Justification is of the devil. Jesus said love everyone, treat them kindly too. When your heart is filled with love others will love you!

I think Jesus would say that some of our laws are bad laws if they harm others at the expense of us making a few more dollars.

Money is no reason or excuse to discriminate against others. It is just money. You only have your money and job because the lord allows you to have it.

How do you know these immigrants weren't inspired to move here with the help of Christ?
Mexicans are not all illegal | 12:11 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
I know 2 Mexican LDS families that are legal in the US and moved to Utah from NYC. They were only here for about 6 months and then moved back. The reason for their retreat from what they thought was going to be the Holy Land for Mormons, was RACISM. They were never fully welcomed by white LDS in Utah. They speak good English and had jobs, but they were treated as if they were the scum of the Earth. Thanks for all your racism, you are chasing away good hardworking members of our society.

WWJD | 8:44 a.m.: >>>The rampant intolerance in this state is sad. The judging of a race is wrong. The stereotyping of one group of people to be the one and only problem in our country and state is wrong.<<<

Flooding the United States with immigrants is wrong.

Watch "Immigration Gumballs" on YouTube to see why.

Jesus wasn't a cheat, liar or deceitful scammer. He was a poor humble boy born in a barn. He didn't use people to satisfy himself. He was a real man and one truly of God.

If your legal stay, if your illegal get out. We will help the legal ones with what they need, but there is no more funding help for you illegals. Go back and make legal applications and you will be processed like all other applicants. No more pushing to the front of the line. If we need your labor help we will issue temporary passes, which will alow you to work here and then return to your country until your paperwork is processed. That's just the way it has been and should be now and in the future. Obey the laws, that's what we all do or we get in serious trouble and that is the way in this country. If that's not acceptable go find another country to invade, or spend your energies on your own corrupt country officals. Your countries problems are solveable but you and people like you need to act like you have here, down there.

Republicans lost because we have elected RINO's (republicans in name only) like Huntsman who call themselves Republicans but legislate like Liberals.

There is absolutely no difference between John Huntsman and Nancy Pelosi!
Follow The Laws | 12:30 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Either follow the laws passed by our legislators Sir. John or get OUT. You are nothing more than an elected citizen put in office to uphold the laws of the citizens of this state. You have no right to create your own laws or break the ones of this state. You were not sent to us by GOD, you was elected. You are obligated to uphold our state laws, like them or not.

The Govenor has morphed into a true politician. He's enamored with the idea of his name being tossed about for the big enchilada. Unfortunately, all the western states wannabe's are going to dance to the same music. No third term for Jr.
levotb | 12:43 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Aren't there any conservative Governors in the country? I mean, true conservatives--not RINOs or libs? How can conservative voters allow these idiots to get elected? Utah's supposed to be a conservative state. What the heck are Utahans doing electing such a clown?
GROW UP! & throw the bear.. | 12:44 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
AWAY! jon huntsman thinks on the level of whinny the pooh. if he had of had a real life growing up, like many of us have had, he would certainly look at things just a bit differently. He does not know how it is to struggle looking for a job right here in AMERICAN as an AMERICAN.
This Governor is a trader | 12:45 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Hey Huntsman..what about the cost of illegals to the taxpayers? Let me add them for you:
-public school expenses
-emergency and non-emergency medical care
-the cost of illegals who are distributing, selling drugs,
-the cost of illegals committing crimes,
-the cost to Utah legal residents for jobs given to illegals...
-the cost of incarcerating illegals...
-in-state tuition for illegals

Paying to enforce laws, is far less expensive than the cost of illegals in our state.

Huntsman is obviously for no borders! He should be removed from office

WRZ...You won't have anything to focus on if things keep going the way they are other then perhaps having a ROOF over your head.

And, fellers! Keep Jesus out of this affair. Although at this point in time Jesus doesn't seem to be governing over little Johnnies life.

