I encourage BSU to join the MWC. There has been talk that they would rather join the PAC-10. Well, duh! But that's not happening. Remember this school is in BOISE. They have a great record but the PAC-10 is not looking to BOISE to taint their elitist status. They'll be looking toward a BYU or Utah for an addition, if they were looking at all.
I'd enjoy to watch the TCU defense eat up and spit out the BSU offense. I just don't know if TCU could score enough points offensively to win.
This is a bowl game I'd watch!
Better to be a big fish in a little pond (WAC)than a big fish in the other little pond (MWC) with more big fish...Utah, BYU, Air Force, TCU....
BSU should stay in the WAC...where they can get the lions' share of conference championships, sharing a sprinkling with Fresno and Hawaii...
History: Look how meager Arizona State and Arizona programs became after leaving their previous conference - where they were the big fishes...only to become second fiddles in the PAC-10
While TSU and BSU playing would be a great game and fun to watch, both UTAH and BSU need to be playing every single BCS team they can. They both take enough "flak" for not playing enough BCS teams. In addition, both teams need access to the BCS. One unintended consequence of TCU and BSU playing might be to slowly develop simply a mid-major playoff system mindset and permanently put both all of the ranked non-BCS teams into a lower category.
TCU and BSU would be a great game! It would bring a measuring stick of the strength of BSU versus the MWC. However I'm not sure it would be in the best interests of BSU or the non-BCS group.
When strength of schedule is brought up "mid-majors" are criticized if they don't play enough BCS teams and seldom is much said how good the teams are. BSU is especially criticized for not playing many BCS teams. The Humanitarian Bowl features a BCS ACC team, albeit 8th place.
Of more subtle concern is the growing tendency to deal with the non-BSC teams as a category that should have it's own championship. The mid-majors need to compete as equals in the BCS!
The TCU/BSU game potential would be a great one, but it has some worrisome undertones.
Oregon State lost today which means the Pac-10 will now only get 1 bid. So it comes down to Boise State or Ohio State. That's undefeated Boise State and two-loss Ohio State. That's BCS "darling" Boise State vs BCS-bomb Ohio State. How many implosions has Ohio State had in BCS bowls? Who played one of the greatest games in history in a BCS bowl?
The answer is simple... Boise State gets a BCS bid while Ohio State goes elsewhere.
Go non-BCS schools/conferences!! Go Utah, Go Boise!
Is there some problem with presenting a slightly different view. Why cut my comment? It wasn't negative, not off topic? Valid comments?
Don't understand your censorship.
Boise State vs BYU, this one would be a big time thud for the MWC. Boise would put up a big number against your mighty Cougars.
1. Last time BSU played TCU and won, the MWC chosr TCU anywway. How would defeating TCU again help us gain entrance?
2. Man-Card? You're kidding right? When has BSU been afraid of any MWC team? After playing and defeating your top teams for several years now, I think the outcome is about 99% sealed!
3. BSU actually has a better chance of being selected over tOSU. Still unlikely;not impossible. So, that is the best option if it comes the way of BSU.
4. Most MWC fans from TCU, Utah and BYU feel that BSU doesn't belong. Well, if you want BSU, then stop crying about not being able to beat the Broncos.
5. The MWC commissioner indicated that BSU would not have been undefeated in the MWC. Mr. Thompson ought to learn to keep his words to himself. Since BSU has already had the equivalent of an undefeated regular season (12-0 against the mighty MWC), Mr. Thompson looks silly.
SAYING BOISE ST. WOULD HAVE 4 LOSSES IN THE MWC IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO REALISTIC AS SAYING GOOD OLD BYU WOULD HAVE MAYBE AT BEST 2 WINS IN THE SEC!!!
THE MWC ISNT AS GOOD AS YOU BAFOONS THINK IT IS AND BOISE IS BETTER THAN YOU WILL ALWAYS CREDIT THEM TO BE!!!
TCU IS THE BEST TEAM IN THE MWC, FOLLOWED BY UTAH AND BYU- ALL THREE OF THESE TEAMS WOULD RANK NEAR THE BOTTOM IN THE SEC!! REALISM HURTS DOESN'T IT!!
