Go UTES!!!
Some respect, and some consideration. Not freely given, but even the stingiest die hard football purest has to be scratching their heads and say.. you know, at which point can we overlook all they have accomplished?

I see the NY Times is providing another example of bad reporting. The tone of this article makes it sound like it was a really, really close game, with Utah even digging out of the "hole" and how one misstep cost Alabama the game. What a bunch of phooey.

Jared - Utah Fan

After watching the Utes obliterate the "mighty Tide" in every phase of the game - all I can say is, 'bama is lucky Utah GAVE them 2 touchdowns or the whuppin' would have been a lot worse.

SEC, PAC-10, Big-10, bring 'em on! Utah took on a team from each of those vaunted BCS conferences this year - AND WON! We all know the ACC has nothing to offer (Utes clobbered Pittsburgh in '04), the big East with #16 Cincinnati (who?) was pretty formidable. That leaves the big 12 - didn't Utah destroy Texas A&M in '04?

College football had better get a better system, because everybody knows the real champion this year is the University of Utah - but they won't get the crown.

Congrats Utes! Great Game! You deserve to be No. 1

Hey Mr. Limbaugh! Keep your political comments out of the sports!

Bama certainly wasn't adequate competition for the Utes, but don't be fooled, Utah wouldn't stand a chance against the likes of Florida. Utah certainly was impressive, but national champs? Come on. Everyone who loves college football knows that the BCS should be immediately done away with. There are way too many flaws that leave out good teams, and I can think of other good teams left out over the past few years. Boise State for instance. Sadly enough, the BCS will probably never be done away with, being that "they" say a playoff would detract from the established bowl games. I see that it would do nothing but complement the current bowl games. I disagree with the Utes being number 1, however we do agree that the flawed BCS has to go.

the utes were awsome they have my praise i am from alabama , and love to see the mighty tide go down they have the rudest fans in college football.so thank u to the utah utes for putting them in there place, i feel they wereover rated any way ,in my book the utes are #1

Cougar Blue

Why not have Utah #1? They put a whuppin' on Alabama that would make even Florida green with envy. Actually, TCU was just as good as Utah and should finish high in the ratings, not to mention Boise State.

"Terrence Cody, a 6-5, 365-pound nose tackle, was buried at the point of attack as Utah running back Matt Asiata bashed into the end zone."

The Utes showed it's better to be fast and strong than just ... BIG.

Utah's speed was the difference in the game. Their defensive front line was outweighed by an average of more than 45 lbs. But the Utes still stuffed Alabama's vaunted running game and allowed them only 31 yards.

Nervous nellies

If they played again, who would win?

Utes by at least 10. They would be quicker, better coached, focused, and ready. Bama would not and was not.

Hats off to the coaching staff. And yes the coach deserved his pay raise.

PS -- time for the state leg. to pass a referendum announcing to the world that the Utes are number in the nation. After all, who beat them?

Western Belle in South

What a game. You could have heard the yelling clear to Mountain West. It is about time Utah got the recognition. They deserve it in spades this time. When the Times prints something favorable, you know you HAVE MADE IT.

BYU fan

Utes should be no. 1 I hate to admit it, but by game's end I was on the ban dwago. Great job, utes!

Granny

The Utes need to do it year after year and not just occasionally, same with BYU. Stay in the top 10 every year, then you will deserve the respect and the championships. BYU had the national championship once, decades ago.

Gretzky

Saban in typical SEC fashion, like Urban Legend, is all about himself and NOT his players. very sad. Whittingham gave the SEC a lesson from the MWC on how coaches should treat their players in public. outstanding Utes! great job. well done.

RE: Granny

Are you serious....?

Let's see, the Utes have now WON there last eight bowl games and have two undefeated seasons in four years! Why does everyone say they (Utah, BYU and any other non-BCS school) have to do it year in and year out, but Florida, LSU, Oklahoma, etc. don't. Another school that does it year in and year out is Boise State and they still struggle to be ranked in the top 10. Not to mention, by saying two or three teams form the same conference need to do it year in and year out you are automatically making it impossible for them ALL to do it year in and year out, for some one in conference has to lose. Let face it, anytime a human opinion is used for the outcome (i.e. national champion) it is going to be very, very biased. It is just human nature and until we find another way of ranking, we will always have this problem. Even if Utah does it year in and year out.

to Granny:

Teams don't have to win year after year for consideration: this is precisely what's wrong with the system, that teams are judged on what happened 20 years ago. We must put an end to this privileged and criminal activity in the NCAA.

Nice work from Tide fan

First Gratz to the Utes on a great season! Let's not get carried away though. That was not the AL team from the regular season. The last time the Tide played without Andre Smith they only had 140 rushing yards against Tulane. There were only 2 starters on the "O" line. The offensive was UA staple. Not to say UA would have won, but I'm sure the score would have been closer. So be careful about blasting other teams...ie FL. Be happy with what you have done and the BCS will come around. You'll see.

John T

Can you imagine if Utah's quarterback and top receiver were injured and Alabama's Andre Smith would have played? Hats off to Utah; you have my vote for #1. But don't for a minute deceive yourself and think that you beat the OL that Bama had during the regular conference schedule. That's insanity. But, Utah won; congratulations. I hope you get voted #1 in the AP.

Christian

I attended the game in New Orleans and want to extend congrats to Utah and its fans for a dominating game. After the game I did the same to every Utah fan I saw.You all have alot to be proud of this year and have mine and the Crimson Tides vote for #1.....Sorry for all the bad comments from the classless Bama fans,we are not all like that....
