why isn't Morgan in the top 20? They are a fine squad
Dart Power! | 9:41 a.m. Dec. 16, 2008
RE: 18. Davis (1-2) Class: 5A
Was: 11. Last week: 1-1. Outlook: Young Darts are taking their lumps, but odds are good they'll be a factor once region play rolls around. Next up: at Bingham, today.
"Young Darts"? Are you kidding me? They start 5 seniors. In fact, their basic rotation is 8 guys. (7 seniors, 1 Junior)
Re: Dart Power!! | 9:56 a.m. Dec. 16, 2008
You were better off just letting people think that you guys were young this year!! Letting everyone know that you play that many seniors who have been in the program that long just shows it is a down year for Davis!!! Have scouted them twice this year; not a very good team!

Morgan isn't even ranked in the top 5 of 3A, how are they going to be ranked in the top 20 in the state. I understand the amount of school pride you must have, however think about these things before you ask dumb questions. If they are really that good, your question should be why isn't Morgan ranked . . . at all, in 3A. That'd be a better place to start.
skyview | 10:09 a.m. Dec. 16, 2008
they are very scrappy defenders thats how they win noy alot of offense
Manti? | 10:27 a.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Aren't you guys 1-3. A 3A team has a hard time cracking the Top 30 if they are like 6-0, but you will never see a 1-3 3A team ranked. Dude, you lost to Delta.
OOPS :-0 I meant Morgan- | 10:28 a.m. Dec. 16, 2008
not Manti being 1-3. Manti looks to be a contender in 3A.
Morgan | 10:30 a.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Doesnt Morgan have Big Pepsi who is the top scorer in the state and averaging a triple double?
DHS DARTS | 11:16 a.m. Dec. 16, 2008
The Darts are young in that they are all new starters. They have hit some hiccups but will turn it around once they find their groove.
PROVO??? | 11:21 a.m. Dec. 16, 2008
How can you say Provo is clearly the best team in Utah when they have not played West Jordan or Bingham? Utah County schools always get credit much like BYU when they do not deserve it West Jordan and Bingham are solid teams
Why Utah County get the credit! | 11:32 a.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Maybe because back-to-back 4A and 5A state titles, silly person. Prove it on the court and then you can cry.
T-Birds | 11:34 a.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Timpview lost to Lehi by 3, they should be ranked higher, and they didnt even have kaufusi
Davis Young? | 11:57 a.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Where does Deseret News get that info regarding Davis being young? Inexperienced maybe, but not young.

T-Bird Basketball always wanting to be like their football team, ranked number one. Football is the sport at that school so be glad you are ranked. Lehi could have won that game by more than 3, as some teams have off nights. Heck, Timpview barely beat Timpanogos.

Provo is the best team and until someone can beat them, they will remain there. WJ and Bingham are legit, but must wait until Provo gets beat.

Nice to see people talking about other possible number ones rather than Lone Peak every year.

Not bashing Lone Peak because they do have the best program in the state and probably the number one coach. Never hate on a winning program because of jealousy.
SHS4LIFE | 12:08 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Still no Springville in the top 20? Didn't anyone notice how they dominated Cedar? Wasn't even close. It was a great win for our program. I heard Lon Kruger came to watch some of our boys perform. No doubt one or two of them are headed to UNLV after that performance. Kruger probably learned a few plays from our arsenal and no doubt picked up some coaching tips from Kitchen and Salazar.

GO SPRINGVILLE! TAKE STATE!
MANTI | 12:14 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Manti is 2a. haha. wow. Northern utah......

