I love shopping at etsy.com shops. There are so many interesting products. I've mostly purchased items for new nieces and nephews, but a couple of larger things as well.

Congratulations to all the artists working with such a variety of mediums. All the best for success.

It's interesting because Etsy will be losing a lot of seller's February 10, 2009 - a day nicknamed National Bankruptcy Day because of the recently passed CPSIA. I wish these sellers good luck.

One thing the article failed to mention is that there is an organized group of local etsy sellers "utahetsy" who are dedicated to promoting etsy locally. For those who want to shop local, searching with the utahetsy tag will bring up local etsy shops.

There is also a brand new market place available that, unlike Etsy, does NOT charge the artist for setting up a shop. They take a 5% fee at point of purchase. Take a look at 1000 Markets - just add the dot com - and you will see a vibrant new age artisan community that promises to out pace Etsy in the future.

Ditto to Maje. It would be good if you, who value small manufacturers of toys, blankets, etc. to take an active part in helping to change the new laws enforced by CPSIA. There are petitions you can sign, representatives to be called and written to (Jim Matheson is on the CPSIA board) etc. Challenge and fun (all one word with the dot com at the end) has a new blog with more information, etsy has more information on their website as well, and google handmade toy alliance. All great places to get more information on how to take action. The new laws will shut down most of etsy and other sites that sell all over the Nation or even world wide and your craft fairs as you know them. Granny the knitter will be illegal after Feb 10,2009. Hopefully DN will write an article on it soon.

I adore Etsy! It's the first place I go when looking for birthday and Christmas gifts. You can find things so cute, so personal. Great website!

As a stay-at-home mom Etsy is my creative outlet. Not only does it give me a great excuse to create but I have also been able to connect with amazing artists around the world.

Thanks Etsy!

etsy has been wonderful for not just selling, but for feedback and socializing. The teams that they have are a great resource for meeting like minded artisans who help to support each other's works.
And handmade creations are truely wonderful & unique...let's help make it a handmade holiday

all you etsy lovers, please sign the petitions and get active in fighting the CPSIA or your little outlet for passion and finding friends will be illegal after Feb 10, 2009!

Don't believe it, go look up what cpsia regulations wrote, it is true - your crafts will be illegal without $300 - $500 worth of testing!!!

Etsy has been so wonderful for buying and selling. I never would have been able to get enough publicity for my little shop if I hadn't been able to use etsy.
To find local sellers that belong to the Utah Etsy group you can search "utahetsy".

I'm so excited to see local Etsy sellers in the media! Etsy has proven to be a very successful route to sell my illustrations and other works of art. I find myself suggesting it to all the artists I meet!
