I just love these stories about the weather. It's winter. It's supposed to snow. Why do people in the media want to get us all worked up over it? So what? We have to slow down. It will melt in the spring.
Reader | 9:37 a.m. Dec. 22, 2008
So forecasts of snow should not be reported? Tell you what, observer-- you don't attention to such stories and the rest of us will pay heed to them and prepare accordingly. Geez.

Snow is already falling in Layton (not starting at 11, as reported by Mr. Winslow), and has already dumped 3 inches since I made breakfast an hour ago.

Now where is that snow shovel. Grrr.

Snow Doesn't Exist. It's all an old wives tale, or as we call it, a dingodoozer.
Hi | 10:19 a.m. Dec. 22, 2008
UDOT's website says Provo Canyon needs 4x4 or chains, Sardine Canyon between Logan and Brigham is closed and Westbound traffic out of Salt Lake along 1-80 requires 4x4 or chains.

If you don't have to go out, DON'T!

Happy Driving!

It must be global warming. Anytime, these days, the weather is severe it is often blamed on global warming. ;)
Snow Lover | 11:06 a.m. Dec. 22, 2008
Ya I love global warming. If this winter is anything like last year with the global warming I will be set to snowmobile into April and May again!
Sick of waiting!!!!!!!!! | 11:17 a.m. Dec. 22, 2008
Why isn't global warming here yet? I'm sick of cleaning snow off my car and driving to work in it!
Where is it? Is this a conspiracy? Who is holding it back? Is it hiding in Al Gore's house? I want warmer temps NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here's my bumper sticker idea:

Warm up Utah and nobody gets hurt! Like it?

Only if you live next to Berkley, USC, or Stanford do you continue to live the myth of Global Warming. Once the liberals have convinced the masses they'll sit back laugh at the Global Stupidity all the way to the bank. Global Warming? Just ask the residents of Chicago, Omaha or Detroit this Christmas. Keep them snow shovels ready through April!!! And That's The Bottom Line.
Old Timer | 11:53 a.m. Dec. 22, 2008
I had to walk to school as a kid with snow up to my knees(I was a lot shorter then), but I still love the snow and hate a drought. We don't seem to get the snow that we used to like 48 52 and the early 80s. When the Great Salt Lake is being pumped again, we will have enough snow.

Iron Cold Steve Michael Savage in a Berkeley grad. I understand the jealousy. Utah has no university like Berkeley that is compared to Harvard, Yale and MIT.

Unlike BYU, archaeology done by Cal is taken seriously.

Berkeley was started by republicans in California. Amazingly, once there were educated republican who valued education. I know this seems unbelievable today in Utah.

My lemon tree if full of ripe lemons. I picked my last tomato last month. The world isn't Utah. This fall, we had the warmest fall I can remember.

Snow in Utah isn't the stand for measuring climate change. You can tell university educated dialog on climate. If you studied science in a real university, you know, what you believe has nothing to do with what is true. A great researcher tries to filter his bias out of his results.

Peer review ended global cooling and cold fusion. Science works.

Reading the stupid bias comments made from Utahans, its more than snow that makes me feel blessed for leaving Utah. I can't think independently here.

My view of climate change, is I don't know. I love the debate and the science getting an answer.

As is common, people here the phrase, "global warming" and think that 'warming' is the total scope of the phenomenon. In fact, "global warming", in theory (not sure what i think, but Im not so ignorant to dismiss it so readily) would cause severe weather patterns such as the winter of 07 08 and possibly looking like 06 - 07. If you disagree with something, at least know what you are disagreeing with and formulate logical, fact based arguments. I know ultra conservatives have a tough time with that.

I actually like Iron Cold Steve's post, because it shows how ignorant he is. It's called "global warming," meaning the whole world, and he says to ask Chicago, Omaha, or Detroit. Maybe he still thinks the world is flat, also.

Ha ha ha..Ron Paul '12. That is classic! Keep wishing!

We know on a micro level man changes climate. Urbanization creates warmer temperatures. Plowed earth absorbs more heat than vegetated earth. Cutting down rain forest drops the relative humidity and less water reaches the ground because leave or needles collect condensation. On the other side irrigation increased humidity. The more humid the air, the more energy the air retains. The snow pack in the San Jaun Mountains melts earlier. Human activity to the West, in Utah increased the particle levels moving over these mountains. The dirt settles on the snow pack making the snow pack less reflective.

People change climate.

It's part of the vast liberal conspircy to use "climate change."

Heat is a measurement of kinetic energy. The high the heat, the more water air can hold. You have energy and phase transitions. The energy the air contains can change dramatically my changing water from vapor to liquid or from liquid to a sold.

What climate is concerned with is comparative amounts of energy present in the total system. If earth were warming. California should get more snow. Southern Utah may get less rain. You have the orographic effect.

Why not learn, This is really interesting stuff.
Thank you | 1:54 p.m. Dec. 22, 2008
For those of you who understand that 'Global Warming' is more than just the warming part. It also calls for shorter, WETTER winters.

I don't know why some people consider 'Global Warming' to be some kind of separate religion. It's not a religion, it's a fact.

I had something written to you, but erased it.

Merry Christmas. Hope you are really happy and can make some nice lemonade from your own tree.

Cheers!

