AP Poll | 8:19 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Who cares about the AP Poll? It's meaningless.
Running Ute | 8:54 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
The BCS system works. We are going for our second time in five years.

All you naysayers can complain about the BCS all you want. We are cheering all the way to the bank (for the second time).

It's too bad BYU can't figure out how to get to the BCS. Then maybe they would stop their whining.
Poor Running Ute | 9:00 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Even when you win you can't get over your "little brother" insecurities towards BYU. Even when you win, you still lose!

BCSFailure | 9:06 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
I don't know why the Running Ute is so happy. The Utes should be in a playoff system playing for a national championship rather than just some extra money in a better bowl game. Look at the whole BCS mess this year, undefeated non BCS teams,1 loss BCS conference teams. Boise State is going to get the shaft this year. I am sure the Running Ute wouldn't be so happy if they were the team left out. What about the one loss BCS teams like USC (who I don't particularly care for) but a legitimate gripe if they don't get to play for a national championship. NCAA football and the BCS bowl system is a joke which everyone one can see but know one has the courage to stand up to and change. Go Barack Obama, maybe the only hope for some change in the BCS system.
BYU football team | 9:23 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008

is becoming the "Notre Dame" of the non-BCS schools.

It has good tradition, good past players, great ex-coach (Lavell)...But that's all.
No current talent.
Current coaches are average.
Ute fan | 9:50 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
BYU Fan your negative attitude isn't going to change the BCS its whats out there and Utah has found a way to beat it. once there is a play off system in place Utah will play and climb to the top. While you sit there and find something else to whine about like Not enough teams being allowed to play or they won't allow green jello in the stands... BYU fan do a deep down soul search and find peace with yourself, Utah is here to stay, now go away little boy.
The BCS Does NOT Work | 10:03 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Hey, Running Ute-

You obviously don't follow much football outside the Wasatch Front. I live on the East Coast, and personally don't care if the U or Y make it to the BCS games. But the Big East and ACC champions are getting guaranteed spots this year, and not the MWC or WAC champs? They're all the same level teams. I'll even put the MWC ahead of the Big East.

The BCS works? Are you kidding me?
bixby | 10:06 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Why does the U have "little brother" insecurities towards the Y? Isn't the alltime record against each other even, also in basketball? Is it because the Y is a private school with expensive tuition? I'm happy going to the U and not having to do the honor code and religious thing.
But to football anyway to look at it, especially compared to some of the top football programs in the country, 2 BCS bowl games is something special. It's something the Y hasn't experienced and maybe they can beat a 4th or 5th Pac-10 team with a 3rd or 4th string QB on a last second field goal block again like UCLA last year. I think the U bowl game will be much more interesting.
re: BYU football team | 10:20 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Yes, we're so average that we've lost 2 whole conference games the past 3 seasons. Hey Forrest Forrest Gump are u stupid or something??
Anonymous | 10:32 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
It's funny how yewt fans see a 10-2 season as a bad season. BYU lost to them, but who else did utah even beat. The worst team in Michigan history, an overrated Oregon St. team, and TCU handed them that game. Now that BYU is guranteed their share of the bowl money, I hope the u gets beat down bad.
lost luster | 10:36 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Guess what ewe of ewe fans your "big win" over Ore State lost its luster yesterday when Oregon (a lower ranked team) walloped them 65-38 at Ore State. And u guys had to struggle at home to barely get by them and they aren't even a very good road team (also lost at Stanford and Penn St and squeaked by a weak Arizona 19-17). U are going to get killed in your bowl game unless the BCS mercifully gives u another patsy like '04 Pitt. Too bad for u little lambs that BYU decided to take a dive in the rivalry game so u could go to a bigger bowl and get us some $$$. Better hope your mascot chicken will inspire your little team.
Fans | 10:37 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
It's funny how in England fans of top clubs are very critical of their teams. Even teams that win almost everything every year. Fans over there are more likely to point out their teams weaknesses. In the US fans can go years without winning anything then brag about how their team is invincible and is greater than all other teams. Ute Fan is a perfect example. You would think Utah had dominated more than USC over the past few years.

