Utah's best chance continuing their bowl winning streak would be playing Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

The Utes would have a very tough time hanging with Texas in the Fiesta Bowl, and have almost no chance of beating an angry Florida team in the Sugar Bowl. A matchup with Florida has blowout written all over it.

Utah would do well against Va Tech, Boston College or Cincinnati in the Orange Bowl, but the Sugar Bowl won't pass up Utah for one of those teams.
Anonymous | 9:14 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Utah's best chance to win would be playin Cinnci or a ACC team. Bama, Florida, Texas, OU, TT, USC would all smoke Utah. Utah doesnt have to offense to put up major points to keep up with any of those teams. USC is likely headed to play against PSU in the Rose but SC would dismantle any offense that Utah has. I hope Utah playes Boston College, that would be the best matchup for them. Good luck!

Even being ranked 6th and un-beaten, no one cares about them....as shown by the whole 2 posts they received.

To: best chance

You're lame buddy. Good thing my utes aren't scared or gutless like you! We are UTAH...that's the problem with you people, U start believeing the hype...the sec and the big 12 teams are good, but they're not great! They better bring their "A" game against the Utes or they will get smacked in the mouth!..so with that being said,"grow a pair" best chance!

Prayin we get an sec or big 12 team!

Utes 2-0 in bcs bowl games!!!!

Bowl Streaks | 9:33 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
I for one would love to see Boston College and Utah as they both have 8/7 bowl wins respectively. BC is a better team than their ranking indicates, Utah's ranking is better than they deserve. (I hate to say) Utah would likely cover the spread if they play anybody ahead of them as Whit/Anderson always prepares their team for bowls.

GO UTES!
Anonymous | 9:33 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Sorry Utah if you don't play in the Orange Bowl,You will get dismantled in any other bowl, BC will over take u for longest bowl streak
Ute Fan | 9:37 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Yes, you are right. We should be thrilled with an article telling us the team resumes practice today. If we really support our team, we will write effusive posts about this practice schedule. We've run over the bowl scenarios 100 times already. Not all of us have pathetic enough lives (besides me, obviously) to post on insignificant material.
utah_man18 | 9:43 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Let's rewind to the first of the season when Fresno and byu were the obvious BCS busters; now jump to Utah down eight against Oregon State and fans booing Brian Johnson; oh, and don't forget the predictions that TCU would destroy the Utes or that byu would win in a shootout. The fact is, this Utah team has heart and it has embarrassed doubters all year. The only team I don't want a piece of is Florida, but that shouldn't matter because they're the best team in the nation. Go ahead and doubt us; call our offense weak; say our defense is overrated. Just promise me you'll post on the story covering the Utes' 13-0 season and tell me how your humble pie is tasting.

Go UTES!!!
re: bring it! | 9:47 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Utah already has the BCS game locked up. We have nothing left to prove. All those naysayers who believe our only chance comes against the softest BCS teams are tdS fans anyway. They're still sour that we've earned our 2nd BCS bowl before they've even sniffed their 1st; and during THEIR "Quest for Perfection" no less. The tdS is well aware of all the sports analysts naming their hated nemesis the premier non-BCS team in the country. Some have even realized they're not even the 2nd or 3rd best non-BCS team, and it's KILLING them. All their arrogance is coming back to bite them, and their only defense is denial.

It's great to be Ute!
UteNation | 9:47 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
It just feels great knowing that our team will be playing in a BCS bowl game; I agree that it will be a challenge, whoever we face, but I believe that Coach Whittingham and his staff will have the team well prepared and I expect them to play well and even win.

GO UTES!!!!!
Anonymous | 10:11 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
The reward of beating a top notch team - whether that chance is slim or not - heavily outweighs the risk. That 2004 team was downright great, but its accomplishment was diminished by being stuck with the Big Least champ. On the other hand, look at what the win over Oklahoma has done for Boise State in the national eyes. I'd rather have our Utes lose in a tough, competitive game against a Big 12 or SEC, than beat up on an outmatched Big Least or ACC champ.
Better not be Florida | 10:16 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Don't count on Urban to call off the dogs if the Gators play the Utes in the Sugar Bowl. Utah fans are delusional if they think they could hang with any of the BCS teams ranked ahead of them.

Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, USC and Alabama would all crush Utah.

The Utes might have a chance against Ohio State, Penn State, and Texas Tech.

Boise State would be no problem. TCU will handle the Broncos in the Poinsettia Bowl if the WAC doesn't force BSU to stay at home on the smurf turf.
Anonymous | 10:23 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Utah handle Boise State? Wow.. I remember the last time Boise played the Utes. 36-3 in Rice Eccles! Boise...State...Boise.. State! BSU beat a good Oregon team in their home stadium. Utah has not played great away from home against teams with a winning record. You cant tell me they would clean up Boise St.
Big 12 or SEC | 10:30 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
I have to laugh that the team who beat New Mexico by 3 points and Michigan by two points is calling out the Big 12 and SEC. Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, or Alabama would blow out the Utes. Better hope for Cincinnati.
lou | 10:39 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Does anyone realize that the Utes could have been playing for the National Championship if it were not fore a bone-headed move by the athletic department?

Yes, the Utes.

The Utes had Texas on their schedule for THIS year a few years ago. It was 3-game seies. With an upset of the Longhorns and Texas in the National title hunt, the Utes would be right there.

Instead, we cancelled on them because "we had to make room" for TCU. Which was bogus. It didn't make sense because we then scheduled Weber State a few weeks later.

We could have even bumped USU for a couple of years like we did to go to Notre Dame. Then last year, we added Michigan to the schedule for the 12th game.

Canceling to "make room" for TCU was a big excuse. I don't know if it was Chris Hill or Urban Meyer who nixed the game, but they are surely regretting that decision now.

What a shame! Oh...what could have been?

Great season though...GO UTES!
to Best Chance... | 10:40 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
"Utah's best chance continuing their bowl winning streak would be playing Alabama in the Sugar Bowl." Have you watched Alabama this year? Alabama probably has more than 50% of its team who will be playing or starting in the NFL next season. I hope Utah can somehow not do like Hawaii in their infamous BCS bowl and get humiliated but honestly speaking here, TCU is the best team in the MWC in 08 and Ute fans know it. The only hope Utah has is that their opponent will be disappointed in having to play Utah and totally overlook and underprepare.
ACC is Utes only chance | 10:51 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Playing against the pathetic ACC would be Utah's ONLY chance for a bowl victory. Ute fans better hope for Cincinnati( another disapointing team like Pittsburgh)or even a totally overrated Ohio State team of the big 12. Penn State would kick Utah. The other teams ahead of Utah in the polls would destroy Utah. I think Utah is going to get a very beatable team like Cinci this year because no one from the big 12 or South East conf wants to be disapointed with having to play against the Utes.
Anonymous | 10:59 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
I have to disagree that the Utes wouldnt match up well with Penn State. Please, PSU lost to Iowa who is 5-3 in their conference and has non conf wins over teams like Maine and Florida International to help inflate their win/loss record! I'd love to see Utah play Penn St!
Dave | 11:02 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
It's hilarious that most of these posts are coming from Koog fans who are still feeling the pain of getting crushed by the Utes two weeks ago.

Enjoy Las Vegas once again and leave the BCS talk to the big boys.
skip to ma lou | 11:07 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
The Utes are lucky they cancelled their game with Texas this season and substituted Weber State instead, or, forget any national championship hopes, their BCS hopes would have ended in September.

Utah 2004 might have had a chance of being competitive in a national championship game.

Utah 2008 wouldn't have a prayer.

Even with 6 turnovers killing 6 of their 13 possessions, BYU was still able to put up 24 points and over 400 yards total offense on Utah's "dominating" defense. BYU only punted twice during the game.

