Gig'em Gary. I can see it now... Romney stadium packed to the rafters with rabid Aggie fans screaming there lungs out, chanting BCS BCS BCS!
traitor | 1:12 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
how could he do this to utah?
just thinking II | 4:38 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I think it is great that Andersen has been chosen. He did a great job at Utah and I hope he will do a better job at USU. we have great coachs at the other blue school, and the red school who were defensive coordinators so maybe we can make it a third great program at USU.

re: traitor | 4:59 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I totally agree. Saying he looks good in blue, a Utah guy...Utah State guy. He doesn't want to think about Utah anymore, only USU. It's enough to tick you off.
RE: traitor | 5:53 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Would you give up a promotion at Work? That was not a Intellegent post on this Blog. All Cordinators dream of becoming a head coach at a D1 College someday.
RE: traitor | 6:10 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Because Utah couldn't beat Boise State, but he believes the Aggies can, or he wouldn't have taken the job. He says as much in the article.
Gary Andersen | 6:25 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
You look better in blue than that girly red. :)
I just hope , , , | 7:03 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
he doesn't coach for a year then bolt back to Utah like he did when he was at Southern Utah.
Ute | 7:30 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I wish him well.
He'll still lose to Utah.
At some point in the next five years he'll beat the Provo zoobs and the potato zoobs.
Re Traitor | 7:36 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Uh, the same way your beloved Kyle did it to BYU. It's economics man. If you think college football coaches are loyal to a single program and it's fans I've got two words for ya "Urban Meyer". Let us know when you get your head out of the sand...just in time to see Whittingham bolt for greener pastures and bigger contracts any day now.
LOL | 7:43 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
That's a good one. Way to sell it to the troops Gary. You couldn't even beat Boise State when you were at Utah, with a varsity team, how do you think you're going to all of a sudden be able to do it with USUJV??? Boise State is light years ahead of USU in football and will remain so. I remember Guy said the same thing and got the same excitement from you bozos when he took the reigns.

It's a sad comment on the state of affairs at USU when Boise State puts more fans in the seats at YOUR STADIUM for a football game than you do!

It'll take a whole lot more than flowery words from Gary Andersen to change anything at USU, in relation to Boise State. Nice try though.
Excuse | 7:44 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I'm sure Andersen leaving is going to be the excuse Ute fans use when they get thumped in a bowl game.
Sith | 7:45 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Well, the best of luck to GA at Utah State. An opener against the Utes will be a sell-out, I think so and will be fun to see a former Padawan going against his former Master.
Whats Next | 8:16 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
This is a great opportunity for Anderson. It would be great to have three good college teams in the state. However, what is his status with Utah for the next month? I don't see how he can coach Utah's defense for the next month and at the same time move his family to Logan, organize his staff, and recruit for USU (and against Utah). In addition, I heard Anderson may take some other Utah coaches with him to USU. This puts the Utes in a tough place while preparing for the biggest game in its history (bigger than 2004 because the opponent will probably be stronger). So the question is: what will Whittingham do with the defense while preparing for the BCS bowl game? I guess Kyle could coach the defense himself or promote one of his position coaches to coordinator. Any other thoughts?
Best of Luck | 8:25 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Andersen is saying the right things but lets not get too excited. Bronco fans would love for the Utah State rivalry to mean something again but USU has a long ways to go. Andersen couldn't beat Boise State while at Utah - is it going to be easier at USU?

Utah State is fighting an uphill battle in recuiting in the region against Utah, BYU and BSU and it's not getting easier. Those programs are on a roll and BSU may soon join the MWC (We hope - the WAC isn't doing us any favors).

Aggie fan needs to represent as well. As much as we fom Boise love taking over your stadium it would be nice to see some local support for the team. A community should be embarassed when a visiting team from another state puts more fans in the stands than the home team.

Best of luck with the program - we in Boise would love to see you guys punk the Utes and Cougs and give the WAC some credibility. Good things can happen but may take time.