And the BCS thing. There is nothing in the world like it. It has to be the dumbest, most crazy system on the planet. When you try and explain it to someone outside the US they just look at you like your crazy or your joking.
Chuck | 10:56 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
"BYU football team | 9:23 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
is becoming the "Notre Dame" of the non-BCS schools."

10-2 past three years, MWC conference champs 2/3 years.

How does Utah stack up overe those three years? (Try not to go off-topic--simple question).

Ute Basketball: Tell us more about the BCI tournament.

You Ute kids keep splashing over in the kids pool. You jump out once in awhile into the adult pool, but run right back. That's why Utes do NOT want a playoff. Their afraid to man up and play for real.

Utes are weak | 11:06 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Ha! Can you imagine the mighty Utes in a playoff? They would get smoked by any number of vastly superior teams. Now BSU might have a chance to go all the way - seriously. Laugh if you like Utes, but who DID YOU BEAT in your BCS game?

Though so.
jdog | 11:11 a.m. Nov. 30, 2008
What a big mess!!! I think Mike Leach summed it up the best. Give it to the school that has a higher graduation rate, other than deciding it on the field.
Utah at Miami? | 12:01 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
There won't be any red sea in the stadium this time around. We will see blue sea outside the stadium. Go Cougars next year.
hodsanders | 12:29 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
First it was the Zoobies with "we were 1984 National Champs." Now it is the Uoobies with "we were the first BCS buster and now we're back." You are all the same. Both groups are lame and fail to recognize that this is simply entertainment. All this talk of millions of dollars, what a joke! You get nothing if your team wins and it costs you nothing if they loose. The Zoob's and the Uoob's would be happier if they ever figured this out and just enjoyed college football, the greatest game of all.
Gretzky | 2:41 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
looks like Boise State should leap frog Utah in the BSC rankings today for the lone non-BSC team BSC bowl berth based on quality wins thanks to Oregon putting a licking on Oregon State AT OSU. Utah's quality win over OSU has slipped apparently. TCU and BYU were not "quality" wins it seems. also TCU really beat Utah when you get down to business of the poor officiating that the MWC has lived through all season. With the 61-10 shellacking of Fresno State, Boise is poised to go back to the BSC bowl game in Tempe or Mobile.
Gretzky | 3:28 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Wait while I turn down my Aerosmith CD, I can't concentrate over the sound of "Dream On"...
To Gretzky | 3:49 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Maybe you should crank up "Dream On" because the new BCS Rankings just came out and your Boise is #9 and Utah is #6.

Too bad for Boise. It looks like they will be going to the Humanitarian Bowl this year.
dear: Running Mouth Ute | 4:00 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
I would think an undefeated team would be steamed not to be getting a chance to try for the National Title.
Unless they knew their undefeated record was a sham and that they would get destroyed if they stepped on the field with a real team.
Unless they were hoping to sneak by with a game against Cincinnati or W Virginia.
Unless all they really cared about was 30 pieces of silver to keep them from whining about an unfair BCS.
In 35 years as an SEC fan I have never once heard other fans talk about money relating to bowls or the BCS. Bloggers here constantly whine about money and I have wondered what they were talking about. In my experience it was always about match-ups and getting a chance to play the best opponent you could get to show how good you were.
Maybe for Utes it is really just about the money, sneak out with the payoff; forget going for the title.
That way no need to fear a "crap in your shorts" game vs Alabama or Texas or Florida. (Didn't you decline a chance to play Texas already?)

hint:BCS does NOT work.A Playoff would work.
To: dear: Running Mouth Ute | 4:13 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Sounds like someone hit your cry-baby nerve. It is all about the money for the Utes this year. Millions and millions and millions and millions of cold hard cash delivered to us again by our friends at the BCS.