I am as well tired of stuffed shirts and hypocrites who do nothing but spew hot gastric air from their lungs!
Live the life | 1:21 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
I think it would be quite fitting for Gov- Huntsman to live in a neighborhood filled with illegals and then see how he feels, and without any body guards.
John | 1:30 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
What is wrong with Governor Huntsman? We the people are tired of seeing illegal immigrants take our jobs, depress wages, and steal from our social services, ignore our laws, and increase crime. Legislation to reduce the numbers of illegals in our state is past due. The particular timing of this law is irrelevant. Huntsman is just trying to use the economic downturn as an excuse to delay the law.
Bobby | 1:44 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Question: Why do Americans with children, relatives, and friends, put up with this nonsense? Don't they reallly care about any of them? If they did, wouldn't people like Huntsman be eliminatied from office in practically every state. Everything wrong with the lawlessness that is illegal immigration really lays at the feet of Americans--no one else. We know politicians don't care about the citizenry. We don't need any more proof of that.
Maverick | 1:50 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
I've seen both sides of the spectrum. One side which I agree with is saying, please come to this country through proper legal channels and we will welcome you in our midst, with a sheer sound of sincerity from the heart.

Now to the other side, you are taking away our jobs and you came to this country illegaly, so get out and we are going to do legal legislation to get you out because we don't want you here. Are we really saying this because of the obvious reason, legal status, or are we saying it because we plainly don't want any other Races amongst us? I know it's a pandora box but I just hope that we are not using this excuse to spread hate towards people of other ethnic backgrounds. Just my 25 cents to share.
jimmy | 2:40 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Illegal aliens are lawbreakers. Most of them have committed one or more felonies while in the U.S.
Paul | 2:49 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Don't blame me - I voted for Super Dell!

An economic downturn is exactly when we need to send the illegals packing. Every job they free up will be a job that is available for someone on unemployment.

Of course, SB81 is a joke of a law anyway. All employers should be affected, not just those who want to do business with the State. Still, it is a start.
Kitty says- no more! | 3:11 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Hey MavericK, guns and all! You may think for yourself from a races point of view, but for the rest of us it is only the facts that we go by. Please don't be so accusing. I never hear too much about other races coming to the USA who are illegals, and causing all kinds of chaos, murders, robberies and stealing from the tax payers, as we do from south of the border.
My wife is from Peru | 3:41 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
I wrote to the governor's office a few months ago on this issue. I've been through the actual process of bringing my wife from Peru here legally. I know several people who are here illegally. My best take on the issue is that law must be written that enables those who are here illegally to resolve the problem that they have created themselves - with minimal effort required by our government. How is that done? A window is made - a date is set and all are communicated to - at a certain date, immigration laws will become much more stringent - any threat of stepping forward must be removed FOR A DEFINED AMOUNT OF TIME - then after a certain date, measures are increased to deport those who have not taken care of what they should've - identifying themselves, and being cleared when it comes to identity theft. Identity theft is a MAJOR factor that is overlooked as anyone illegal must use a fake SSN to get a driver's license. As is, the system is too often more detrimental than helpful to the honest, and the law as it is written discourages compliance.
I can see..... | 3:59 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Maverick's point of view here. I've seen co-workers of mine who are off Hispanic and Middle Eastern decent and are Citizens of United States of America, getting harrassed because of their ancestry. There are extremists out there and I've dealt with them in my line of work and they do use this as an excuse to push their own agendas.

Great point Maverick and we can only hope as a country of civilized decendants of immigrants since the founding of this country that we stick to the main issue......"If you are here illegaly, go back to the country where you came from and go through the proper legal channels, even if it means standing in a long line to gain legal status to remain in the United States of America."
rollinson | 4:37 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
How does it escape people(citizens supposedly) that no control of the national or state borders turns the U.S. into the mire that is Mexico and other third-world countries.
Illiterate, un-trained workers do not make a citizenry capable of the decision making necessary to sustain a democratic republic. (yes, there were some sad examples among citizens in the latest election)
The choice is simple; lose the country to unfettered alien invasion or control the borders, remove the incentives, and punish those who try to cheat our system of law.
Mexico will only reform when their population demands it; and if they can escape here, that demand will never happen but we will become Mexico.
What jobs? | 6:18 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
What jobs are all the illegals taking from good hard-working Americans?
I don't know or have heard of any illegals who are managers, working high-tech jobs, relators, car dealers, software designers, teachers, policemen, nurses, doctors, lawyers, etc.