Go Broncos!!
Be Nice | 8:31 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
He has done a great job at the "U". I was very disappointed to hear him strike out against the "Y" in his TV interview. Where is respect and sportsmanship among quality schools? I'm glad that Bronco Mendenhall doesn't speak like that of the "U" or Utah State.
Get Real | 9:09 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
He views Utah Utes as a sinking ship and jumped on the first life boat he could get too. The Utes are toast in their bowl game and wont be back to a bowl game for some years to come and he didn't want to be apart of that...
Recruiting | 9:42 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I've got a neighbor that is a football coach at a local Utah high school with a successful football program. He's told me that they never see or hear from Utah State for recruiting their kids but they will normally hear from Utah and byU. I think that UsU has historically dropped the ball on instate recruiting and Gary Anderson will change that. He's one of the top recruiters in the state. I'm not an Aggie fan but I hope he can build that program and make it successful.
Get over the MWC | 9:45 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Please get over the Boise State/Mountain West garbage. The Mountain West Conference has had one good year in ten. There is no one outside of the Intermountain West that thinks anything more of the MWC than the WAC. Boise State would be foolish to move to the MWC. Why leave a conference that consistently puts up three top 25 teams for another conference that consistently puts up three top 25 teams? The "good" teams in the WAC are just as good, and the "bad" teams are just as bad. Can anyone say San Diego State? BSU's best bet is to stay put in a conference that regards it as the flagship institution, is competitive in all sports, and has a television contract with networks people actually watch. No team from either conference will ever be given a crack at a national championship so why bother throwing away a mediocre shot at a BCS bowl for another mediocre shot at a BCS bowl? Good luck Aggies. Every move that makes you stronger helps us at Boise too.
Utah alum | 10:13 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Ute fans should take it as a compliment when their staff is approached. BYU has had to deal with this for years. Andersen will be making at least 3 times the money at the U. Chill out all you fans calling him a traitor.
Lame | 10:20 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Calling Gary Anderson a traitor is the lamest post I've seen for a long time. People have goals in life and for him to take a step up in life is not being a traitor, rather someone looking out for his family's best interest. It's not always all about football. Have a clue Utes fans.
Re: Get over the MWC | 10:21 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Amen brother. Each conference has its ups and downs. One year the MWC is better overall, the next year the WAC is better. Improving the USU program will eventually pay dividends for the entire conference. Good Luch GA.
Beef Zerkie | 10:36 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I think it could be a good hire. Certainly his enthusiasm is needed in Logan right now. So I say props for the positive thinking.

But calling out Boise State? Probably not such a good idea. BSU responds pretty harshly to things like that and they can explode when given that kind of motivation.

As to the tangent, anyone who can read would know that outside of our region, EVERYONE thinks the MWC is a tougher conference as a whole and not just this year. BSU has gone unbeaten 3 times in the last 5 years. And despite beating OU in a BCS got bumped from the BCS this year by MWC for that very reason. Just like they got bumped by a MWC team in 04.

Boise State would be fools not to jump at a MWC offer if given.

Aggie in Bama | 10:43 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
He not only called out Boise State but Utah and BYU. If he teaches the Aggie football team to have the toughness and focus that the Utah Defense has had this year, the victories can come. Boise State does not need to be talking of jumping to the Mountain West, if Coach Andersen gets the Saban-like domination going.
pay: | 11:03 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
anderson will make almost double what they paid Guy. Guy made $230,000.

Looks like USU is getting serious, they are gonna pay money this time for a coach and assistants.

next year though they still go 0-12.
John L | 11:04 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I was told John L was a guarentee by every aggie on earth.
BCS Buster | 11:20 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I'm sure that BSU is shaking in their cleats at the thought of playing USU now.
Memo to Aggie Fans | 11:23 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Andersen will undoubtably be another bit of cannon fodder for a nonfootball institution that is a wanna be at the top of the collegiate athletic echelon. It takes money and USU is not in a position to mount any legitimate effort to assend this latter.....from the administration, coaching, recruiting, stadium or any other standpoint. Please.....they are living a lie in Logan, and are throwing good money after bad. It is possible to have a basketball program that is halfway decent....but which in reality can't do anything against the bigboys either....(Utah and BYU are not in the bigboy category...so don't give me the notion that just because they consistantly or at least hold their own with them, they can do the same in the "major" sport of football). So please leave the WAC and get in the Big Sky or some other conference you can compete in....come on! The days are gone in Utah where 3 major programs can co-exist.

Nevertheless.....best of luck Coach Andersen.
Bronco | 11:27 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Maybe Kyle will offer Mendenhall a job.
Cats | 11:30 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Actually Gary Andersen and Bronco Mendenhall are very good friends. They coached together at Northern Arizona. Whatever was said isn't personal. These guys are professionals.

I just wish the fans could grow up and stop living their lives vicariously through a few guys on a team whom they have never even met in their lives. Fortunately, my self esteem has nothing to do with a football team. I wish these rabid fans could get there too.
Broncos are worried | 11:43 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Gary Andersen hasn't even met the players he'll be coaching next season, but he already has Bronco fans worried that Coach A will quickly turn Utah State's football program around and provide some real competition for the Broncos.