Re: Anonymous 1 | 3:33 p.m. Dec. 22, 2008
You seem pretty down on Utah and its schools. (Hint: Maybe you should take a couple of writing and grammar classes before you take the smarter-than-thou position.) Someone explain why so many comments always turn to Utah bashing, regardless of the topic of the article? I've lived and gone to school in many different parts of the country and world, and I like Utah and its schools just fine. Nowhere is perfect; if there's something you don't like, do something about it other than run at the keyboard.
hahaha | 4:14 p.m. Dec. 22, 2008
haha Ron Paul! start the revolution and bring us some warmer skies!ha
utah rose | 4:28 p.m. Dec. 22, 2008
For your information Berkeley, Utah had a very warm fall also with tomatoes into November.

That doesn't prove a thing.

And yes, people do change climate. Look at what our cars did in getting rid of the dinosaurs, and also in Alaska. There are fossils to prove that they once had a warm climate. Guess we can blame all of those gas emissions on giving Alaska a cold climate.

And then we were also on Mars. They're also having a global warming on that climate, but guess you would either blame it on Bush or the space debris.

Liberals always have an excuse. I would rather live in Utah, weird as it is, then over in your area. San Francisco should just secede and become another country.

Stop driving.. all the exhaust fumes will kill the ozone and create warmer climates!
Truth-Sayer | 6:25 p.m. Dec. 22, 2008
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas folks! Global warming is a fact of life in historical trends, so is global cooling---don't worry, be happy!

But keep politics out of natural cycles!
Myopic Utahns | 7:31 p.m. Dec. 22, 2008
Yes it's true we have had very wet winters the past two years. But I remember when I was a kid every year was like this. Then we had a lot of years where we had little. Rather than finger point, let's just be glad we have the moisture, and be glad we are safe.

There are parts of the global warming notion that are true, and parts that are not. That doesn't make the whole thing bad.
Al Gore | 1:30 a.m. Dec. 23, 2008
Man made global warming is the classic bait and switch scam of the new era! The bait is green house gasses and man made warming and the switch is money from your pocket switched to someone else's pocket! Al Gore is the biggest scam artist of this century! Don't believe it, "save the planet" by sending your money into one or more of thousands of organizations who produce nothing but will definately take your money. A fool and his money are soon parted! No crisis= no money! No crisis? No problem-invent one!
Lorz B. | 6:57 a.m. Dec. 23, 2008
Just to be clear Global Warming is NOT a fact! It is a theory based on a computer model. The only place that it is a fact is amongst the media and the liberals. There are just as many scientists who dispute global warming as there are who push it. The bottom line is that the global warming scare is all about money. It starts with those coveted research dollars and continues with manufactured stupidity like "carbon credits". Follow the money. Check your facts from more than one source. The earth has been cooling for the past ten years. Global warming is about environmentalist extremists holding the world hostage economically. If you all want to go back to driving a horse and buggy and living in a log home, go ahead. But leave the rest of us alone. I recycle, I don't litter and I'm careful about how I manage my resources. And I want clean water and air as much as the rest of you. But I don't want to go back to living in the dark ages. Sorry.
thoughts | 7:34 a.m. Dec. 23, 2008
The posts are entertaining. As the son of a scienntist, who actually has studied global warming, let me tell you what he told me. It is true that natural cooling/warming cycles exist. However, he said that recent trends show indisputable proof that humans have furthered warming and that our current warming accelerations are unprecedented. He is an extreme conservative, would vote for Bush again if he could. I'm not a scientist, but I believe him. By the way, he's employed by the Government and works at Los Alamos National Laboratories, so there is no financial incentive for him to think one way or the other.
Already sick of the white stuff | 7:43 a.m. Dec. 23, 2008
Lived here all my 33 years of my life GLAD to be leaving Utah and this white stuff NO MORE SNOW YES!!!! and no more driving with utahs who drive like they are on METH!!!!
Chris | 8:04 a.m. Dec. 23, 2008
Here is NH we had over two FEET of snow in two days, five days after we had a devastating ice storm. We lived in Utah for three years (and loved it), and it snowed every winter. This story seems a little sensationalized to me. It is winter, prepare for snow.

I believe, I believe, I believe, oh, my aching back is so sore from shoveling all this global warming.
Global Warming is a scam | 1:28 p.m. Dec. 23, 2008
That is the true fact

"...By the way, he's employed by the Government and works at Los Alamos National Laboratories, so there is no financial incentive for him to think one way or the other."

ROFL...oh boy...that is, quite possibly, the funniest comment I have ever read on this message board.

No financial incentive and he works for the government...that's a good one. Who do you think pays his salary? Do you honestly think that if he disagreed with the scam that is Global Warming that he would still have a job?
Cali Coug | 3:26 p.m. Dec. 23, 2008
Leaving Cali for UT on 1/6/08 to to a little snowboarding...let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Re: thoughts | 8:08 p.m. Dec. 23, 2008
Please ask your father why we are having record snow and record cold all over America if there is global warming? I am sure he has an answer, like "global warming is responsible for our record cold temps". Gee, now that is REAL "science"!
Record Cold Temps | 10:24 p.m. Dec. 23, 2008
What is GLOBAL WARMING? A trend of temperatures across the GLOBE to be warmer than usual, this can be demonstrated by interesting phenomenon such as ice cap melting, greater that normal storms across the world and so forth. Now this is debatable knowing that temps have not been recorded nor ice caps kept track of except for the last 50 - 60 years. But the TREND is towards warmer temperatures. I find it comical that posts on an article are dominated by Global warming. Merry Christmas.
