I can understand how newly-minted Presidents and Presidents-elect chafe at the overweening presence of the media in their daily activities. But I am not prepared to offer them much sympathy when they complain; particularly when, as in Barack Obamas case, they have benefited so mightily from favorable-yea, fawning-media coverage and were propelled to the Presidency itself as a consequence of that fawning coverage. Perhaps, like the gods, the media first makes proud those whom it would destroy but I dont think that Barack Obama is complaining about media coverage because he fears that reverse karma is on its way. Rather, he is complaining because while he wants to be at the apex of the political pyramid, he does not want to put up with the inconveniences that fame brings to those who possess vast political power. So forgive me if I fail to shed a tear for the President-select's loss of privacy.

I voted for McCain and Palin, not a color on ones skin only.

You misinformed citizens will find soon that Obama is not President material basically because he has no experience just a lot of gab, smiles shallow promises. He certainly proved his working out was much more important than going to visit the wounded. Open your eyes, whether he be black, brown, white, yellow, pink or green he is not presidential material. You have been fooled and it won't be long before you will realize it and it will be too late and you will have no one else to blame but your naive belief just because he is black he'll be a great President. Why would you vote for someone to be our Commander in Chief that doesn't even care about our troops who are sacrificing their lifes and limbs for your peace and safety? Hm? His arrogance is easy to see and hear and all I can say is "our country is going to be in the depths of poverty and will continue as long as the dishonest, unfaithful and arrogant democrats have the house. Our poor Grandkids and great-grandkids. They don't have a chance.

My vote didn't count

I voted for McCain cause he's old.

GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Barack Obama is the President of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and will be for the next four years.
He may not be your choice but he was the choice of the majority of the voters of this great country.
Give him a chance to prove himself and while you are at it give yourself a chance to understand that the sun does not rise and set on your opinion alone, please quit beating a dead horse the election is over, move on.
Besides this article was not about Obama but the top news storys of 2008. I believe the editors got it right these were the top storys of the year and this is a worthy article.

Re: 1:50 pm - Obamacon & his family are vacationing in Hawaii, far from the wintry snows of Chicago and far from almost every other American politician. There's a metaphor here for how I think Obama is going to conduct himself as president. He's going to try to keep his distance from other politicians, including his fellow Democrats. I see him trying to remain aloof from his party, much as Dwight Eisenhower did five decades ago. Obama didn't do a whole lot of campaigning for his fellow Democrats this year after he clinched the party's nomination in early June. And remember how Obama first came to our attention. Yes, it was a speech at a Democrat National Convention, but it was a speech that dwelled on what we as Americans have in common, not on how Democrats are better than Republicans. When you look at the state-by-state results, you find evidence that Obama profited from a large turnout by young blacks, many of whom had never voted before and some of whom may not vote again, at least when, as in 2009 and 2010, Obama is not on the ballot. (the sun does not rise and set on you)