PG | 12:22 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
What has happened to them?
UNLV | 12:23 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Kruger wouldn't waste his time recruiting in Utah. He recruits in States that actually have basketball players. BYU can have the Utah boys. UNLV will stick to other states where they play the game above the rim and quickness is the norm. Dream on Springville fan, Kruger was nowhere to be found in your state.
DARTS | 12:29 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Wow, after all the arrogant posts by Dart fanz last year and they still got beat. Now this year they still cant stay off the blogs. Before the year they were claiming State Championships during football season for thier basketball team as they had an undefeated JV team. Well, as you have learned it is all about the Varsity and no one cares about JV or Soph ball. Not too many Championship trophies handed out there my fellow Dart illusionists. Wake up-you arent as good as you think.
Where's Metro....Brighton | 12:35 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
How come Brighton isn't in the top ten? They have four Metro kids on the varsity roster. Anyone who has followed superleague knows that the Metro kids are all going D-1. I mean come on don't you poeple know that Corbin Miller can go anywhere he wants to play college ball.
RE: PROVO??? | 12:37 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
WJ maybe, but I think, in the end, Bingham, while slightly above average, will pretty much turn out to be an "also ran".
Provo is absolutely legit. They've played a very tough schedule so far and have stepped up to the challenge each time.
My 2 cents on Davis | 12:41 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
As for Davis, I have not yet seen them this season (I will see them tonight @ Bingham), but I scouted them a couple of times during the summer and they were outstanding. Really outstanding! Signature Davis style teamwork. I don't know what their issues are this year, but they'll be back, count on it!
Clearly the best team?!?! | 1:13 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Are you kidding me? That comment is ridiculous. If they were clearly the best team in Utah, they would be obliterating their opponents. Lone Peak has a terrible night and if it wasn't for two missed shots at both the regulation buzzer and first overtime buzzer, Provo isn't in the top 5. So for the writer of this story to write a comment like that is ridiculous.
Re: PG | 1:27 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
I think PG are okay. They have not played well and they were still in the two games they lost. They should be okay.
Anonymous | 1:28 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
where taylorsville??? were a great team this year!!!
Re: PG | 1:55 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
PG is good. Here is the deal. 80% of thier starters are football players. Great athletes. They were the best skill guys on a 10-2 football team. One a Tailback (All-State), QB (All Region/All Valley), TE (All Region /All Valley) and the other TE/DE whose brother starts for the Utes in football. Good kids-tough. Oh yea, throw into the mix good coaching and the best player in the State in CJ Wilcox. They are starting to get thier skills going (ask the 3-0 Payson team that just got beat by 25). They will be really-really good come Jan 1st. They usually start 15-0-but this years focus is not peaking early but rather making a run in the playoffs with this different team. PG has lost to #1/#2 team in state with thier guys being rusty. WJ can shoot it. Provo is solid. PG plays a good Riverton team tonight at thier place and PG plays in the best Region in the State (3 were ranked top 5-5A last week-LP-State Champs, PG and Lehi). Hopefully the tough games will make PG better. As we know, everyone can talk on here but until someone beats LP inthe tourney they are the best.
Provo | 2:09 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Wow--Hawaii sounds nice right now. Good luck Provo. Does anyone know who they play?

What about other schools travelling out of State...anyone play anyone big?
JD Books | 3:05 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
South Sevier should be ranked in the top 20 as well. No losses yet.
That's what I'm talkin' 'bout | 3:35 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Bear River is the only ranked 3A team. They're finally getting the credit they deserve. Watch out.
SHS4LIFE | 4:45 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
I kid you not. He was there in Cedar City and watching real intently too. I've seen him at Junior Colleges around the state too. I think he must like Utah.
3A FAN | 5:27 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
I have a feeling Bear River is going to take it all the way to the state championship. They mesh together real well. From what i have seen, they are unstoppable. Congrats to BR for being the only 3A team on the list.
Top 20? | 7:12 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
In the BCS you at least get to see an occasional small school ranked in the top 25. It would be nice to see more 3A, 2A and an occasional 1A school make this top 20. I know what you are thinking, 2A and 1A can't compete with the 4 and 5A schools. It's true they don't have the size of student body to choose from but you can only have 5 players on the floor at one time. I've watched a lot of big schools play and know all about the quality of teams they can put on the floor. This year I decided to go to the 2A preview and the 1A preview, Just for fun. If I were a betting man I would say there is at least 2 2A teams and 1 1A and pos. 2 that could beat some of the big schools ranked here. Many would say if the small schools think they are so good then why wont they play the big schools. Big schools decline most invitations to play smaller schools because it's a no win situation. Win, no big deal, Loose, Ouch.
BR Fan | 7:19 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
i have a great feeling too that Bear River will take it all the way!! thank you 3A fan for your comment