Also, how much is really being spent by the government on illegals compared to the legal citizens of the US? So what anyway, our tax dollars are misspent by government in more ways than just illegals.

Finally, every citizen of this country has broken a law at some point in their life. I was speeding just today. Don't be so quick to single illegals out as criminals, when the rest of us are guilty of breaking some other law.
Jerry | 6:22 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Only in Utah! You loosers blame all of your problems on someone else. Hitler and his henchmen did the same thing. Blame someone else for your problems instead of getting to work and solving problems.
I lived and worked in Utah and I can tell you that the people who were the most trouble were not the immigrants but he long timers!
Get a life!
No logic here | 6:26 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Almost everyone single one of these arguments against illegals are based on emotion. Where is the emotion of compassion for others?

Why are so many of you so angry over this issue? There are plenty of bigger issues out there then this one. Illegal immigration has existed in this country since it was created.

If you truly believe this country has been built to be a great place, then I would argue illegal immigrants have helped make it that way.

I find it ironic that Americans always seem to find a new race to pick on when it comes to immigrants: the Irish, the Chinese, and now the Hispanics.

The attacks on immigrants throughout our history have always been based on race. Racism is wrong, end of story. Hide behind all your lame arguments about laws, money, and not being good enough Republicans but the posts here show this issue is truly about race and almost nothing else.

Get over your emotional diversion to Hispanics and recognize immigrants, illegal or not, are part of what has made our country so great.
Re: What jobs? | 6:30 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Go read the article at CNN today about how US citizens are now competing with illegals for day jobs. I'm surprised there hasn't been an outcry about how those jobs are reserved for illegals.
re: What jobs? | 6:39 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
I have been denied a job as a medical assistant because I don't speak spanish, they hired a hispanic.

I also know someone who is here illegally and they have a job where they are getting paid under the table.

I only speak english - so my chances of getting a job are worse than someone who only speaks spanish. Go to McD's - they have people working there that do not speak or understand english.

In Maine recently a man and 9 illegals were all arrested. One of the illegals had been deported before. They all face jail time, stiff fines and deportation as the person who was transporting them was here legally but violated the law.
Pete | 6:54 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Looks like a few on here who have married into another race have a reason to be bias on here. However, it is not AMERICAS fault that you have relatives who break the laws that you want to protect. We do not need our tax money to pay for lawbreakers who come here.
History Nut | 6:58 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Like it or not, Huntsman's reading of the hispanic vote is dead on. If Republicans can't get the hispanic vote back, they are doomed to being the minority party forever. Legal hispanic residents are the fastest growing demographic in the country.

Keep on hollerin' "What part of illegal don't you understand?" and I'll retort with "What part of losing elections don't you understand?"

Re: what jobs? | 7:39 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
SOunds like you need to join the rest of the industrialized world and learn more than your birth language. You're upset because you can't speak Spanish? Well Free Market theory says that you are just not competitive enough. You are probably white and think that qualifies you for more things in life. There are almost no free handouts in life. Just because someone else (legal or not) has more desirable skills than you, you get upset? Boo Hoo.

So immigrants come here and make themselves more marketable then you are and you get upset. It sounds to me like you are just a bunch of lazy people who think because you are a white legal American you should get all the benefits in life. Wake up and realize that you make your life the way it is. Others (illegals) don't make your life for you. If you are unhappy with your job, figure out a way to get a better one. Don't whine and blame others for your shortfalls. Take advantage of the opportunities our country provides, that's what immigrants are doing.

Sweet little Huntsman has never experienced a real life in the REAL world. It's always been cozy for him as a rich boy, so he wouldn't know how to truly rough it out there if he had too, so he trys to look cool on his little cycle bike ...what a laugh job! It doesn't bother him whatsoever if the tax payers suffer as long as he looks special to everyone else--- BAH HUM BUG!
bountiful gal | 8:39 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
We need to enforce the immigration laws! Look at the health care system, education system, prison system, etc. We cannot continue to give free things to those who don't pay taxes, work off the books, etc. Immigrants are welcome, but they need to come to the country legally. Please Gov. Huntsman, let the law stand.
Anonymous | 10:54 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008

I am so sick of these so-called Republicans like Huntsman that would throw Americans out of work so that some creep who owns a sweatshop can make an extra buck off the exploitation of illegal labor.

