our utility companies raise rates year after
year we gain nothing,it happens all the time.What about our pollution in this
valley,hey governor huntsman in case you havent noticed its getting worse since
you been in office and we do not have 10-15 years to fix it so why dont you do
something besides sitting in your mansion, make yourself visible and do
something for this state. I suggest that people go to web site and comment on
your lack of leadership for this state, I doubt you will respond you havent in
the past. No kidding thanks for all your wonderful work NOT!!

Try living in a state where unemployment is higher than the national average,
jobs are moving out instead of in, and the elected officials are caught in
scandal after scandal. Then you might appreciate the leadership available in
your state, including being grateful for a culture of hard work instead of using
it to bash a specific religion. Why does anybody spend their energy griping
about the innauguration taking place outside--who flippin' cares? Again,
try living in a state where the oath is followed by glamorous parties and balls
while the hard workers of the state are standing in the cold. COME WHAT MAY AND
LOVE IT!!

To be entirely honest, I don't slander Governor Huntsman. I simultaneously
do see elements that must exist in his life where he has been given a lot of
free hand outs. Does that mean he's a spoiled person? absolutely not. He
must be a loving father and husband. Getting into those higher numbers though,
anyone with that kind of money resides in a different reality than 'the
rest' of society. It's very easy to exist within an aristocracy and
not even know it. Will the things he do help me personally? He doesn't
even know who I am. If things he has done in the past have helped me somehow, I
frankly haven't been able to accredit any of them to him - other than the
fact that he's obviously a morally stable individual - like myself. I
don't think I'd personally be a politician in a million years - I
think they're all a little wacko, and tainted with dis-honest lying - heavy
spending, and little understanding of what work really means.

They did the Govenor of Idaho's inauguration outside also. So, I think
it's just what they do.

How much money was saved by doing the inauguration on the steps of the capitol
instead of having it done indoors out of the cold? Can someone please answer
this? Some of those very old folks looked pretty miserable standing around in
the cold.

More than one news source stated that at least $150,000 was saved on lighting
alone by having it outside.

I mean really, is anyone out there a little grateful and appreciative of our
beautiful state and all of the comforts of life we enjoy? All I hear are a
bunch of whiners and complainers. . . .cowboy up and find something productive
to do. . . maybe volunteer somewhere or run for office yourself!

Holding the inauguration on the steps of the capitol does save money. Consider
the rental for use of risers, chairs for guests, podium and so on. Then
consider the man hours/cost to set it all up. Maybe they already have some of
this stuff on hand they could use, but there are still other cost advantages to
an "informal" ceremony over a more formal one.

Your intolerance is showing. In case you haven't noticed Utah is
predominately mormon. It is common sense to me that someone from that religion
would give the benediction.

Truly the cold we experienced yesterday is unusual, and I'm sorry it came on Inauguration Day.
It and all the snow we got later reminded me of how grateful I am for coats, a heated home, a snow blower.... Most of us are so blessed and, as the Governor suggested, this gives us wonderful opportunity to reach out & help someone else! Let's do that rather than rail on each other!
I'm always sorry that Inauguration Days (presidential or not) aren't more like national holidays -- I think we and our children need to be reminded of patriotic principles more often.
Even if it's for no other reason than to know what promises we need to hold our elected officials to!

Yeah, I suppose there was still the cost for security and whatnot? I was also
wondering what they saved by freezing to death in the cold. It seems the lives
of the old people around there were not considered. Even the young David
Archuleta looked quite cold. I was more worried though about the Prophet
President Monson. He looked too cold for comfort.
Seems indoors would be better than trying to make it look like the president of the United States inauguration. I'm not trying to sound mean, but this really bothers me just a little.

Get a grip. Who really cares where it was held. If the state saved or lost
money by holding it outside is insignificant compared to the state budget and
the tough choices the legislature and Governor will have to make this year.
Let's see how they do. I like the Governor's way of thinking much
better than the Legislatures that is for sure.

It's nice to see the rabbi and president Monson together. Doesn't
president Monson have some Jewish ancestors? At least some of his family names
are Jewish. What a great photo, I really like it and i believe it was the best
part of the whole inauguration. oh yeah, that includes David Archuleta.

Johnny Silver Spoon doesn't have to make any tough decisions about the
budget. The house of representatives control how the money in the state is spent
all Johnny tries to do is give them suggestion and pout if he doesn't get
his way. I wish he would have changed parties and come out of the closet about
really being a democrat. Then Obama would have selected him to a job in
Washington and we would be able to get a new governer.

It seems to me the only ones whining on here are the ones who are pompous and
complaining about those who are speaking the truth. The inauguration was done
for spot light attention for those who think so highly of themselves. They could
truly careless about the rest of us. I hate all this phony pretending

If you think he has done anything for this state except live in his cozy mansion while more people in this state are homeless and more children are going without food, then you better get off your couch for awhile,walk the streets of Salt Lake City and really see whats going on out there. Huntsman is practically the only guy in the whole state of Utah who wanted to be
governor. I didn't vote for him, but who can complain about him? No body
else ran. He's what you get. Quit complaining.

These comments are hilarious. However, I'm for indoors where it's nice
and warm. If it saved on the lighting of the inside of the Capitol to have it
outdoors than it looks like the governor needs to find somewhere else to cut
back on money instead of showing off.

Not being a Utahan, I know little of your politics. I do know that your Utah
Utes are very impressive and that David Archuleta is now and will be for years
to come, your most valuable State attraction. What a voice! What a kid!!!

I would bet the ones complaining are not out trying to change anything, and
probably don't vote either, could be wrong, what kind of service to you
give? What are you doing to make a difference I've not ever known of
anything being done by a complainer. It takes a lot of energy to find fault. I
personally like Gov. Huntsman, I think we are very lucky to have a Governor with
integrity. I have no doubt he tries to make sound decisions for this State. And
as far as the President of the Mormon Church giving the prayer, you can darn
well bet that if you were in Rome a Catholic would give the prayer. This State
was settled by Mormons, Hello!!!
I would be just as thrilled if the Catholic Priest prayed, oh yea I think that has happened also, in Utah Yes even in Utah. I am a Mormon and I would be thrilled at anytime to have a Baptist, Protestant, Seventh Day Adventist, Catholics, etc. give a prayer at any Utah State Function. Dave... You didn't watch, or you didn't pay attention. Our local Rabbi
offered the invocation. Gov. Huntsman is a motorcycle riden', rock band
drummer who won the office, again, by a land slide. I say if you aren't a
Utahn it isn't your business and if you are you will notice there are
freeways leaving the SL valley in all three directions. You are always welcome
to "get out of Dodge." Congratulations to David, you did it again.
Glad to you home at least for the moment. Hurry back with your band. UTAH
ROCKS!

I felt good about the message the governor was sending about the current state
of the state (and the nation) by holding the ceremony outside in the cold, but:
It was VERY cold and was he considering Preident Monson's age or the
expectations of the students from Richfield.
This is not one of the wealthier areas of the state, and the cost of their trip plus the excitement of seeing the newly restored Capitol (from the inside) seemed to be a slap in the face. At least I didn't hear him inviting them inside after, as he did the dignitaries. The bright side they did get a close up of David Archeleta.