BSU's days of ruling the WAC unopposed are coming to an end.
WOW | 11:50 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Hey guess what there are other sports than football and basketball, USU is the WAC champs in many other sports they may not bring in the stature a good football program does but I travel the nation for work and at bars, airports, restaurants and other places everyone knows the Aggies basketball team. They all say how they like Stew and are amazed at how they consistantly win 20 games a year. As for the Boise State homers who think they should move to the MWC wow that would be stupid. Trade in the new multimillion dollar ESPN contract the WAC just got for the Mountain......The WAC has been a great mid-major conference for decades the MWC is where the WAC teams jumped too but too bad the stature stayeed with the WAC. HAve fun watching your games on the Mountain next season I will be enjoying my Aggies and other WAC schools on crystal clear High Definition!!!
Nexu | 11:51 a.m. Dec. 5, 2008
It's a job people and there are people out there who are crying wolves about Gary Andersen using this opportunity as a ladder climbing scheme or a hub to move on up football coaching jobs. What's wrong with that? There is nothing wrong with moving from job to job for more money etc etc etc., and I'm sure Gary Andersen will do this job for Utah State Football to the best of his abilities and the best of luck to him.
I turn down all offers | 12:12 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Dang! What's Andersen's problem? I personally turn down all offers for advancement and salary increases at work.

It allows me to sit home and watch more football on TV so I can comment on bulletin boreds (misspelling intended).
RE: Memo to Aggie Fans | 12:22 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Why would you assume USU could compete in the Big Sky?
players leaving? | 12:22 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Any word on players leaving the program now?
Well | 12:28 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
The Utah State High School Football All State roster is out, and I hope Coach Andersen is on the move already to talk to a lot of them.
Re: re traitor 4:59 am | 12:43 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
What do you expect him to do? Would you prefer him saying Go Utes infront of the people who are now his bosses?........LOL!!
Before USU | 12:58 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Before the smurfs worry to much about USU next season, they need to worry about the Frogs this season!!
enthusiam | 1:03 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Didn't Brent Guy also generate a ton of excitement and enthusiam in his intital press conference? USU is where coaching careers go to die.
TMONEY | 1:17 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I like what recruiter said. USU never seems to go after Utah highschool players, and I never understood it. There were a lot of good players who never got any offers and USU could have picked them all up, What better way to boster fans and create a stronger fan base than to recruit the locals. Get after it Gary stop going for 1-2 star athletes in California when you can have the same in Utah
CougarKeith | 1:25 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Why are you booing a guy for taking a Division 1 head coaching job? He is not a traitor at all! USU fans wanted someone who would come in and "STAY". I got news for you, this guy is a Utahn, so he isn't going to leave in two or three years, he will stay and build a program, then if he is successful he will want more money, and he will stay for a long time! I think the Ute fans are worried they might get beat by the BIG BLUE up north in a couple years! I can't stand the Ute's, but the fact is if I were a BYU assistant and the Ute's were in need of a head coach and contacted me, I would consider it, and probably take the job! Gary Anderson would have been stupid not to have taken the job! I am surprised the Aggies didn't go after a bigger name, but I think it was a good hire, it is better than taking Robert from BYU, we need him! I applaud the hire! Who knows maybe I will become a Aggie season ticket holder, it's a shorter drive than Provo!
recruiter | 1:36 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Yes, Andersen, please recruit the slow Utah hs players, so the U can focus on states that actually produce decent talent
Re: Wow | 1:52 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
When was the last time your Aggies were on Crystal Clear High Definition? Just wondering
USU | 2:30 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
has he hired a staff yet???
Anonymous | 2:45 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
Go Aggies! Go Anderson! Gee you mean the Utes and Cougars aren't the main focus of attention and they are crying like spoiled children? It's refreshing to hear some other sporting news.
Go Big Blue | 2:58 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
It is a great week to be an Aggie. A new football coach who is excited about new possibilities, and the opportunity to be 6 and 0 after thumping the y in basketball tomorrow.

Next year USU will be a 500 football club! That will be a great accomplishmentfrom 104th out of 119 programs today.
Re; Get over the MW | 3:18 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
YES! Thank you... MWest fans are so full of themselves it drives me crazy! In a few weeks those from the MW will have been to just as many BCS bowls as the WAC and they will have lost as many BCS games as the WAC, and they'll lose big just like Hawaii- especially without Anderson. I love USU but I have a lot of respect for BSU. The fiesta bowl win over OU alone should have gotten them in over Utah this year if you ask me. I believe in Andersen and I think he'll do awesome things for Utah State. GO AGGIES!!!!!!
Re: Before USU | 3:22 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
TCU is the best team in the MW and everyone knows it... BYU should man up and come play in the Humanitarian Bowl but everyone knows how that would end. 13-0 against MWC pal, worry about that.
Ute & another Brent guy! | 3:44 p.m. Dec. 5, 2008
I am disappointed in this choice as well as many other USU financial supporters/alumni. By not picking one of the two former Aggies that where both (even more qualified) then Gary Anderson, Utah State will lose even more money now, GA go back to Southern Utah, a few seasons riding Kyles coattails whoopee:(
