Please..you fired Sluga...what a slap in the face...glad to have him back..he iw the one that put Bingham on the map..

Puzzled

Why didn't Bingham press Jordan? They allowed Jordan to dictate the tempo and this game stayed a lot closer than it should have been. The timing of Binghams substitutions were different in this game than in the previous three. After watching last weeks blowout of Timpanogos, last nights game was tough to watch. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing the coaching. I think Dubach is one of the best out there. I just don't understand why you get away from a full and half court press that has given you so much success in the last three games.
This team has very good talent and depth and deserve their high ranking. Cifford needs to stay out of foul trouble early. He is a huge force on offense and defense. Bingham has a balanced attack with many kids contributing. I am very impressed with Arnell, especially on defense. He defines the term "tenacious D"!!
GO BINGHAM!!

dubach

If you sayin Sluga put bingham on the map your correct. But look at what Dubach has done for the miners as well. EVERY single year he has been there they have made playoffs and plus what about 4 time region champs. That is incredible! They have a chance at 5 in a row! so give Dubach some credit

Go Bingham

I have watched both coaches in their career's and I think Dubach gets much more out of his players than Sluga ever did.
Back in Sluga's day, Bingham had many teams that would come out early in the season and blow teams out. This was because of the athletic talent of those teams. Later on in the season and playoffs, when great coaching kicks in, these teams would go cold.
Dubach has teams that play well and finnish strong. His teams find ways to win at the end of games and at the end of seasons.

Former Sluga Player

I Bet Sluga was ready to scream watching that game last night. There was no Fundamentals at all from the Bingham team, every time they missed a easy shot or turned the ball over,(Which there was a ton of both of those) they committed a STUPID FOUL slapping at the ball. It was ugly to watch, Very sloppy. I just watched Dubach stand there and yell hardly ever calling a play just yelling a lot. that is why the offense was so bad, 14 pts at half????

I do agree that Dubach gets the best effort out of the kids, But so did Sluga we all played our guts out. the difference is that we didnt play jungle ball, we were organized, we werent held to 14 pts at half by a average Jordan team.

With the athletes at bingham my grandma would win and she knows nothing about b-ball. So dont say that he is a great coach cause he wins!

a mess

an ugly game by both teams. It looked more like football than basketball. The officials let all kinds of pushing an shoving. It would have been nice to see two pretty good teams play. Unfortunately we had watch a poorly oficiated mess.

Dubach is not Sluga

There is no comparison.

Yu r correct

Dubach is not Sluga. Dubach is better!!

match %% record

Sluga wins

Dubach vs Sluga

For those 25 year olds and younger who claim Dubach is a better coach than Sluga are up in the night. Sluga's teams played much harder and more intelligent than Dubach's teams. Heck, Dubach has had more talent the last 6 yers than any team in the state and should have won more than 1 state title with that talent and we can say the same for football too. Has Dubach's teams ever fouled? By his reactions, I would guess not. Besides little league, what other coach in their right mind substitutes 5 players at a time. As a fan of another region rival, I am glad Dubach coaches Bingham and I hope he keeps his job because it gives our team a chance with lesser talent.

Seems to me that

if there isn't a significant drop off in talent, rotating players keep them fresh for the end of the game when it usually counts. Like you say, if the talent level is there, why not use more players? Name the years Dubach should have won the state title when he didn't! Now football, I would tend to agree for Alta beats Bingham for they have less guys going both ways. Dubach's teams are not even close on defense compared to Sluga's - that I i will give you. Sluga's teams also played harder for a longer period of time as well.

Football Fan

Three words say it all for Slugas legacy:

1- Hardy
2- Pollard
3- Roberts

At least 10 brothers from those families played for George. Track his championships and you'll find one of those names on the roster.

Pollards pulled their kids (Scott) from Bingham because of Sluga.

Hello

Dubach is very well liked. Sluga is very well respected. Isn't that the way it should be?

Football Fan

Anonymous: That is true but they still were there to help, like I said, check the roster, there is even a Pollard or two. Tebbs was also a big name in Georges era.

Bingham Miner History

Enough! Sluga and Dubach are two great coaches, each suited best for their own time! BOTH coaches are well respected by the coaching community for their ability to coach. Each coach has had great players, but also both know a lot about the game. Being the 4th game of the season, I am not sure that there is much to worry about now, as Bingham is learning to play as a team and is working out the kinks. Are they not 4-0? It does not matter HOW they win, as long as they get better each game and gel as a team, things are going to be good for the Miners. Shame on you, "Former Sluga Player", I guarantee you that George would not appreciate you putting down a Bingham coach or the team as a whole. Seems like you did not learn anything from that great coach. Good luck this year Miners, it is fun to watch you play, defense is great and soon the offense will catch up!

Football Fan,

Pollards were never a factor at Bingham. Allan (as a junior) and Karl (as a sophomore) started for Bingham in the 80-81 season and then played for Mountain View the next year. Pollards were out of Bingham long before Scott was old enough to play and I think Scott played high school ball out of state?

As for Roberts and Hardys, they won George's 6 championships. Although a little before my time, I believe that Glen Roberts and Bruce Hardy won the 73 and 74 state championships. Then Fred Roberts was the force for the championships in 77 and 78. Finally, Kenneth Roberts won the 89 and 90 titles for George. Those were the 6 titles George won as a coach and had a Roberts on each team. The Roberts had 3 other sons who played for George but without the same success. Of course George also won the 1960 title as a player.

I don't think either coach was/is particularly good. I think they have had excellent athletes who win despite their efforts to screw it up.

Bingham Grad

I was at the game and I thought that Jordan outplayed Bingham other than one stretch in the third quarter. It seemed to me that Jordan missed countless layups that would normally go down. It was one of those nights where you had to "grind it out" and hope that you hit shots at the end, which Bingham did. I was happy to see the Miners win, but I left VERY impressed with Jordan. When is the last time you could say that Jordan plays defense? I'd say that they were pretty darn good on Friday, and if they hit some shots this season they will be a tough one to contend with. It was a great game from a competetive standpoint, despite the low scoring. nice win Miners, and thanks for inviting the alum back for the game.

re: Dubach vs. Sluga

Spoken by a true Riverton fan....lesser talent....besides what coach in their right mind would not want 10 players that he trusted on the court, and not just 5? Ask any coach and they would love to have the depth that Bingham does....

Sluga

I heard a story...not sure if it is true. Can anyone confirm. At Ken Roberts senior year banquet or something like that, his old man spoke.

He said something, king of joking, to Sluga. Something along the lines of... "I am all out of sons, you are going to have to win a championship on your own now" I laughed at the story, but I was not there, so it may be an urban legend.