Anonymous | 10:55 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
By the way, Mr. Huntsman, ever hear of a guy named Chris Cannon?
Anonymous | 10:58 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Notice that the only people who have something good to say about Huntsman here are the lefto anarchists.

But there obviously are a lot of apathetic Utahns or else Huntsman would not have been elected.

How do you know the illegal aliens were not inspired to move here by the Devil?

Frankly, I get very fed up with the bible-thumpers of the Fundamentalist Religious Left that believe religious dogma ought to override reason.
Spino | 11:09 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
All these comments about what Jesus would do. Jesus would have done things by the book! He would have been honest about getting here. He would not have lied and taken someone else Social Security number to get a job.
He also wouldn't have had his girlfriend get pregnant so they could have an anchor baby to keep them here.
He wouldn't have made thousands work hard so he and his family had free medical, dental, schooling and all other thing that are given to them.
Jesus would have had insurance on his car.
Let's leave Jesus out of this. I don't have a problem with immigrants just do it legally. There are millions of people from Canada here that are taking our high paying jobs but no one is throwing a stink about that.
Anonymous | 11:07 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008

Hey, I am willing to go halfway.

Every leftist who hates American workers who wants to renounce his or her citizenship and move to a third world country, I would be willing to grant legal status to an illegal alien in exchange for your departure.

Any volunteers?

Fundamentalist Left? | 11:15 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
I think by what you are implying, Christ himself was a liberal. He went against the status-quo of the Jewish faith. He subverted the dominant group and brought in new ideas to a society living in deep tradition and isolation from others. He taught that helping others was what the world was all about. He did not support the dominant group that was in power, he went against them. That is liberalism to the core.

Meanwhile Osama bin Laden and the Taliban are right-wing religious fundamentalists. Between those guys on the right and Christ on the left, I guess I would choose the left.
Have fun on the right- trying to tear the world down into a hate-filled non-compassionate society.

You guys are the reasons non-Mormons in Utah hate Mormons. Thanks for that.
Anonymous | 11:17 p.m. Dec. 20, 2008
Note:

Huntsman is parroting the new talking point of the open-borders lobby.

The nation's premier blogger, Mickey Kaus, pointed out the shift in a blog a couple weeks ago. He observed the following:

The old argument was, illegal aliens will never leave, so it is futile to attempt to get them to.

The new argument is, illegal aliens are leaving on their own, so there's no need to enforce the laws.

Huntsman certainly is up to date on adopting the latest "talking point du jour".

By the way, all the Chris Cannon staffers posting here- hope you can find a new job where you are a contributing member of society.
Spino | 12:20 a.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Hate?! What makes you think all these Immigration comments are coming from the Mormons? I'm not. I just feel that immigration should be done legally.
Hate is a strong word and yes Jesus shook up things a bit but he didn't say anywhere hate your neighbor for thinking differently or having an oppinion other than yours.
I think these comments are coming from Americans of all faiths. Some people are just tired of working hard to see there hard earned tax dollars given to people not legally here.
How about using that money to help seniors that can't afford their medical needs. People that have worked hard to make this country great and put into the tax system. I just think we need to take care of our own.
Bobby | 1:11 a.m. Dec. 21, 2008
What Jobs is one of those extremely clueless people who fall under one of several categories:

1)He is an illegal alien himself/herself.
2)He is exploiting illegal alien labor.
3)He is another one of those liberals who isn't. Since liberals always talk of workers rights, union rights, human rights, but ALWAYS put Americans concerns last after illegal aliens.
4)He honestly hasn't a clue about illegal immigration and the massive damage it has done to this nations workers. Hotel, masonry, roofing, landscaping, etc.etc. most of which were at one time well paid jobs until illegal immigration depressed the wages and Americans couldn't make a living from them without state aid, like illegal aliens receive. This isn't capitalism, but just plain socialism. Ihaven't even gotten to the crime yet, document fraud, welfare fraud, tax fraud, medical fraud, theft, rape, murder, repeated drunk driving resulting in mayhem for many AMerican citizens.
Re: Bobby | 8:39 a.m. Dec. 21, 2008
I am not completely clueless, you are. As for your categories:
1. Wrong
2. never done it
3. I don't blame others for my problems
4. Growing up in Southern California I know all about the arguments against illegals.

