There is a reason all your neighbors are selling their Wiis. A Wii is fun to play for a couple hours, then gathers dust, so save $50 and get a 360, or spend some extra cash and get a PS3 with the benifit of a blu-ray player. Both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 have a good selection of games available for all audiences.
As for a Wii collecting dust...sure, if you are too much of a couch potato to move more than your thumbs when you are playing games. Otherwise, they can certainly go the distance.
Most people I know who own a WII for more than 6 months have stopped playing it. But I see that as a plus, a good video game system is cheap, fun and easily picked up and played for a bit, then put back down. You dont want video games to claim hours of your day, believe me.
Tons of fun. Does have some language, though, in case you have younger kids you don't want repeating what they hear.
