Utah Utes football: Team back to work, sans opponent
84 comments | Read story
If Utah and BYU had to play EVERY week in a conference like the PAC 10 or BIG 12, the best they would finish is third or fourth. Utah has NEVER beaten a school that has finished in the top 10 at the end of the season.
I challenge you to name one school Utah has beaten that has finished in the top 2 of their BCS conference.
The fact that Kyle is willing to listen to offers could either be a ploy for a raise at Utah, or a sign that Kyle is ready to move for the right price.
...said the tdS fan who was first to comment on a Ute article. You're here since nationally, one of our programs is RECOGNIZED and HEADING TO PHOENIX or NEW ORLEANS, while the OTHER program is irrelevant and nobody really cares where they're going.
You REALLY have to hand it to tdS fans. Poor sports to the end. I LOVE how they can't spell either Utah or Utes, but rather go for the phonetic approach and think they're clever. Let me ask you all something...How many letters are in Utah? How many letters are in Yewtah? Which is the most efficient spelling? How many of you actually LIVE in Utah/Yewtah? How many letters are in Ute? How many letters are in Yewt? How does insulting a Native American tribe really effect fans from THE University of Utah? How do you insult Native Americans and call US classless?
P.S. The Yewts thing is stale to even BYU fans, just like the Zoobs is to Utah fans.

Bronco Collie (aka Pony Poodle)
Easy to answer if I understand your request:
"I challenge you to name one school Utah has beaten that has finished in the top 2 of their BCS conference."
West Virginia, USC, UCLA, Oregon State, Arizona State, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Louisville.
I think a couple of those have finished in the top 10 as well.
Just like Utah, some years their up, some years.
their down.
Mediocre GA Tech of the crappy ACC, beats mighty GA of the SEC at home. GA finished 1 game back of FL in the SEC East.
Your comments about BYU and Utah are like painting a portrait with a white washing brush. You cover a lot of area without any detail.
Utah's program has been consistantly improving, while some old "Big" names are dwindling, i.e. Notre Dame, Nebraska, Washington. These teams have all won multiple NCAA football championships, and then fallen on hard times.
Don't try to paint Utah, BYU, and TCU with that big brush. The proof is in the details. One of those details is the strength and character of a team at the end of the season, not what was at the beginning.
Utah by 5.
Colt McCoy with a chip on his shoulder pounding the Utes . . . Priceless.
Try asking some OTHER questions that dont require quantification. Like, what difference does spectator attendance matter ANYWAY when youre getting blown out 48-24? You see there? The math had already been done. Now they can open their scriptures and seek out the answer.
And yes I'd rather lose in a BCS bowl game to a quality opponent then win in the LV bowl. I'd take that anytime, every year.
Can't wait until the bowl games are announced and for the Utes extending their bowl game streak.
Go Utes!
Secondly, where were you during the Utah - Oregon State game when the officials gave Utah the game with that grossly missed call on the two point conversion at the end of the game, you remember, the one where your top rated QB threw the ball ten yards behind the receiver, who tried to turn around and ran over the defensive back of Oregon State, trying to go back and catch the terrible pass and the OFFICIAL bailed out the Utah season with that HELP in the way of a yellow flag, and you say you DIDNT need help from the refs.
Seriously, just enjoy tripping into the BCS, if you had to play TCU or BYU at there place this year, you to would be "going to a bowl that nobody cares about". The stars were lined up this year for Utah - be happy for that and rout for your team without shooting your mouth off.
West Virginia, USC, UCLA, Oregon State, Arizona State, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Louisville.
I think a couple of those have finished in the top 10 as well.

