Good article. Watch out for West Jordan. Ton of talened kids. Best coaching staff in the state. They will have the kids peaking come tournament time.
The sleeper team in 5A is Copper Hills. They are fast and very athletic. WATCH OUT FOR THEM! Region 3 is going to have the best teams in 5A and one of those teams will win state.
Copperhillls plays bad teams. Just llike football. Their schedule is easy so when they our 5-1 you think your good. guess what your not even good.
Can stop Haws, and even when no one else on his team wants to play, he can keep Lone Peak in games and single handedly win them (see Alta, Springville). Lone Peak is definitely the favorite with 23 on the floor every night.
for that not very biased analysis. Is Michael Jordan making another comeback or something?
Viewmont definitely held Haws to one field goal when they played him. His other points were from foul shots... Teams can shut him down.
Obviously the comment "No one in the state" is from an energetic LP fan or from a competing fan wanting to make discussion interesting here. When you don't have to prove who you are things get interesting...
Believe me, no one in or around the program feels that way about Haws or LP. This is s different year.
There are many great teams this year and many great players on those teams. It really is a toss up.
With respect from a parent from last years LP team.
West Jordan still hasn't had a great game since the Pleasant Grove win...Hopefully this team can come with some energy after the holiday break..I think Wj can beat Skyline if matched up again Jordan and Mason played terrible and that hurts that whole team. Lone Peak is still the team to beat in 5A...
To one field goal? Ouch, check stats, he scored 35 on 21-for-25 at the line. According to my numbers he would've had to hit 7 field goals. Let's get stuff straight. I haven't heard one coach call Lone Peak out of the mix, its people that just don't believe they can replace what they lost. Haws is the best player in the state. And if teams can shut him down, how come none have in the last three years? Just wondering.
West Jordan is the top team in the state!
Yeah they lost, but everyone was off, including Ray.
They will come out State Champions.
West Jordan is the team to beat this season!
What is a great game? They are winning. Save the great games for region and tournament time.....
Is legitimately the most athletic team in the state, but come playoff time its all about the half court game. No one has mentioned Skyline who beat WJ.
And Bingham is solid again and could end up in the finals.
I hate Lone Peak and I would never cheer for them, but there's no question that Haws is the best in the state. Who's better?
Wj will not win state. Riverton, Skyline, Pg, Bingham, Jordan,Lp, Davis all have better benches then Wj. Wj has their 5 starters but no bench to help them out. Besides their fans our very unsportsman like. They emberress West Jordan and the administration does nothing about it. good Job Wj!!!
I would say Haws is the best because he has good coaching. I think CJ has better skills all around; athleticism, shooting ability, better handles, etc...
CJ coaching is not the best and Haws coaching is the best...
To me that is what separates the two... Coaching... Quincy Lewis is the best coach in the state period!
Is good and should be considered a favorite still. But their student section is awful. Wake up and cheer or just sit with the parents.
Great comment about the LP student section. LP has NO student section. It's like going to church.
Could be a repeat of 2001. This is a great year for H.S. hoops in the state. Anyone of 10 teams could get hot and win it all. 4A may have the best team in the Prove Bulldogs. They are awsome. In 5 A I like Lone Peak and WJ. Pleasent Grove will be there as well along with Riverton, Skyline, Davis, and maybe Bingham. Could be a wild finish in the states largest classification. Should be fun!
Please keep those rankings in each region. In the end please re-print them. There are a lot of teams that think they are good and get some ink. But for all of us that watch basketball with interest, I believe you are wrong in every region. You make to much of Haws. Yes he is good, real good and seems to be a great kid. CJ, yes a good player with some tools..but there are plenty of others..so please let us all hold on to these ranking and see who really comes out of the regions..
Wilcox wins he is more athletic he will be the better player in college
Collinsworth from Provo high school is the best player in the state have you seen the kid play?!!!! WOW
