this is a common event that Correction Officers at the jail have to deal with. It is not a rare event.
The sprinklers are routinely broken by inmates, even though the jail, when built, had a special type that is supposed to be resistant to this type of activity.
Also, the feces is not uncommon, I used to keep an extra uniform in my car, with shampoo and everything I would need, just for those times when inmates would smear feces around or mix feces and urine an throw it on officers.
Believe me, I used my "backup" uniform more than a few times!
I saw the headline and wondered, "And we need to hear about this why?" Then I decided to read it because there MUST be something interesting or important to the story. But no.
No thanks, DMN.
Yes this happens all to often. One way to help discourage this kind of behavior is to make the offender clean it up with a toothbrush.
Unfortunately, some would consider this cruel and unusual punishment and would sue the jail for making the offender clean up there mess.
They can and probably do tell the offender to clean up the mess they made, but if the offender has enough of an attitude to do something like this to begin with, you can bet his response would be, well, unprintable. And then what are corrections officers supposed to do? Beat them until they clean it up? I mean, this isn't the Dark Ages. In modern day America, there isn't much anyone can do in a situation like this. And, ultimately, that's probably a good thing.