Oklahoma and Florida would hang 60+ on the Utes. USC, Texas and Alabama would hold the Utes to a touchdown or less.
Anonymous | 11:17 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Dave, Since when is everyone that has a different opinion than "GO Utes" considered to be BYU fans? Since when are the Utes the big boys? Beatin a 7 win Pitt team isnt talkin about the Big Boys. BSU beating OU is big boy talk. Utah will likely play a 3 loss team in their BCS game while BYU will play a 4 loss team in the Vegas. I'm so jealous.
Skip H | 11:21 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
I love all the armchair QBs that say Utah can't hang w/ the big boys like Texas, Okla, Florida, USC, etc. How do you know? It might take a perfectly executed game, but it could happen.

Utah shredded BYU, end of story. People like skiptomalou are still crying because your pansy Cougs got worked. Get over it....

all i can say | 11:21 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
is go #77 , cause you weren't there when this all started but you are now, as the play starts with you! It's so much better to be a competitor than a spectator which most of america is anyways!!
Dave | 11:44 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Hey Anonymous I don't know where you get your info. from but the Utes will either be playing in the Sugar bowl vs. most likely Alabama or Fiesta vs. Texas. So your wish for the Big Boy Utes playing a 3 loss team can get tossed right out the window. You need to get a clue before posting an uninformed comment like that.

Why can't you admit that you are jealous of your bigger and much more respected BCS big brother!!
y fans' "logic" foiled | 11:49 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
"The Utes are lucky they cancelled their game with Texas this season and substituted Weber State instead, or, forget any national championship hopes, their BCS hopes would have ended in September."
_________________________________________
Likely our BCS bid would have been over if we'd played TX & lost, but not necessarily. After all, two loss TCU is still alive in the BCS & is available as an at large pick. So a 1 loss (to Texas) Ute team wouldn't be out of the mix. Oklahoma is a 1 loss team to TX & are probably playing in the NC.

"Even with 6 turnovers killing 6 of their 13 possessions, BYU was still able to put up 24 points and over 400 yards total offense on Utah's "dominating" defense. BYU only punted twice during the game."
_______________
You only punted twice because you had 6 turnovers as you stated yourself-better than punts if you ask me!You punted 2x vs. NO WIN WA, who put up 27 on YOUR "dominating" d, had 337 total yards & trailed TOP by only 3 minutes. So while I know you're bitter & jealous,I'd not be running my mouth as a y fan right now.
Anonymous | 12:01 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Dave, Wish..please, its a reality. I'd like to see Utah play Bama or Florida, but its not going to happen. You can look on ESPN projections but come on, those change every week! One week they say OU is the best, next its Texas, next its bama, next its florida. So I dont get my info from there. The fact is Utah is the least talked about team ever at #6. The Fiesta would take an Ohio State team for their at large bid, OSU draws way more media and fans than Utah, BYU, BSU, or any other non bcs team can dream of. The Sugar will take the Big East Champ Cinnci who has 3 wins against ranked teams with one of their losses coming agaisnt OU. Utah will get Boston College (likely winning the ACC champ game over VT). I'm sorry but it may not be what Utahns want but its how it will go down. Jealousy is not a factor. I'm happy with USC going to a 7th strait BCS game.
only 11 can play!! | 12:14 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
To all you UTAH UTES haters:

Yall act as if UTAH is just gonna lay down and take the beating!..well I got news for you!..this isn't byu or your mother. I have no doubt that the UTES will smash Alabama or Florida!

Yall the same people that were saying Obama will never be president...Lol...and look what happened!!!!

Put it on dem utes.
RE: Anom @ 12:01 | 12:22 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Huh? I don't really understand your post...

Yeah for USC? Is that what we're going for? Jealousy isn't a factor of what? Playing BC or going to the BCS? Why would Utah be jealous? They are going to the BCS so there isn't a reason for being jealous (see the Y).

The Utes are in the BCS, we're just talking about who we'd like to see them match up against. It's a fun activity us fans enjoy called speculation. If you're excited about USC, go to a California paper and talk about them there. By the way, haven't heard much national talk of USC this year either. Why? Because they aren't going to the NC!

