"more power to them"
There is enough heat in the earth, now and being generated by radioactive decay, to supply ALL the energy needs of all mankind for as long as the sun shines,
The one problem is not enough of it may be near the surface where we can get at it to make use of it, but where it does exist we should.)
Where is Robert Redford and his gang? Geothermal drilling is every bit as intrusive, polluting, and unsightly as drilling for oil. Based on their reasons for opposing the oil drilling leases in Utah, they should also oppose the geothermal drilling.
That said... Having researched it quite a bit, I'm all for developing geothermal power plants. But everyone needs to realize how difficult it is to find a sizable resource like (hopefully) this company has found. Just because millions of acres have been leased does not mean a proportionally large number of successes will come.
I'm not sure about Robert Redford but he'd be crazy to think geothermal is anywhere near as invasive as oil drilling. If for no other reason, the water extracted for geo power is re-injected back into the earth. Geo power is truly the cleanest and most efficient energy source on earth. Utahans need to seize the opportunities we have because we are sitting on a hot-bed of geo-sources.
