Aggies never competitive?

"Always in motion is the future."

Things change. USU football is back, baby!

Go Aggies!
re:fine coach (gag, gag) | 4:35 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008
College football coaches come and go, and head coaching jobs are hard to come by, but Andersen would go to Timbuktu to get a head job...with the press that goes with it, good or bad. He sunk the SUU ship even further when he recruited football players and coaches to Utah after his "fine" year there(gag, gag again). Watch out coach Mac, oops wait, Mac and Gary are in love with each other, although he might recruit WSU players away. Chris Hill knows that if Whit left and Andersen was in the running, he would be sinking the Ute flagship.

Lots of comments about Anderson is just using USU to get to the next level. I am an Aggie fan, and if he does this, I don't care as long as he makes the program stronger. Guy has built a pretty solid foundation and he did it the right way. If Andersen can add to that in a year or two, then that will be super.

On the note of Andersen leaving after a year or two, look what Urban Meyer did at Utah. He is only there a few years, but he made the program more appealing for recruits. If Andersen can at least do that, then I will be happy.

I am still not sure about the Guy firing. I wished he was given one more year. Hopefully Andersen can come in and make me feel better about the decision.
Hey | 4:36 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008
ASk Gary what his record was at Southern Utah (horrible). I used to work on the sidlines at Weber State, during his years at Southern Utah and the only team that had less dicipline than SUU was Cal-State Northrigde.

USU would be doing a huge dis-service hiring Gary.

"If the Utes were not undefeated... nobody in Cache Valley would even know who Anderson is."

You must be an Aggie fan cause your logic makes no sense whatsoever. I'd say that being a huge part (without the Utes defense there is NO way that we stayed undefeated this season) of an undefeated season and a bid to a BCS bowl game is a very respectable way of becoming well known. If I were you I'd be very grateful your program is getting such an excellent coach.

We'll miss you down in SLC Coach Anderson.

Go Utes!
Love this hire | 5:09 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008
I think he's going to do well at USU. I'm not so concerned about competing with BYU and the U, but want to get bowl eligeble and potentially win the WAC. Andersen could be the man for that job. With Utah off the schedule and BYU possibly going the same way, it could be some time before we play either. Barnes needs to schedule to win for a couple of years, get this program's confidence back, as well as the fan base, and then try their luck against the U and Y.

Go Aggies!! I love the fact that they hired a guy who loves the State of Utah and the State of Utah football.
Re: Hey | 5:25 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008
Andersen was at SUU for 1 year. His record was 4-7, if I remember correctly. The team was pretty good discipline wise and they bought into what he brought to the program. You might be thinking of the previous coach, CJ Gregory.
Know it All | 5:45 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008
Andersen won't take the USU job. He and Whittingham are angling for more money from the U. Whittingham interviewing with Washington as well.
Draper Ute | 6:01 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008
Good luck Gary. It will be great to see someone get USU competitive again. Gary is the guy to do it. We'll miss him at the U but it will be a great opportunity for him.

Good news is he is leaving the Utes a great defense that only loses 2 starters for next year.

Ute will be fine and USU will be better. That is goodness for eveyone!
go USU | 6:15 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008
I hope he does look at more of the Utah players. Brent Guy overlooked Utah for players from TExas and Calif. and look where we are now? Look at the state championship teams we have produced?? Brent Guy's in state recruiter turned his head and went to Texas when the talent in Utah is better, smarter, and has a desire to win. Oh, They assumed these boys would walk on. Many went to Snow or Weber and then USU was interested when they saw how successful they were. Weber State is successful and they recruit most of their players from Utah. Hmm??? maybe it's the ones who walked away for a better offer..a scholarship???
RE: Cats | 6:20 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008
I teach high school and have had to put up with the pompous high school kids that are BYU fans. When the finally lost to TCU I rubbed it in their face and they brought up the same thing...it's quest for personal perfection not a perfect season.

That is a bunch of crap! If anyone say BYU Linebaker Dan Nixon's interview after the Air Force game he said that the quest was still on because they could still win the conference championship.

You can't have your cake and eat it to. If you were undefeated then the whole thing would be about the quest being one step away with a bowl win. Since you are not undefeated the quest is now about personal perfection...give me a break! It's one way or another and all the BYU fans need to get on the same page! Cats...Your insecurity is showing because of your remark!
Baer is the Man | 6:49 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008
I as many know Kent Baer is the right guy, he can reconnect to past players in the program better then anyone else. The money I give USU monthly would be better off supporting my Daughters while they are in college. I tired if losing, this is another Brent Guy! I am done! Stick a fork in many alumni as well as myself!
Cougar | 6:51 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008
Why don't we hire some cougars while we are at it!
RE: Cats | 7:06 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008
OK What about Bob? Psychology boy. Call me insecure but you know it is true. BYU's quest for perfection was over at TCU and pounded out at UTAH. I sense that you sense insecurity because the truth hurts, but alas it shall set you free as well.

BYU's quest for perfection had little to do with their lives. Just listen to the post game interviews after their losses. Even if the quest was to win the MWC, well once again you finished third and FELL FLAT ON YOUR FACE.

cheeers mate:)

Why don't they.. | 7:21 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008
I wish they would have taken Andy Ludwig instead.

Good Luck to Anderson in Logan. He's a great coach and I don't expect him to be there longer than 3 years as he'll turn the USU program into a winning program, get a couple bowl game invites, and then leave for GREENER pastures if you know what I mean.

Seattle | 9:20 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008
I think this will work out for USU. Bringing in more local talent will create more interest from local fans.

Still, wouldnt more money for assistants and recruiting have helped Mr Guy as well? Dont blame him if you dont support him.

Now, wouldnt it be nice if the assistants pay was larage enough to bring in the offensive coordinator from South Florida? He may want to come home anyway.
It worked at UCLA.
RE: Striker | 11:30 p.m. Dec. 3, 2008
BYU trolls said that Utah was finished when Meyer left. Oops! What do we have here - Utah football is a program, not a coach. Utah doesn't have consecutive 10-2 seasons but they do have two BCS appearances. Keep wearing your Aggie blue in Provo. Good luck Coach Andersen.
Naysayers are Y fans | 12:28 a.m. Dec. 4, 2008
If you have a fraction of a brain, you'd see that this is a fantastic hire. MUCH better than the alternatives (Canales or Baer). Anderson is a winner and he knows how to recruit.
As a Utah fan (and USU alum), I hate to see Anderson leave the Utes. He's a heck of a recruiter, heck of a motivator, and is the best game-time adjuster in the MWC. Utah's defense isn't the gimmick defense seen at New Mexico and BYU. It's a legitimate, tough-nosed D, and is always #1 or #2 in the MWC.
He's shown he can recruit big-time. He's shown that he can manage a football program (he actually did a great job at SUU - he just had no support), and he's not going to bolt. That's why he wanted to take this job even ahead of San Diego State (which is a great job) - because he wants to stay in Utah.

USU will be competitive. I guarantee they'll be in a bowl game within two seasons - a huge step for the Aggies.
