Poor Rich Athletes

Real pity about that scheduling mishap. My heart really goes out to them. All of that guaranteed money probably eases the pain, though...

What's the Big Deal

These guys make millions of dollars and they're still complaining. Yah, It would have been nice to get one extra day off for Christmas, but this is the NBA. Milwaukee needs the game to be played on tuesday so they can make money off the game, plus who wants to compete with the Packers in Wisconsin. I would prefer them to stop whining and start winning. They're only 17-12 on the season.

Ask Sloan if he's pleased

with the schedule. Better yet, ask him if he's pleased with the players' performances.

I hate my schedule at work. Days, afternoons, nights, weekends, rotations, no differentials, heck, no bonuses (Christmas) or merit or COLA based.

But wow, I have to perform to keep my job, regardless of the schedule.

Grow up, you cry-baby athletes that have nothing better to do with you life than play a sport and cash a check.

So...

I must've missed where anyone from the Jazz organization said they were "not pleased" with the schedule. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting.

You quote Sloan, but he, rightly so, brushes it off: "It's not a big deal."

But it is, apparently, for the beat writer.

So exactly who is so displeased with the schedule? Attribution anyone? Or is this the reporter's spin?

Trade Talk

The "I wanna trade so my kid can go to the doctor" story sounds familiar. Do these people really think we don't have doctors in SLC?

Here's an idea... Why doesn't he just retire (to get out of his remaining contract with the Jazz) and then just re-sign with any team he wants without them having to trade any personel or trade rights to get him??? Then he can negotiate a whole new contract without any obligations or contract buyouts to the Jazz? It's a major bargain for whatever team signs him. Picking up a star player in time for the playoffs without having to give up ANYTHING! Who wouldn't go for that? The Lakers?

Sound familiar?

Anemic

So if I or any of my family is diagnosed with life-threatening sickle cell anemia, I need to move from Utah to an area "much more conducive to recovery than higher-altitude Utah"?

Really? Are there not any patients in the Rocky Mountain region recovering from sickle cell anemia? Or did they all move to sunny Miami, Palm Beach, San Diego, etc., to recover?

Weird.

magnus

Actually it is a medical fact that high altitudes are particularly problematic for sickle cell anemia patients, I'm not totally sure why but I think it has something to do with decreased ability to transfer oxygen in the blood cells. Not that they can't live with it, it's just more difficult, so if you were rich and had a choice for your kid you'd probably send them to sea level too.

The Jazz schedule has been a little odd this year. As of today they have played more games than anyone else in the league accept Milwaukee, they have played 6 more games than New Orleans. I think that makes the fact that they have done as well as they have in spite of all the injuries they have doubly impressive.

I also think it is interesting that even though they are in 8th place right now in the West they are only 2 games out of 2nd place. Because of the number of games tehy have played it is probably more like 4 games, but still, all it takes is one hot month and 8th turns to second.

re: Poor Rich and Big Deal

Read the article again. Nowhere does a player complain about the schedule and Coach Sloan said its not a big deal. I think that maybe the best writer is ticked off.

diaw in the slc

Trade boozer to charlotte for diaw, charlotte is close to miami, charlotte can get an agreement from boozer to resign, send diaw to utah, with a number one; diaw is more affordable, he has a good contract, and if he wants to play in utah, bring him home. millsap can become the starter and diaw can take the role millsap had. boozer is happy, millsap is happy, diaw is happy to play for a reputable orginization, everyone is happy, miller is happy to not have to shell out big bucks, sloan is happy to have someone who plays d, cj is happy because he's just a happy guy, everyone is happy.

no diaw in slc

I don't think the Jazz would want to pay their backup power forward 9 million a year.

Players aren't griping..

I haven't read anything that says any of the Jazz players have griped about the schedule. Honestly, I think the issue is less of a 'longer Christmas break' and more of a 'having to hang around in the Chicago area for two days, idle, when they could have just played tonight (monday)'. Sounds to me like when the NBA was working on the schedule, the Jazz org. saw the obvious... why not play on Monday instead of waiting until Tuesday, when the Bucks also have the day off on Sunday, and the arena is available on Monday.... why make the Jazz have that type of lay-over??? Sure, having an extra day for the holiday would have been 'nice', but I would bet the 'issue' is more about the team being stuck where they are, waiting on a game that should have just been played tonight.

This article is dumb. So what if they would have rather played last night. Why is that even a story? Everybody has little things at work that bug them they say something about it in passing and then it is done. That is what this sounds like to me. Something that is a little inconvinient and somebody commented on it not making much of it. Is there nothing more interesting to report on than this.

How about a trade to Miami where we get Haslem and Marion in return for Boozer and a player or two?