All of this cold hard cash just adds to our impressive 610 million dollar endowment. Maybe if BYU could scrap together enough talent to get invited to a BCS bowl, their own endowment wouldn't be so small and they could beef up their academics and athletic programs.

Just keep dreaming about changing the BCS my friend. Maybe if you try hard enough the BCS will change. Keep hope alive. Never let anyone tell you no.
they teach 'reading' at Utah? | 4:27 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
DEAR >To: dear: Running Mouth Ute<

Read it again.
No BYU here.
We get plenty of MILLION$
each year in the $EC.
(Two BC$ bowls and 8 or 9 total bowls each year will do that for you)

When Utah get spanked by a real team
we'll see whose 'cry-baby nerve' gets hit.
(bring tissues)
re Utes are Weak | 4:35 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
It is not our fault we had to play Pitt last time we were in the BCS. We beat who played that is what sucks about the BCS we will never know how good the 2004 Utes really were.
Cry Baby Ute Fan | 4:39 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
We are crying all the way to the bank where we will sit down on our 610 million dollar endowment and count our millions and millions and millions and millions of dollars that just arrived from the BCS.

Much of this money will go to academics and cancer research. Utah has, according to U.S. World Report, the 3rd best cancer research institute in the world. That money from the BCS could literally save lives.

Ute fans can easily see past the prestige of our football program and we understand what the really important things in life are. We know that the real heroes in life are not made on the football field, but out in the real world trying to make the world a better place for humanity. That is what the University does every single day.

Go back to your SEC and your dreams of changing the BCS playoff system. The Utes will go on changing the world (with help from the BCS cash).

To dear: Cry Baby Ute Fan,

That was your comeback? I have to say that was pretty weak man. Maybe you should call it a night and try again tomorrow.

All you could come up with was "ZZZZZzzzz..."?!
Real weak dude.
Non Partisan | 5:35 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
BYU is 10-2 which is a high quality record but the fact remains that BYU's sole "quality" win is against Airforce. Any number of teams with worse records could have reached the 10-2 mark with the same schedule. This is not BYU's fault they played the teams on the schedule.
Otis Spurlock | 5:41 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
"ZZZZZzzzzz......"

Nice comeback. How long did it take you to come up with this gem?

Lame, lame, lame.

And BYU's mighty basketball program won an NCAA tournament game when?????
Hey Jess | 6:00 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008

1990 Ty Detmer Davey O'Brien Award
1990 Ty Detmer Heisman Memorial Trophy
1990 Ty Detmer Maxwell Award
1989 Mo Elewonibi Outland Trophy

Top twenty in the country three years in a row.

Utah:

Just some made up endowment figures.

Call us when Utah get's any National Prestige...

Any more "advise" for BYU fans?

Chuck | 6:04 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
It's tough not being invited.
To: Hey Jess | 6:08 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
"Any more "advise" for BYU fans?"

You should be aware that "Any more" is actually spelled anymore. It is one word, not two.

I guess they don't teach you that at BYU.

lol
To: Hey Jess | 6:12 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
"Any more" advice you would like to give?

LOL

Hopefully the MWC will get the much needed respect it deserves.

Congrats to Utah....best of luck in your bowl whatever it is.....just the same, come back and brag when you have actually won a national championship. So it was a long time ago, but the trophy's still in the case. Better luck next year cougs.
Mark | 6:42 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Utes can brag about their season AFTER they have won their BCS bowl appearance,... which they won't. Coach Urban Meyer will be too busy winning the NC to come back and hold their hands.

Iron Cold Steve | 8:05 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
All you BYU fans, couldn't last five minutes with a Big Twelve team like Oklahoma or Nebraska. Get a life and play in a real football conference. You got no talent. Roll Tide in 08!!! AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE!!!
ZZZZZZzzzzzzz........ | 8:22 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Sorry fans, didn't mean to disappoint!

How 'bout this:

> $610million is a pathetically small endowment

> Sorry, there won't be all that much BCS money and it won't be going to the endowment.

