Does this have anything to do with the all the illegals who are driving around without insurance, or is it just coincidence?
Re CW | 5:52 p.m. Dec. 31, 2008
There are plenty of people out there without insurance, and they are not all illegal minorities.

Maybe for a new year's resolution you can try to be nicer to people not born in this country? Just a thought.

I got hit by an uninsured person: a lifelong legal citizen of this country who happened to be a dirtbag that didn't care about others and spent her life extracting welfare from those of us who work hard to pay for her lifestyle. She wasn't an illegal immigrant. Most illegal immigrants I know are just the opposite - very hard working individuals and families.

It's interesting that the people who listen to hate-mongering conservative talk radio aren't at all interested in finding a good work permit program to help people come to this country legally. They'd rather spend their time building walls.

Leave it to the scumbag politicians to put a NEW tax on a cleaner burning fuel like natural gas.

It would help a lot more if there were better methods of enforcing vehicle insurance on drivers and owners. The only time vehicle insurance is verified is after the fact, after an accident occurs. Before a vehicle can be licensed the owners should provide proof of insurance to the DMV and if an insurance expires on a licensed vehicle the car should be impounded within a week. It is unfair to those that obey the laws and carry insurance and then to be involved in an accident with an uninsured vehicle. Any vehicle without insurance and involved in an accident should be immediately impounded, the driver and owner arrested and car sold with any money recovered given to the insured driver or property owner of property damaged. Insurance companies should not receive any of the recovered money. Whether the uninsured vehicle caused an accident or not, an impound and arrest and fine should be mandatory. We cannot have 2 sets of rules on vehicle insurance, one for insured and none for uninsured. Driving an uninsured vehcilc should not be a civil law, it should be a criminal law that the state should enforce on everyone. It is a state law.

I lived my first 40 years in Central California...you know: where the illegals pick the crops the Okies now eat.
I have been in 3 wrecks with illegals-all THEIR fault.
Not one of the three had insurance.
I had PL&PD on my Ford Pickup when I was 16.
An illegal, driving a farm tractor while drinking many beers, pulled out of an orchard directly into my lane.
First experience with an uninsured driver.
In 1972, I was driving in Visalia, CA, one evening when an oncoming car pulled into the left turn lane and DROVE RIGHT OUT IN FRONT OF ME!
Another DRUNK, UNinsured illegal.
In 1998, my daughter was driving my Explorer and was rearended VERY hard by a DRUNK ILLEGAL.
Caused her permanent physical injuries.
Once again: the token saint of Californiathe DRUNK ILLEGAL.
In 2001, while visiting there , I had ANOTHER illegal change lanes without signals or any hint, running me off the road (he was in left lane and decided to get some gas at the corner)...cut right into me and drove BOTH of us off the shoulder and into the gas pump. Can you say UNINSURED??
Also, can you say: NO MORE

Typical government...it does not matter whether city, county, state, or federal...they feel an obligation each year to ADD MORE CONTROLS and to EXTRACT MORE MONEY...the simple citizen cannot win...wouldn't it be grand if el3ected officials would spend their time and energy on getting rid of antiquated controls (laws?) and reducing the cost of government and the controls...Sorry, but I have little confidence in any of our elected "REPRESENTATIVES" be they Republican, Democrat, or independent...keeping their "jobs" is what matters most to a large percentage of them...it is evident year after year, scandal after scandal (known and unknown)...GREAT WAY TO START THE YEAR, EH?

Please tell me what assine laws were taken off the books.
Yes, I to have been involved in a car accident with an illegal, uninsured driver. My insurance went up, didn't get a red cent from this non english speaking jerk, who also drove away in his auto.
We need to verify insurance every time we have our car emission or safety check.

So you jump from CW's comment about illegals driving around to attacking talk radio? Classic, I love that game plan-make everyone think that anyone who leans republican is a mini-Rush Limbaugh and we can shame republicans into claiming Independent and dupe them into voting with Democrats. That connection was ridiculous. First off, all people who don't care enough about others or themselves to get insurance are scumballs. Second, just because someone thinks that there should be a way to keep non-citizens from illegally entering the US doesn't mean that they are a hate-monger..Please! Name calling, and scare tactics may work in a college classroom, but never in the real world. The fact that someone wants non-citizens to immigrate legally means that they are sick of the millions here who do not pay income taxes, receive welfare payments, and bankrupt medical facilities by not paying. Anybody from any country is welcome in the US if they wait their turn and pay their dues by diligently applying and interviewing at the US Embassy in their respective country.

I think it is interesting that people would call for MORE government intervention with a problem that is easily solved without adding layers to an already burgeoning bureaucracy of inefficiency and waste. First, protect yourself with uninsured motorist coverage. Second, we need to actually enforce the existing law.

Any new regulations you put in place to try and reduce the number of uninsured drivers will only serve to make law abiding citizens lives more difficult. Someone who is not insured, and thus not obeying the law, will simply ignore the new rules or find a way to cheat the system as they do now.

I am tired of any one who does not belong in this country screwing it up for the rest of us, I am tired of big business that moves to third world countries to pay slave labor prices for workers then the free trade act that lets them ship it here for usa to buy.....well america stop buying from companies that move to other countries stop buying from lazy-boy and stop dealing with any one who is lowering the standard of living for all americans. Start holding your local elected officials responmsible for their actions or inactions in protecting us and our rights. the money they spend is ours watch every penny and demand accountability.

Re: Auto Insurance
Requiring proof of insurance to register a vehicle and impounding a vehicle when insurance expires would not require an overly complex database and tow truck drivers would be happy to impound vehicles. The whole criminal thing goes a little far.

Re:Bilbo
When you hit another vehicle with the front of your car, it IS your fault!

Re:sosueme534
If you are not Native American - GO HOME! The rest of you who hate your foreign born neighbors need to realize that our gingo ancestors came to Utah illegally (it was part of Mexico) and stole it at the point of a gun. They then signed a treaty allowing Mexicans to come here anytime they wanted. We need immigration reform, not all of the hate.