This issue is Capitalism. Businesses want to make more money. They will do this anyway they can. They hire illegals becuase it savs them money. It is not the illegals fault you can't compete with their wages.

As for the crime issue, gimme a break. Illegals are no different than American Citizens when it comes to document fraud, welfare fraud, tax fraud, medical fraud, theft, rape, murder, drunk driving, and causing mayhem. You are ignorant if you truly believe they are worse at these things than Real Americans.
hiding behind a law | 8:48 a.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Knowing many illegals and legal immigrants, I doubt most people here have ever met one. I am not talking about standing behind someone in a store you think might be illegal and judging them. Do you know their family? Have you been into their homes? Do you know why they are here? Do you know if they really are maliciously breaking laws? Do you know they don't fit into our communities and continue to speak their native language over English?

Get to know them and understand them. Stop hiding behind they are illegal and that is all that matters. When we treat people as criminals guess what they become- criminals. Treat them as people who can and do contribute to our community and guess what they do- contirbute to our community.
Re: Bobby | 9:42 a.m. Dec. 21, 2008
Nice list of jobs we are losing. Those are all low skill jobs. Of course they are going to go to people who are willing to be paid less.

More jobs in this country have been lost to outsourcing than illegal immigrants. Why don't you attack our Republican congress a few years ago that encouraged every business in America to ship their factories over seas?

Americans need to recognize that low skilled jobs will not last forever in this country. That means we need to take advantage of our education more than we have before and not rely on low-skill jobs for our kids.

This is a changing world and we need to accept that not just scream at the top of our lungs that we don't want it to change. Quit complaining and adapt to what our country is becoming. That is how our country has always been. There are not the same kind of jobs today that our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents had.
Linda | 9:57 a.m. Dec. 21, 2008
It's easy to see who takes up for the illegals on these posts. It's the ones who benefit from hiring them for their low paying jobs. It's all back to the RICH & GREEDY who have more than enough, but want it all!!!

Likewise people who have yet to learn how to properly treat people who are different than them will presumably always be with us, until we learn.

Helping people is a two way street. Those helped should reciprocate by returning gratitude. I live in Arizona where our immigration problem is far worse than Utah since Arizona is a border State. For our help, dont you think it would be a courtesy on their part to learn English, respect our laws and the country they are in? Have you ever driven through a neighborhood and spotted a Mexican Flag displayed through the front window of a residence or walked into a fast food restaurant and the person taking your order could barely speak English? As far as I know, this is the United States and not Mexico unless our country is now occupied.

Kenny | 1:55 p.m. Dec. 21, 2008
I've always thought of our billionaire Governor as a pro-illegal alien fool, he's just like our last greedy governor Leavitt. Those rich types just want more slave labor coming in to make them richer, while us ordinary people pay the benefits for the illegals while the employers pay them no benefits. SB81 is a very important bill but all we need to do is enforce the laws we have, require employers to verify citizenship, and quite giving Utah drivers licenses and Utah ID to illegals. We do not need more people coming here, especially illegal, we already have the highest birthrate in the USA and thousands of refugees moving here from Somalia, Sudan, Serbia, New Orleans, and many other nations. Let our young people do the service jobs, same as I and my generation did when we grew up here in Utah. Support www.utahminuteman.org, www.ufire.net, www.cciiwc.net, www.numbersusa.org. Write and call your legislators, senators, representatives, governor, president, president elect, and tell your friends, family, and everyone you know that we need to stop the illegal alien invasion. Save our jobs, environment, economy, culture, language, and quality of life. Stop this nonsense of open borders and rewarding illegals with taxpayer funded benefits!
