I heard that Harvey Unga originally signed to Utah with Urban Meyer then decided not to. I bet he is kicking himself now unless he is as self-rightous as Hall and Collie. By the way on the Red Zone on Sunday night Whittingham said he is not going anywhere. Sorry Zoobs. The Ute football program will only continue to improve. I predict another BCS birth within the next three seasons. The TDS could also go to the BCS if they recruit a good defense.

How many players from BYU and Utah are currently playing in the NFL?

Does anyone know?

Former BYU players in NFL -???

Former Utah players in NFL - ???

Just curious....I had heard that BYU has over 4 times as many but that seems like a lot.

Re: NC Utah also has no chance of winning the NC as long as the BCS holds sway. You should have clearly seen that in 2004 and you will see it again this year. No team from the MWC will ever be ranked 1 or 2 under the present system. It's just set up that way. So BYU will continue to enjoy the 1984 championship and you will continue to never have that chance until we have a playoff system. Facts of life!

RE: NC | 7:46 p.m. Nov. 27, 2008
Championships! including MWC championships and National Championships.

Quote by NC:
This just goes to show how foolish the zoobs are. If you play for national championships then every season in history, except 84 has been a failure, and will continue to be one because unless you bust the bcs like utah has, you have NO chance, that is ZERO chance, NADA, ZILCH, ZERO, NONE, etc of EVER winning a national championship!

Hey NC... BYU has one already - where is yours??? So... welcome to the club of never having a chance to win one - even with a perfect season.

Yep, it's 2008 and we have a championship from 1984. What would the Utes like to "revert" to? Oh, that's right... a paycheck! Cool! Nobody ever gets one of those... right?

Congrats to the Utes! It's been said many times already. The Utes were the better team this year. A MWC championship, a BCS bowl game, a perfect season... they are all commenable accomplishments. What more would you like to hear? Utah is the best team in the nation each and every year??... even in 1984?
Kruger is still open | 7:49 p.m. Nov. 27, 2008
Just does have the same ring as Harline is still open. Oh that's right because harline stole your thunder as time expired were kruger did it during the game and did not score anything. Kruger will be man handled next year. Cougars win Guaranteed!
RE: The NIT | 7:53 p.m. Nov. 27, 2008
And you forgot that your colors are associated with the devil. No wonder you won the game, utah has sold it's soul. And your growing fan base, ya right...you can't produce a sellout week in and week out. The only time you do is when BYU comes to town.
Texas | 7:57 p.m. Nov. 27, 2008
Utah may have cancelled its game against Texas, but the Utes could easily play the 'Horns in a BCS game.

Would be very interesting.

BYU will never be able to compete nationally. You have to be able to go get fast, athletic DBS (especially corners) who can man up against the spread offense. BYU will never be able to draw that kind of athlete unless missionary work picks up and the church baptizes more brothers.

I'm telling you guys right now that we will win the national championchip next year. Whit does a great job of reloading and we will start next year ranked in the top 10 and after another 11-0 start we will be in the title game. I guarantee it!!! Just look what we did this year and after we win the BCS it will happen.
Go Utes!!!!

Not sure who is the biggest moron on here. The idiot ute fan posting as PROVO and posts moronic statements-----OR-------the idiot ute fan who really believed it was a cougar. Hey Provo, I thought you pathetic ute fans had some secret beer code that will allow the less intelligent ute fans to catch on to your tricky posts as Provo? Help your fellow pool hall member out.

So the football game is over and we can do nothing about it. BYU got handled thanks to the Max Hall turnover bonanza. But looking forward to hardwood version of the BYU utah rivalry sets up to be even less exciting than the football was. this comment will get shot down because everyone is high on the utah football team right now, but there isn't much that is impressive about a loss to southwest baptist and the Cougars have run every team out of the gym that they were supposed to. can't wait to see how the basketball games will turn out.
Earnust Bee Trout | 10:28 p.m. Nov. 27, 2008
Utah is the best team in America (as evidenced by our manhandling of Michigan in the Big House and CRUSHING TCU and Oregon State) and K Whitt will lead Utah to many, many national championships in the next ten years. Utah's players are speedy and superior to anything BYU can field. Even though BYU has more national championships than Utah, breaking the BCS twice and beating a miserable Pitt team more than makes up for no national championship.

Utah Mann | 11:14 p.m. Nov. 27, 2008
Obviously this so called "recruiting guru" has no idea what he is talking about. James Aiono is a FIVE STAR recruit!!!!!!! He is the top rated defensive end in the country and you have him listed as a TE and the 5 best recruit between bYu and the Utah. Come on, this guy is the first FIVE STAR recruit the MWC has ever seen. Give this kid the respect he deserves!!!!!!!!!!! Come on Harmon!!!!!!!!! You should know this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RE IOU | 11:31 p.m. Nov. 27, 2008
I also wish Utah had played Texas this year. The Utes would have been slapped soundly either at home or in Texas. As it was, Utah barely beat OSU at home, beat a horrible Michigan team (final record: 3-9, hey - even worse than the 84 team!) on the road. How on earth do you imagine Utah beating UT???

