Attention Tina: you set yourself up for a bad bowl game by letting California out of the deal to play in the Emerald Bowl and passed on taking the 2nd best team in the MWC this year. You get what you deserve, an over rated BYU squad that is a horrible road team, uninspiring in bowl games, a coaching staff that nobody wants and continues to think of stupid themes each year. Just like the MWC B-ball tourney, the politics of ruined your bowl. But you keep on inviting the Provo people, they are easily led by false information. GO WILDCATS!

Roscoe

Go Arizona!

Leonard

BYU is an awesome choice and so is Arizona. Watch the game and you will see. Also see how full the stadium is. Both teams are excited about this game!

Good Fit

Ya it's a good fite, when you're not living your life right on and off the field. I think BYU likes this Bowl game cause there are not expectations on them.

Highlight

jd, typical ute troll who can't stay away from commenting on BYU articles. Why don't you just give it a rest and prepare for the Sugar Bowl disaster that awaits you "yewtie" fans.

Ryan

I refuse to take my family to Las Vegas. LDS members have no business there whatsoever. BYU needs to upgrade out of the MWC and get out of this bowl.

Blue Gal

I really enjoyed this article about the long standing relationship with BYU. Thank you Tina and Las Vegas for making accommodations in your facilities and activities so we may enjoy your city and still live our standards. Have you thought of inviting another religious school to play BYU? Perhaps you could get out of the PAC 10 deal and provide a game that will pit two religions against each other. I think the interest would be high - both TV and in attendance. You wouldn't need to accommodate the other faith much for no other religious school has high standards like BYU. It would be a cleaner game if all participants were Christian and no chance of off field misbehavior on the part of fans. It would really be a refreshing holiday bowl.

Gee Ryan

What about your LDS friends who attend your temple and live in Las Vegas? Should they leave as well? Is your family better or worse than the many Mormons in Las Vegas?

washcomom

hey Ryan - believe it or not, Las Vegas has good LDS people there, as well as those not of our faith. Yes, it is broiled in sin, but that's what you see in the media. You don't see the good there publicized. Heck! Vegas just froze over this last week. Hell does freeze every once in a while.

Re: Ryan

I agree with Ryan. Las Vegas is the capital of sin and I would never feel comfortable supporting it financially. I am surprised that BYU doesn't insist on an agreement with the Mountain West Conference and the bowls that keeps the Cougars out of this den of iniquity year after year. I protest by not going, although obviously thousands of other Latter-day Saints think otherwise given how we fill the stadium there every year. In LDS culture it seems that BYU football trumps principle every time (and, just so you know, I have two degrees from BYU).

Utah County

Ryan, that is a self righteous comment which in turn magnifies the the Utah county stereotype. What you meant was LDS members have no business involving themselves in activities contrary to the teachings of the church. There are plenty members of the church who do well to live in Vegas and do business there, not to mention a temple being there also.

RE: Blue Gal RE: Ryan

You two give Y fans a bad name. Your comments smack of arrogance and superiority. There is something to be said for humility. Why do you think BYU fans get stuck with the wrap of being "hollier than thou"? For the answer you should look no further than your comments and others like them.

RE: Blue Gal RE: Ryan | 12:03 p.

Thank you for that comment and for acknowledging the propensity of BYU fans to lift themselves above others.

To Highlight | 9:44 a.m. how about we lay off the Utah fans for awhile. They've earned their accolades this year and deserve our support. Let's take the first step and clean up our language regarding the Native American people the University represents.

RE: Ryan and Re: Ryan

Double amens!

I don't care if others here accuse me of being parochial or close-minded but I also agree with Ryan and the Re: Ryan comments. I don't understand why we would want to support a state (Nevada) in which gambling is legal everywhere and prostitution is legal in most counties. Everything wicked is openly available in Las Vegas (even if it's illegal). We have been counseled to avoid support of enterprises that oppose our standards and "donating" to them by attendance at the Las Vegas Bowl just seems wrong. The fact that there are many good Latter-day Saints in Las Vegas is not relevant to this argument.

las vegas man

I would like Kunzer-Murphy to name one thing that has been done to improve this bowl from a BYU fan's perspective. Perhaps it is the one hot chocolate line at the concession stand with a ten mile line compared to the 25 empty beer lines. Perhaps it is having BYU play the 5th place team instead of the 4th place team. I went to the first three games hoping for some improvement and nothing has changed. I implore all BYU fans to stay home and watch this game on television if we keep coming we will be stuck in this toilet bowl forever STAY HOME

Levin

Don't feed the trolls, folks.

I went to the 2005 LV Bowl against Cal and had a great time. (Even the loss was kind of okay, since it was closer than I had expected.) We stayed in the Orleans which had a big bowling alley and arcade, and was generally a lot of fun for the family.

The Cal fans we met in the hotel were great as well.

LV is easy to fly to from pretty much anywhere, and it's an easy drive from Utah. It's pretty hard to argue with the LV Bowl, if your team isn't playing BCS caliber ball.

Fetch

I refuse to go to church because of behavior like Ryan and Blue Gal. I am ashamed on so many levels by these self-righteous comments I don't even know where to begin. Please pull the plug on BYU athletics and go the way of Ricks College.

Stupidity and ignorance of BYU fans rub so many people the wrong way that you can't even begin to assess the damage it has done to the church.

I though part of your church's philosophy was to have charity and compassion maybe a little patience and understanding. Ryan's views sound like taking away free agency. I thought that idea was already proposed and didn't take.

I am ashamed by the actions of LDS people when it comes to sports. It is a game. Enjoy it. There are plenty of other teams that would love to be in the las vegas bowl.

Please people of Vegas and Tucson don't judge all mormons by the stupidity of some of the posts on this board. I don't even know why the DNews provides these forums for self-righteous people.

To Double amens!

Dear Double - I will NOT say you are parochial or close-minded. I will say you are not thinking clearly and that you are wrong.

The fact that MANY LDS people live in Vegas is VERY central to the conversation. If it is bad to "support" Nevada how are these LDS people not doing bad? Its okay to live there but not visit?

Gambling and prostitution are also available in Salt Lake City. Search this website for stories. You are confusing little parts of some cities with an entire state.

Further, the LDS church leaders (remember them?) would NOT allow BYU to play at the Vegas Bowl if it were a moral lapse. They would not allow the church owned University to bolster the bowl's numbers and help them get television money.

The team even went to a casino. Do you boycott all eating places that serve alcohol? Do you not go to Blockbuster because it rents 'R'-rated movies?

Counties that are heavily populated do NOT allow prostitution in Nevada. It is not allowed in Las Vegas, for example.

Boring...

Ernest T. Bass

byu fans don't add to the local economy. St LaVell even said that.
Half the amount of Utah, CSU or TCU fans would have added twice as much to the local economy of Vegas.
And finaly, why on earth is the Vegas Bowl the MWC #1 (usually) and the Pac #5? What a horrible matchup for the MWC.
If Tina doesn't make this the MWC Champ vs the WAC Champ, she's not very smart.
