Please tell me how byu beat Utah. Seriously please. When maxie started throwing to the fellas in red, the Utes were leading weren't they? Thought so.

I like watching gameday just to laugh at the "experts." I recall Lou Holtz proclaiming Tulsa the best of the non bcs and a shoe in for a berth, then he switches his tune to boise, then applauds the Utes for their undefeated season and a bcs berth. Success of teams like Boise and Utah must haunt these fellas' dreams.
ABC, ESPN... it's all the same | 8:19 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Nothing changes here people. ESPN supported the BCS when it's parent company ABC had the contract and they will obviously continue to do the same when ESPN has the contract... the reason is because they're the same company

In all fairness to Max, Utah was still leading BYU when Max started to throw those "costly" interceptions in 4th quarter. Even without those interceptions, it will be a closer win by Utah --probably coming down to a FG by the King.
Re: Max @ 10:08PM | 9:03 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008

Wyoming defeated Tenn: ofcourse this is a classsic upset which can happen on any Sat. As a result, Wyo is now at 126 and not lower and Tenn is at 76 and not higher.
UCLA is some sort of "cake": UCLA won only 3 games. 1 vs Tenn --nothing worth mention here since we all know what kind of season Tenn had. 1 vs Washington State and Washington each --one won 2 games and the other is winless. The only decent win is against Standford. There is a reason why it's rank as low in Sagarin rating --which has no human factors in it so it's not error-prone like the human polls when they ranked BYU in the top 10 earlier in the season.
Sagarin has Utah, TCU, BYU at 8, 9 and 22. But look at the SOS --74, 80 and 91. BYU had its SOS in the 100s before playing Utah.

correction on my typo:

UCLA won 4 games --Tenn, Standford, WSU and UW

Wow, keep going with the talk Utes, obviously you have no one else to rub it in. If you watched the game, you would've noticed that the first two interceptions were on poorly run routes. Collie and Pitta were supposed to cut in up the middle, but instead they ran down the line and Max's throws were intercepted in the middle. The offense is an execution type of offense which means that if someone (or everyone) doesn't know what they're doing or running the wrong routes, then their game is bound to fail. If communication was better between the receivers and Max, he wouldn't have looked that bad. They should've stuck with what was working since the receivers and Max didn't know who was doing what. Max still would've had at least 2 turnovers, but the game would've been much closer. As for the BCS, Utah will get stomped on if they play someone from the SEC or Big 12. It'll be a sad day, but...thanks for the money!

I am a student at ASU and would say Rudy Carpenter is at least as good if not better than Hall, he just doesn't have the supporting cast. BYU has one of the best O lines in the nation, ASU has one of the worst. Switch them places and see what happens.

Hall showed his true colors last week against a real defense. He has to learn to make reads and go through progression, if Collie opts for the NFL, Chambers better step up or BYU is in for a miserable season.
BYU fans are in denial | 1:01 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
It makes me laugh to read comments about how Utah is now overrated and that BYU would have beat them if not for this.. or if that hadn't happened... "If"'s are just that: if's. The fact remains that Utah won the game fair and square and is going to it's SECOND BCS bowl game (BYU hasn't ever gotten there if I recall correctly) The cougars were overrated ALL year, if you can't admit that than you're blind. Good luck to BYU in it's bowl game it'd be good for the conference. I just wish that cougar fans good be happy for Utah and wish them well too. They should be happy we're making them some extra money. Utah may not be the best team in the country, but they will perform well in their bowl game. It'll be fun to watch either way.
Ouch! | 1:54 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Geez Pierce why don't you just rub salt into his wounds. Slow day in the cheap shot department?

I'm tired of gloating ute fans (which started after the TCU lost). Thanks for reinforcing my "sterotype" of pathetic, classless fans.
Re: Ouch! | 3:50 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008

Didn't Cougar fans do the same for the last 2 years when Utah lost to them?
Didn't Cougar fans talk about perfection and BCS even before the season started?

