For a second I thought we were talking about BYU's sorry history before LaVell Edwards, an Aggie, jumped ship and saved it from mediocrity. And how can we forget Utah's doormat days as a stepping-stone school before MacBride became the longest tenured coach in school history. It has to start somewhere. Maybe Anderson is the right coach to build something exciting in Logan. If he is willing to stick around for eight or ten years and the school is patient enough to let him work through some of the mess he inherits, there might be a new future for the Aggs. If not, it will surely be the same old story--a story that is part of every school in the state of Utah, not just USU.

I am disappointed in this choice as well as many other USU financial supporters/alumni. By not picking one of the two former Aggies that where both (even more qualified) then Gary Anderson, Utah State will lose even more money now, GA go back to Southern Utah, a few seasons riding Kyle�s coattails whoopee:(

Too bad you feel that way. How can you say that Chico and Baer were more qualified than Anderson? He is not only one of the top recruiter's in the nation but one of the top assistants. Maybe you should read the players comments about how excited they are for Coach Anderson and support the program. With no support NO coach will ever turn it around.

USU can't afford the money to fork out 500k to convince a really good coach to come to USU and stay long term.

Gary Andersen is thinking like an investor who puts money into a risky investment for the hopes of the highest return. If Gary Andersen has success at USU even mediocre success it will launch his career. Staying at the U would have been the safe choice. But Andersen wants to take his career to higher places. I say good luck to Andersen and may this job at USU take you places.

USU picked the top assistant from a two time BCS qualifing program. Be grateful he was willing to consider USU given it's recent history. What we need to do now is get behind the program financially. It's going to take some patience but at least we have a good start. Buy some tickets, attend the games, and give the guy the resources he needs to succeed.

...if Andersen leaves on his own after a few successful years at USU. It will mean that he's done a good job and bigger schools and programs beckon. It's better than than three decades of coaches leaving because they were fired. And it will be easier to recruit a replacement coming in to a school that no longer has a team ranked among the worst in the nation. Win-win situation.

You mention some good things....It's a good thing BYU & UTAH are having a good season and you good ol boyz from salt lake, can criticize little ol USU. What about Basketball ROCK?? Dont see you and your MWC buddies talking about how USU has beat the pants off of BYU & UTAH every year they come to logan and @ BYU 3 yrs ago by 20. Cant wait till the ags start spanking the U & Y in Football, then you can say, wow, guess, I should write about how some boyz with a vision, Barnes & Anderson took USU to a the Top in Utah and WAC. By the way Boise has owned the wanna be's @ MWC 17 & 0 the last 10 yrs. GO AGGIES, we gotta make it happen with our new coach and great young talent.
