I very thankful that Greg Curtis and Carlene Walker lost their elections. I thankful that Huntsman might finally start living up to his potential and stop having the wacko Legislature boss him around. I'm thankful that Mayor Corroon leads Salt Lake County. I'm thankful that Jim Matheson won again and will hopefully run for the Senate in a few years.
I'm very sad the Chris Buttars won again and is already reeking havoc in the Senate!! I'm upset that Utah Lawmakers are not serious about ethics reform and good open government. Maybe, I can be more thankful next Thanksgiving after we vote out Bramble, Buttars, and Greg Hughes. We can always hope!!
The article seems very much in a jocular vein. Not being very familiar with its authors I couldn't tell what beliefs, if any, were behind it. It seems to have a scepticism or cynicism for politicians/ appointees which I generally share. The contempt for conspiracies" is too general; conspiracies are rampant in politics; the authors' very scepticism might concede that.
The only comment I have to make is an heretical question: Is 'America' really the "greatest country on the planet"? I believe it was once but one would have to go back to the days of Andrew Jackson or before to experience it. To think it still so is, in my view, to be lifted up in the pride and imagination of one's own heart - not a good guide.
The true patriot today is, I feel, one who is anxious to restore America's singular greatness rather than to overly extol a nation that is now somewhat on a par with other liberal democracies of the West. Gratitude should be, as the article inconsistently states, "humble". It should be directed to God's kindness, counsel and forbearance rather than a self-congratulatory pat of one's own back.