Of course Utah isn't metnioned as much as Texas, OU, Florida, Alabama etc... Those are the usual media darlings and the teams up for the NC bid. Utah isn't up for an NC bid, just a ho-hum BCS bowl game.
Anonymous | 12:35 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Dont understand of course. Ol Dave was tellin me I should be jealous of Utah. Are you Dave? Are you part of this conversation?
Anonymous | 12:40 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
I told you I am wanting Utah to play Bama or Florida. Its great to speculate. They have a 50/50 chance of playing one of those teams. Easy buddy, other fans of other teams do have the liberty to talk about other teams. Good luck in your BCS game against whoever you play!
Re: Anom. | 12:44 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
I'm not Dave or the other poster, but I'm pretty sure the Y is jealous of Utah. I'm a Y fan and I wish we were in Utah's shoes. And yes, as we are posting on this site, therefore we are all part of this conversation. What kind of a comment is that?

As for USC, nobody in this state cares about USC one way or the other. The last time we saw you was at the Vegas Bowl (which they lost to us by the way). The question is, if you are a USC fan, why are you posting here and why are you a part of a conversation that has nothing to do with your team?
Frank Castle | 12:47 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
re: Anonymous | 9:14 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008

Utah has an offense. They just have a OC who has lapses @ inopportune moments.

Gators/Utes has a storyline too good to pass up. I'd like to see the Utes shut down the most overrated college QB possibly ever.

Interesting note: When the Gators won the title a few years back, Brian J was calling the Gators plays before they ran them.
Anonymous | 12:52 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Why, cause I am annoyed he acts like my comments dont make sense. Come on! Utah get the nod to the Fiesta over Ohio State? Now that is nonsense! I have an interest in many college teams around the country. I watch a lot of college ball. I live in Utah so I see what goes on with Utah and BYU. I have season tickets to both schools. I'm a huge college football fan. I can only make it to a few SC games a year. And yes, I remember Utah beating SC in Pete Carrols first season in the Vegas Bowl. That is great for Utah.

Good luck in your bowls BYU and Utah!
Uter | 1:01 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
I would rather have Utah play against the SEC or Big 12 and lose than have them blowout the Big East or ACC. Other than that I think the Utes will do just fine. They handled Oregon State, the handled TCU, they beat BYU. They might not win but they have a good chance.

By the way, I just rewatched the Utah vs. BYU game, and the reason Max Hall through all those interceptions is that the defense was playing for the pass and they frustrated the QB to no end. Good defenses make good QBs look bad. Ask Carson Palmer who got sacked a million times (5) by Utah in 2001, or the Pitt QB in 2004 (9 sacks). It is hard for Hall to be comfortable when his passes are blocked 4 or 5 times in the 1st half.
Re: Both Anoms | 1:05 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Chill guys, let's just talk matchups and opponents.

None of the scenarios talked about here are so rediculous as to invite redicule. I wouldn't be shocked to see Utah in any one of those three bowls and am excited for any of the three. Point is we're going and I hope we win, be it against an All Crap Conefernce, Big Least, SCC or Big 12 opponent. My only hope would be that BSU gets in over one of those joke of a teams that get the automic bid.
Re: Anom. | 1:12 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Frankly, you are a little all over the place, and the poor grammer etc... don't help your cause. I understand what you are saying, but I don't think most posters here think about non-Ute or BYU fans commenting, as this is typically a Utah/BYU post.

Other fans are welcome, but just keep in mind that most posters think they are dealing with fans from one side or the other (as is the case 99% of the time) so I wouldn't get so worked up over people making that assumption. As for me, I'd like to see hte Utes in the Orange Bowl:

A) I like Florida more than AZ or New Orleans,
B) First BCS buster in the orange bowl, the fiesta and sugar have been done already.
C) I could probably talk my wife into going to Flordia.
Anonymous | 1:58 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
re: 1:12pm. At least you get my point right? Grammer isnt my number one focus while on this site, esp while I try and get some things done at work.