> If Utah is going to "change the world" with it's BCS spare change the SEC will be able to "change the universe". Look up the difference in payout.

> This article and post thread are about the 'BCS'.
"We don't really care about football we are curing cancer"

"Our cheerleaders are 'special' (and we put in artificial turf to keep them from grazing on the sidelines)"

Funny | 9:16 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
the millions and millions of dollars the UTES will bring home get divided among all the MWC teams. Thanks!!
Red Cosmo | 10:12 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
To: ZZZZZzzzzz,

Utah's 610 million endowment is bigger than any SEC member's endowment. Look it up.

Cash money baby!! It's all about the green.
Y Grad / Y Dad | 10:24 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
1st, congrats Ute football team. You did it, we didn't.

2nd, some Ute fans are beneath contempt. Floating just somewhere above pity.

3rd, hate to disagree with you, but "any more" is correct, "anymore" would relate to time, not quantity, as in, "I don't want to listen to inflated Ute fans anymore."

Stick with diagraming "ZZZZZZZZzzzzzz," it's more your speed.
ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz | 10:39 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
I must finish my homework. Gentlemen, it was great talking to you about the awesomeness of the Ute Football Program. As Joseph once said, I must bid the adieu.
Re: hey jess | 1:48 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
besides the Doak walker award in 2001, it is pretty pathetic that you have to go back 27 years to pimp your school. BYU is just irrelevant this decade. You forgot to mention your 9-16-1 bowl record. If there is one thing I remember about BYU, it is them getting exposed in Bowl games on national tv. Good thing BYU didn't get into a BCS game, they would humilate mid majors worse than Hawaii did. Keep living in the past buddy. No one cares

>>> "Utah's 610 million endowment is bigger than any SEC member's endowment. Look it up."<

OK, I will:

Vanderbilt $3.49 Billion
Florida $1.22 Billion
Tennessee $1.oo Billion
Arkansas $ 876 Million
Kentucky $ 831 Million
Alabama $ 777 Million
Georgia $ 618 Million
To: WhatDifferenceDoesItMake? | 8:26 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Nice made up figures. Can you say credibility problems?
Huh? | 8:57 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
You know, I've been a Ute fan for a long time. I CANNOT for the life of me understand why so many Ute fans are excited about playing in anything less than the National Championship game. The Utes earned the right to go. BSU earned it, and what's their name...Ball State, earned it. Ok, their schedules weren't as difficult as say, UCS or Texas or Florida, but look at all of division 1 college football and tell me how many teams are undefeated? The answer: 3. It's difficult no matter who you are or where you play. The BCS is a shame. The Utes, Broncos and whatever their mascot is at Ball State deserve a shot at being called the best. Every other Ute fan on here talking about money over a NC should be ashamed of themselves. The Utes may not be the best team in the nation, but until we have a playoff it's not proven and opinions mean nothing. DOWN WITH THE BCS! MONEY MEANS NOTHING!! Unfortunetly, money means EVERYTHING.
DennyG | 9:09 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
All the monies received from Bowl appearances goes to the Conference, not the individual Schools.

BCS works as well as it can without a playoff system.

The fact that they ignor BYU is only because BYU does not win enough. It's kind of simple.

BYU supporters would have the Y in the National Championship game every year if they had their way. Just because they lose doesn't mean they're not the best, right!!!!

Silly fans, sports is something you have to prove on the field, not in the mouth.
Reality | 9:26 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Bottom line is most Ute fans live in reality that is why we are excicted just being in the BCS. The BCS was formed to keep schools out not let schools into the national championship picture. We can thank BYU for that. It will not change especialy now the ESPN has the contract for it is all about $$$$$$. If it were not a playoff would have already been put in place. As for the SEC fans on hear telling us to bring tissue, sorry dude, can't see how dominant the SEC is when WYOMING, YES WYOMING goes to Tennessee and wins!!!. Other than Florida you have not impressed me Alabama is a mediocre team that will be exposed this weekend.