DARKHORSE | 9:00 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Once again! The DN forgot to include one of the best teams in the state..... MANTI!!!!!!
C'mon... Give us the respect we so rightfully deserve....
GO TEMPLARS!!!!!!!!!!!
#1 and #2 go down | 9:06 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
West Jordan and Bingham both go down on their home floors. 5A is wide open this year!
Riverton | 9:12 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
riverton looked unstoppable during the first three quarters of their game against pleasant grove tonight and they were up by 24.. yes 24 early in the fourth before a terrible 6 minute stretch. now i know that all you pleasant grove fans are gonna start making excuses about kids playing football and they are still getting used to basketball blah blah blah. the bottom line is, is that if you think that you are gonna contend for a state title in 5A you have to have more than one player that can do anything. yeah cj ended up with 29 but i am pretty sure he had like 18 or something like that in the fourth. riverton's d absolutely shut him down. riverton proved tonight that they are a force to be reckoned with in 5A basketball and that west jordan and bingham better watch out.
Dartman | 9:31 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Davis 77
Bingham 67
O-ver-Ra-ted! clap clap clapclapclap O-ver-Ra-ted!
WJ fan | 9:45 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
wow, that was humbling. get ready for a rowdy WJ crowd tomorrow against Davis.
skyline eagles | 9:54 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
skyline is legit. they worked west jordan by like 16 points? west jordan was ranked 2nd? watch out 5a the eagles are sooooooarin
WJ | 10:10 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
poor dub j haha i guess they aren't number one in the state
?artman | 10:19 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Why do you Davis fans think so little of your team. The way you chant you sound like you beat a weak team. Do you say that because you lost to Alta, and Jordan whom Bingham beat. Instead I think you beat a fairly good Bingham team. Although without Daniels unconscious 3-pointers it would have been a different outcome. I think if he could do that more often you would be a tough team. Bingham had to play a different style in the end because they were behind. It wasn't that easy of a win. Bingham had a good 22 to 5 run in the second to take a 37-35 lead. We will see Davis come tournament time. Payback really hurts.
Re: Riverton | 10:25 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Shut CJ down? He had 29. Really you shut him down? Ok... I guess you shut him down
RE: WJ fan | 10:26 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Davis's six man will be there.. so BRING IT ON! Davis showed tonight what they can do. All starters on double digits and T-Dan was on FIRE baby :D
RE: ?artman | 10:30 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
Geez! I guess I struck a nerve.
.
Daniels was awesome tonight. They are Pretty deep at guard too. Next time it may be somebody else who steps up and burns you for 25.
Re Re: Riverton | 10:31 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
i meant to say they shut him down for the first three quarters. but in the fourth he couldn't be stopped i will admit that.
pg | 11:02 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008
pg was awful tonight. just one of those nights. lets hope its the last. good game riverton.
Jazzfan | 12:01 a.m. Dec. 17, 2008
Watch Alta slowly make their way up these rankings. With many of the players getting a late start because of football, I think Alta only has room to get much better. Alta has a big team this year in the sense that everyone on the floor has size (unlike in the past with their guards, i.e. Walbeck & Cutler) The game against Lone Peak tonight was a very even matchup, but Haws took control during the second half. Davis is not looking quite as athletic as they have been in the past, we'll see if Coach Welk can get them going. Good Luck Hawks in San Antonio (what other programs in the state get to go to New York, San Antonio, North Carolina, San Fransisco, Washington D.C.?? Any other teams do this?)
SHS Eagle | 12:08 a.m. Dec. 17, 2008
Skyline looks like they are pretty good this year. Knocked off West Jordan tonight.
CJ Defense | 7:02 a.m. Dec. 17, 2008
CJ's defense the last two games has been at a level I have never seen for him. Everyone is talking about the defense on CJ last night. What about CJ's defense on Riverton's leading score? I thought he used a lot of energy on defense.
re: pg | 7:29 a.m. Dec. 17, 2008
I agree. We were awful! It is going to be a long year it appears. With the talent we have, this should not be the case. What is our problem? I know what the problem is, but I would get blocked if stated it here. Read between the lines.