Have fun at the BCS bowl if your wife will let you go! I might catch the Utes game if it somehow ends up in Glendale!

patsi U | 3:48 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
I hope Ut. plays a real team in the BSC. They'll get spanked so hard it will be wonderful to watch. Please nobody from the ACC or Big East. Utah has played nobody but patsi's in their bowl games.
54,000 fans | 3:57 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
That is the number of Utah fans the Arizona Republic said attended the 2004 Bowl game. I was there and I honestly feel it was more considering the stadium holds 77,000 and was 90% Crimson. My point is Utah would bring just as many fans as Ohio State to the Fiesta Bowl. Ohio State does command a larger TV audience but this fan argument is BS.
Loving It | 4:25 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
It is a great feeling knowing that BCS is looking at us right in the face. If I remember right, Ohio State went to the BCS bowls the last few years and got manhandled. Even that helps the recruiting more than the Las Vegas bowl. Loving It, Here we come BCS, BYU you should be available to watch it after the first of the year.
Anonymous | 4:38 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
If the Utes go to the Fiesta Bowl then I will go (again). I am not going to nawlins' or Miami so forgive me for being selfish but I am hoping for the Fiesta.
re: Patsi U | 5:01 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
You have bowl record envy. Just admit it! Patsi or not the Utes can take care of business and win a post season game.
Jim | 5:11 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
I will not even try to argue with the people that believe football was created and is only played in the south. As we all know everything is bigger and better in Texas or so they think. Well I live in Utah and I am from Texas, all of my family lives in Texas. Let me say to you, know it alls, these boys here in Utah can play football. On any given, game day Utah has the ability to play with and win against any other team in collage football. So it is to Utahs advantage that teams like Florida, Texas and Oklahoma believe Utah is a pushover. While they talk, Utah prepares. While they argue over who is the best we plan on showing who is best. It has been Utahs history to be counted out, unable to succeed. Time and time again we have proven this to be wrong. So keep on thinking we have no chance it only helps us to prove different. Go Utes
Max | 5:33 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
The ESPN.com guys seem to think that Fiesta is going with Ohio State because Texas vs. Ohio State makes for better TV ratings than Texas vs. Utah. Maybe, but Texas will crush OSU and it won't be a fun game to watch. The Utes will have trouble with Texas but they will at least make it a competitive game.

OSU should not even be in the picture. Boise State should have their slot. Unfortunately, the politics and the $$ of the BSC will never let that happen. Boise would roll OSU if they had to play.

I'm hoping to see my Utes in Phoenix in January!
Mike in Draper | 5:44 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
I am not excited about going to New Orleans, although that is sounding more and more like where the Utes will go. I've been to the city post-Katrina and it just is not a place you want to be spending your leisure time.

With the tough economy, it is a lot more difficult for 25,000 Ohio fans to fly to AZ than for 50,000 Utah fans to drive down there. I hope the Fiesta committee is considering that.

I'll go either way but I know a lot of U fans that will have a lot tougher time getting to New Orleans than Phoenix. Plus, for the Mormon majority in Utah, there is not much to do in New Orleans besides a meal at Emeril's and an alligator tour.

Fiesta, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

Any chance of getting Southwest Baptist University in a BCS Bowl Game?
re:54,000 fans | 6:00 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008

They don't get half that many Ute fans to actually go and sit at any Ute game.
D-Ball | 6:38 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Is it just me or does anybody else feel that tds fans are transparent as all he(ck)!! It's hard to take most of your comments seriously when they're obviously wrought with jealousy and distaste for your more successful bro's to the north! Utah did what it had to do in a year when MOST of the preliminary (and up to mid-season) talk was focused on what THEY were going to do and what THEY were supposed to accomplish. All I can say to you pansy underachievers down there is - REAP THE WHIRLWIND, ZOOBS, ..............REAP IT!!!!
Vegas Baby!! | 7:16 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
The utes wouldn't stand a chance against Arizona in the Vegas Bowl. BYU will once again rise to the top and show the country who the most dominating offense in the world is. Rise and shout, the quest continues.
Re: Dude? | 7:21 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
I'm sure that's what they told you along with all of the other false claims circulated at the school down south. Go to a game... see the fans... feel your manhood threatened... it will be good for you to comprehend what a true quest for perfection feels like.

Go Utes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