What year did these alleged wins over Top 10 BCS teams occur? Also, what was their overall and conference record, and final ranking?
So a hang-on-by-the-skin-of-your-teeth win over THE WORST Michigan team in history counts as a Utah win over a Big Ten and National champion team
Gotta love the crimson-glasses wearing spin meisters.
1) You still sound bitter about the Washington gift...and a little mad that Utah beat Oregon State...you clearly didn't see the play or you would know that it was a P.I...but that's neither here nor there, game is over, and Utes won.
2) The spelling is "root" for your team, not "rout" for your team
3) Keep telling yourself that mad Max is the best QB in the conference....while his numbers are the best, fact is he just can't put it together when it matters (any big game / game that can put you on the map).
4) Just keep working on getting to your first BCS, then let's talk.
Boom - outta here.
And guess what else??? "Mad" Max Hall is back next year to scorch your weak secondary. Thus, sWhittingham and Andersen are looking for new job because the are scared about what Max Hall and company have up their sleeves next year.
BYU is 1-20 against ranked teams. That is ridiculously pathetic, Utah has beaten 3 ranked teams this year!!!
Pittsburgh (8-4) actually finished in a four-way tie for first in the Big East, and only 1 win ahead of 5th place Syracuse (whom they lost to) in a 7-team league.
Big East 2004
Syracuse_____4-2, 6-6 L
Boston Col___4-2, 9-3 W
Pittsburgh___4-2, 8-4
W Virginia___4-2, 8-4 W
Connecticut__3-3, 8-4 L
Rutgers______1-5, 4-7 W
Temple_______1-5, 2-9 W
Pittsburgh's only win's against Div 1A opponents with winning records were at home against:
#21 Boston College (9-3) 20-17
West Virginia (8-4) 16-13
Pittsburgh barely beat a Div 1AA team at home and the Big East cellar dweller:
Div 1AA Furman (10-3), 41-38
at Notre Dame (6-6), 41-38
at Temple (2-9), 27-22
Pittsburgh LOST to:
Nebraska (5-6), 17-24
at Connecticut (8-4), 17-29
at Syracuse (6-6), 31-38
Pittsburgh didn't even appear in the BCS rankings until November 27th, jumping in at #23, and moving to #21 in the Final BCS Standings on December 4th.
If Pittsburgh hadn't been in an automatically qualifying BCS conference, the Panthers would never have been considered for BCS bid.
Also, BYU fans need to quit trying to throw Anae off the ship! It's a bitter pill to swallow seeing your rival beat you and then go to another BCS game, but you've got a great program and you're almost there, so quit pouting and calling for Anae's head. Nobody ever complains when everything is perfect...nor during the years BYU goes 10-2 and beats Utah...so why complain now?

teams, years, rankings of all 21 BYU opponents.
I'll bet you a $ million you can't back up your "stats" with facts.
ESPN/ABC Utah -v- Alabama Sugar: BYU -v- Notre Dame Poinsettia
USA Today Utah -v- Alabama Sugar: BYU -v- Arizona Las Vegas
CNN/SI Utah -v- Alabama Sugar: BYU -v- Arizona Las Vegas
CBS Utah -v- Alabama Sugar: BYU -v- Arizona Las Vegas
CFM/Scout.com Utah -v- Texas Fiesta BYU -v- California Las Vegas
NBC Sports Utah -v- Alabama Sugar: BYU -v- Nevada Poinsettia
Personally I like Utah (12-0) -v- Texas (11-1) in the Fiesta Bowl and BYU (10-2) -v- BSU (12-0) in the Poinsettia Bowl.
Otherwise, too many UTAH/BYU fans are making the same stale arguments from prior to 22d November. The result on the field, that is Utah's resounding win, solves which team the best was in 2008 - Utah - period. Only the most ardent Homers are still arguing close wins, SOS, blown calls, etc. Save these arguments for next November.
I don't expect BYU/UTAH to spend much time holding hands and singing Kum Ba Ya, however whats best for the MWC now (BYU and Utah included) are wins by Utah and BYU; TCU, AFA and CSU. The enemy at this point is all non-MWC teams, particularly those of the BCS conferences.
Reality
2009 will be brutal for Utah
6-6 Record
28,000 Fans In stadium again - just like old times
People will call for Whitinghams head again
You will pay for all the good breaks you caught in 2008, and eventually pay for all the times you ran the score up on bad teams late in the game
Good Luck. I might watch your bowl, but it probably won't be televised.
weird, i just went accross the street to get some lunch and i intercepted a pass from max hall

Understand, Alta's 5A MVP from 2007 State Championship team will be playing at the U next season?. Ryan Rosenvall has been in Southern Cal playing for a JC running the U type offense runs a 4.5 40 and is an excellent passer. Any info?