Can diss them out but can't take them, huh?
How pathetic!!!

byu got homered like TCU did with the MWC refs playing alongside the Utes...whatever...TCU is the real MWC champ!
Re: Gretzky | 7:24 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008

TCU is the real MWC champ?
When was the last time TCU won MWC?
Also, with the fact that TCU has to play 1 at home and 1 on the road versus BYU and Utah --I am predicting that TCU will probably never win MWC and will not make it to BCS.

Hahaha!!!!

Good observation Captain Obvious.

Go Utes
Ouch. | 8:42 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Ouch but absolutely true. In an even turnover margin game, BYU would have won pretty easily, even at Utah. I'm just afraid Utah's really going to embarrass us now in the bowl.

Utah was simply the better team and it wasn't even close in terms of talent. Collie is great, but Utah's speed on defense didn't give him anything long.
I've never watched a team go through an entire game without changing up any of their coverages, the way byu did. If you can't change up coverages in your secondary, you're just not very good.
Utah is better, but.... | 10:30 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Let's not get crazy about "difficult schedules." Utah and BYU played the same schedules except for 3 teams. BYU played NIU, Washington, and UCLA. Utah played Michigan, Weber State, and Oregon State. While the three teams that Utah played were better than those the cougars played, I wouldn't call it a significant difference. The only team of the bunch that was "good" was Oregon State (but they got torched by Penn State and lost to Stanford.)

I hope it's Utah vs. USC in a bowl game (not gonna happen-USC just got into the Rose Bowl.) I think that game would really show some speed on defense. BYU made bad decisions against Utah, and Utah did a great job of getting their hands up on the D-line to knock down passes. Watching the game, I wasn't all that cognizant that Utah had a lot of speed on defense - not like it was apparent when BYU played TCU. While I think that Utah would get schooled by USC, I would really love to see a Utah/Boise State BCS game (I've heard that it's a possibility in the Fiesta bowl.)

It is widely documented that BYU coaching staff was not prepared again. BYU has the talent, Utah has the coaches. It will never change so we may as well start writting about next year. Hall does repentance for 08 game...valiant effort, but wait a minute the OC did it again. Why he kept trying to pass the ball with 10 men in coverage. The Y only rushes 5 times for 158 yards. The coach say's " we didn't feel the run was there, so we took what they gave us. Oh and we want them to adjust to what we are doing". Play it again Sam.

Few Thoughts:

1. ESPN seems to be punishing the MWC,living outside of Utah, we hear very little about the conference when watching ESPN. This new deal will really hurt the conference.

2. Yes, defense does win championships, and BYU's has been questionable all year, especially in the secondary. Any offense with 24 points should--win!!

3. Hall didn't lose the Utah game, the whole team, they had their chances and didn't come through.

4. Scheduling: A team really has NO idea how good a team will be in 2 to 5 years when they are scheduled. Example, Vanderbilt who would of thought they could compete in the SEC?

5.Both sides U and Y need to remember, next year is a new ballgame and anything can happen. So don't get to caught up in pointing figures--either team can be up or down!! This year U was better, next year, who knows????

6. Finally, Good luck Utah. Make the conference proud and prove your win over the Y was an example of a "very good team" beating a good team. All those BCS teams above you have lost, except for Alabama and they may this weekend, you haven't!!!
Max was slow | 6:37 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
Max was about a second slow to get off every pass, so Utah had a tremendous advantage for their defense. I watched the passing plays very carefully, and the BYU receivers had to wait far too long for the ball to arrive. On the other side of the ball, the Ute receivers were met the ball as soon as they turned to receive it. Utah was awesome, and BYU needs to work on precision offense. And BYU needs to spread the ball around to 9 receivers, as evenly as possible. Max and Coach Anae need to work together on thses two goals. Good luck to both schools in their bowl games.
IF D Wins, Then Get One | 5:42 p.m. Dec. 2, 2008
Bronco is a big D man, so why can't he recruit any defensive players? Its like defensive players are none exsistent at the Y.