Sure, BSu has put up very padded numbers and even had success against poor teams from the MWC. I don't want them, not for their sports package, rather their incredibly poor academics. Put up the graduation rates and you'll quickly see why they don't belong in the MWC. You are 12-0 with only one quality win in the bunch (barely) but your average GPA would have you going to some tech school for your GRE instead of your BCS. Do I need to spell this out?
Well I agree with you that the SEC is a tough conference, but if BSU were in the SEC they would be the bottom. BSU will always be Utah's kid brother looking for acceptance. Who cares if BSU is 12-0 against MWC teams in the past, it doesn't mean anything this year. You would have lost 4 games in the MWC.
This column is, as usual, a day late and a dollar short based on yesterday's games. I wish Boise would would play TCU. After Oregon's win over Oregon State, Boise is in the BCS. It will come down to Ohio State verus Boise State for the last spot, and an undefeated Boise will get it. Hope Utah gets a better game than playing Boise.
Hey, don't try to talk to these guys about common sense. Didn't you get the memo? The mwc jumped up there and joined the sec, big 10, big 12, etc. this year. In fact, I think they are better than any conference this year. Look at how they smashed Oregon State, USC, Texas, Oklahoma, and all the other "good" teams this year. It's not even close actually. The mwc would dominate head to head any conference in the country. End of story.
Mark May is elitist, pious, egotistical and arrogant. Some aging and maturing will eventually come. For example, consider Brent Mussberger's comments at the end of the Oklahoma game last night suggesting that the BCS should include two non-BCS in the BCS, specifically undefeated Boise State.
Why not? If BYU were 12-0 everyone would be screaming for them to be included. If TCU were 12-0 everyone including Dick Harmon would be screaming for them to be included.
It is unfortunate that the bowl lineups are content to make a "good matchup" so that either a TCU or a Boise State knock the other off so the big conferences can say about the losing team "I told you so."
A TCU v. Boise State matchup does nothing to foster inter-conference play, but relegates either the MWC or WAC to a sure loser, both to lesser brethren status.
Dick, your approach falls into the hands of the BCS. You should be demanding something other than the little guys eating each other up and urging something like the Vegas Bowl which will likely have BYU v. Cal. Why not BCS schedule Boise State v. Cincinnati and TCU v. Ball State?
Sorry Dick try again.
I think everyone here needs to realize that this is all speculation. You can't say that BSU is better or worse than teams in the MWC because THEY DIDN'T PLAY THIS YEAR. Everyone has their own opinions about who they would or would not beat. BSU has an advantage to go undefeated in that they play an easier schedule week in and week out. They are going to have this same problem every year while they are in the WAC where if someone else goes undefeated, they likely won't make the BCS. That alone should be reason to leave the WAC for another conference (specifically the MWC). All the same, Utah earned the BCS bid by having a tougher schedule overall (beating 3 ranked teams and not 1), sorry BSU fans, but that is just the problem of playing in the WAC. BSU is a good team, but we don't know how good they are. They need better competition.
What an arrogant and ignorant article. Fans of the Mtn West have been making the claim for years that BSU could not compete in their league and yet league teams have never been able to match up. Utah beat no one that could really be called an impressive team. The MWC teams beat a bunch of weak teams that don't merit any consideration for anything.
Pure ego and ignorance!
BSU's record against MWC teams is not equivalent to an undefeated regular season because each time they played a MWC team, that team did not finish near the top of the league. So it was more like playing the bottom half of MWC for two seasons in a row. I live in Idaho and get weary of the smack talk from BSU fans. BSU has had just one road win against BCS teams in their history. The top MWC teams all have several road wins against BCS teams. Until BSU gets to that level then they really have no reason to talk smack.
"BSU will always be Utah's kid brother looking for acceptance"
Yeah...I like people who post these kinds of messages. You do realize your "kid brother" has kicked your hiney several times recently right?
Also, BSU did "man up" and play TCU in a bowl...They beat TCU in that bowl.
now what?
"poor teams from the MWC"
Again... ridiculous comments from unknowing fans. BSU has played and defeated the very pinnacle of the MWC multiple times on the road or at home.
BSU's wins are aginst the very best of the MWC...not just the MWC low lifes

"There has been talk that they would rather join the PAC-10"
Where has this talk ever come from? Not the fans that are knowledgeable and, certainly not the administration.
Just because you say it, does not mean it is so. Better provide some links to these "talks"
