Comments about ‘Warming to harm skiing, study indicates’

I am so sick of the media reporting "A Study" without siting the title of the study and the and published source. Usually these "studies" are garbage science that is NOT published in peer reviewed journals.

I tend to agree with the founder of the Weather Channel (Jim Coleman) with regard to "climate change". Look it up!

After the freezing temperatures from the last few days of -18 Degrees here in Denver, I would welcome an increase of 10 Degrees. Bring it on.

Always be suspicious of anyone who says "you need to be scared of this (even though you didn't know you did), and I can save you if you give me power and money."

It's the classic scam--we estimate Earth's temperature using anything but a thermometer, collect anecdotal evidence that is actually irrelevant, and we program computer models to "prove" our foregone conclusions.

It's amazing, but a scam like this gets followers from politicians who Always follow power and money and from grant-dependent scientists who follow funding like cows follow the hay truck.

Why should I believe in the science of global warming? I'm a "if I can see it, I believe it" kind of guy! All this alarm over global warming simply perpetuates the myth that we need to free ourselves from fossil fuels! I personally love the fact that burning fossil fuels makes my air visible (thus, I can believe in air!). And I can see that our reliance on foreign oil makes us have to send troops to the Mideast to protect our oil supplies and contributes to our trade deficit (two more things I know are real because I see the effects of them on our society!). Heck, if we had a cleaner, domestically-based energy system of wind, solar, and geothermal that fueled our homes, iPods, and cars, we'd not be able to see our air or send trillions of dollars to countries that hate us! "Solving" global warming would make these things into a reality, and benefit our health -- bad for doctors and insurance companies who need sick people to make a living! Then, we'd have to bail out doctors and insurance companies! Oh, my! No, I prefer the status quo of our fossil fuel dependency.

I'm just appalled at this kind of journalism. No mention that the earth has not warmed in ten years, that 2007 saw record cold in the entire southern hemisphere. And a continued obeyance to the CO2 boogeyman religion, it certainly isn't science. Can something intelligent be written? Or do the political correctness police hold a gun to every journalists head?

Study? Study of what? The future? No models have accurately (or at least consistently) predict the weather of the last century if started at 1900. Why would anyone with any sense accept the results of such models for the next 100 years?

Wow. A study determined that if we have less snow the ski industry will have less business. I want to know how I can get some government money to do studies like this.

Always beware scientific theories that cannot be disproved. Remember that global warming displays the following symptoms
1) warmer than usual temperatures
2) colder than normal temperatures
3) persistently normal temperatures (assume this means no fluctuation year to year for extended periods)
4) more rain than normal
5) less rain than normal
6) later start of winter
7) earlier start of winter

So, in essence, the normal ebb and flow of year-to-year seasonal fluctuations, whether warmer or colder--oh, and don't forget too many years in a row at average levels--are all evidence of global warming.

Good science dictates not only that you be able to prove your theory, but that your theory can be disproven. If there is no possible way to prove a theory wrong, then the theory is junk.

Long story short--global warming theories are junk science.

Bad news for snow skiers, good news for water-skiers. that is , if you believe any of this.

I have been shoveling that global warming off my driveway the past few days and it's a problem.

At least the writers didn't blame Global Warming for too much snow. The Sacramento Bee published a 'study' that said the snow was shifting from Tahoe Basin to Mt. Shasta, the glacier is growing at Shasta and it is the fault of Global Warming. No mention of net loss of water or anything scientific. Also the argument is changing to 'If it is colder and wetter somewhere else, that is global warming too, give us money'. They are learning form their Global Cooling mess.

For the geographically challenged, Shasta is 200 +/- miles north of Tahoe, pretty much where one could expect it to be colder and wetter if the storms didn't push as far south for a couple of years.

So where is the Park City water going? Wouldn't it be funny if Bear Lake not only fills up but gets too full. Then we can hear how that is Global Warmings fault, give us money.

Read the research. Look at the facts. Leave all the data in the models so they work. Then lets discuss.

ps. Yep, many models take a few hundred years out of the record or it messes up and makes it look normal.

FYI, a study was just released today that showed that earth has lost 4 TRILLION gallons of freshwater ice in the last 10 years due to glacial/ice cap melt. It also mentions that the arctic is on average 10 degrees warmer than it was 25 years ago. That's quite alarming, and can hardly be said to be a statistical aberration. That observation also doesn't involve any controversial future models - it's an observation of the past.

It's too bad Algore has politicized this to the point that people are ignoring this very real & significant problem because they don't agree with Al politically.

RE: FYI None of the observations you cited are indications of anthropogenic global warming via CO2. Glaciers have been retreating most of the time since the end of the little ice age in 1800. The Arctic was as warm as today in the 1930's--it goes through dramatic cycles.

That's what I meant by irrelevant anecdotal evidence.

I love how these guys say that we're going to be 10 degrees warmer in 90 years when the temp has only gone up a degree or 2 in the last 100. Oh and by the way the temperature dropped .8 in 2008 and all the glaciers in ALASKA grew this year and we also have record growth of arctic sea ice this year.

What it really means is at best is the climate is changing up or down and we may or may not have anything to do with it. Check out the Great Global Warming Swindle on "YouTube".

Just think, if all those U and BYU and under the age of 28 Utah liberal's, would quit "blowing-off" so much "hot-air" everytime they speak, in the form of lie's, the North West climate change would not mean shorter seasons and less snow on lower slopes, and less "play-time" for those that sit under a gray sky for several months long, and, get cabin feaver. Think about that, next time ya'll are home playing on the internet. Now, get steamed more here, and melt more of that snow. LOL.

This is so much nonsense. These so-called researchers are most probably working off grant money paid for by some environmental group who has chartered them to prove their agenda, which says CO2 causes climate change. There is not a shred of evidence that CO2 causes climate change. There is plenty of evidence to the contrary. As CO2 has gone up in the last few years, global temperatures have not. This is no temporary fluke as they would have us believe. CO2 is NOT a pollutant! The world will never heat up because of it. End of discussion. Climate cannot be forecast even for a few months ahead, let alone the next 25 years and beyond! They have used the so called climate models to predict the future of the earths climate. They are so fanciful, and so very foolish.
I would like to encourage all readers: DO NOT BELIEVE EVERTHING YOU READ ABOUT CO2 CAUSING CLIMATE CHANGE! THE MEDIA NEVER PRINTS ANY OPPOSING VIEWS. IT IS SIMPLY A MISGUIDED AND FALSE NOTION. THE EARTH IS NOT COMING TO AN END BECAUSE OF CO2!

We have a saying in Sacramento each winter. If there's no snow we will go golfing or sailing. When the snow is parse, great climbing in Yosemite Valley is abundance. Success in life is about having options.

Nobody actually believes in Global Warming except people who are sheltered and don't do their own studying on the matter. Any educated person can see through it. In 100 years the avg. has changed 1 degree? Did they have global warming 500 years ago also when the earth got a little colder? Must have been all the cows that inhabited the earth. These same people believe in evolution too. Our cows evolved into horses. Come see. The whole thing is to get gain. If I would have thought of it first I would have and been living the good life. Deceit and lies is what it's all about.