I really hope Utah draws a legit BCS oppoonent this time and is soundly beaten.

RE BYU, they will never escape from their current level, which is where they have been more or less for 30 years. Not enough talent in the players or the coaches. Biggest problem though is on coaching - not one of these guys will ever be recruited away!!

TD's-Edge Hall
Winning Percentage-Edge Hall
Career record as a starter against rival-edge Hall

Max Hall had one bad game but is still better than Johnson. BJ is a game manager. Max Hall wins games...see the above facts that prove he is better. Despite his performance against Utah, I wouldn't trade him for BJ anyday.

utah is on its way to 2nd BCS BOWL GAME.

BYU WILL NEVER MAKE IT...
James Aiono | 2:45 p.m. Nov. 28, 2008
Dick - do you check things before you print? James Aiono is a Strongside DE not a Tight End. He is also the highest rated prospect signed out of any Mtn West team to date and the #1 rated JUCO recruit out of the entire country. Interesting enough concept for an article, but you could have brought it a lot stronger. I won't bother pointing out the other inconsistencies since it has been covered already, but this seems like a weak, get it in so I can go eat at grandmother's house for Turkey.

Just checked CBS Sportsline and they have 18 former Utes listed as NFL players and 16 former Cougars listed as NFL players - so basically even.

Just out of curiousity I checked NBA players too:
Utah 3
BYU 0
Utah Valley State 1 (You gotta love Ronnie Price!!)
Wow | 4:17 p.m. Nov. 28, 2008
I like how BYU and Utah fans tie together their entire self esteem with their football team. BYU just got doubled up 6 days ago by Utah. Not a good time to talk about how pathetic Utah is and how they will get thumped in a BCS bowl. Wait at least until spring ball to talk smack. And Utah fans need to lay off the Kruger is still open thing...you're starting to sound like BYU fans.
Re: 1944 | 5:09 p.m. Nov. 28, 2008
Right on point. BYU fans really are like the middle aged guy who just lives for the state high school game 25 years ago. They just quite turn the corner and make that jump into reality. Hilarious!

BYU fans, your therapy session begins now...

Repeat after me..."we are incredibly mediocre and no one cares about us" Very good first step!
Region 1 fan | 5:40 p.m. Nov. 28, 2008
What a joke. Obviously this guy and Utah for that matter has never seen Washington actually play a game. He is the most lazy player I have ever seen. As a Utah fan, I am very disappointed in this selection.
Re: QB comparison | 1:45PM | 8:16 p.m. Nov. 28, 2008
Max threw 34 TD (UCLA, UW, NIA, etc) --none against TCU, Utah (top 15 and top 10 team)

BJ threw 24 TD --but 2 TD against OSU, 1 TD against TCU and 4 TD against BYU (top 15 and 2 top 20)

Max got frustrated (lost his head, lost his cool if he's ever had it to begin with) while played against good teams --TCU and Utah

BJ stepped up and directed his team to wins against OSU, TCU and big time in BYU.

Another stat: 12-0 (Sugar or Fiesta Bowl vs top 5 ranked team) versus 10-2 (Poinsettia Bowl vs 5th place in WAC)

So, think about it (hope you can), who is the better QB?

Been there done that?
Utah BCS 2...BYU BCS 0

Remember, 10 teams every year play in a BCS bowl.
Great achievemnt, in a crooked system. Something BYU has not done, yet. However,to equate 2 BCS bowl games with tradition and legacy is just goofy.

Hey Ute fan, let's explain why Utah will always be Tommy Smothers or Avis, in other words, looking up to BYU.

Do This! Then and only then will BYU be looking up at you, Ute fan.

Heisman Trophy BYU 1...Utah 0
National Championship BYU 1...Utah 0
Outland Trophies BYU 2...Utah 0
Doak Walker Award BYU 1...Utah 0
Davey O'Brien Awards BYU 4...Utah 0
Sammy Baugh Trophies BYU 7...Utah 0

Conference
Championships BYU 23..Utah 5
(since 1965)

8 game seasons don't count

National Coach BYU 3...Utah ?
of the year

NFL and Super Bowl
MVP

This is how trdition is built, over time, lots of time, at least a genration or more.
aj | 8:49 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Ask ESPN who has more National appeal?
I don't see ESPN trying to hook up Utah and Oklahoma in the new Cowboy stadium.
Check the National ratings when BYU plays vs when Utah does.
No comparison.
bj | 9:00 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Right on Anonymous!

Utah will never match BYU's Legacy, even if they wanted to, the "new system" won't allow any newcomers into the "Tradition Schools".

Nat. championship, heisman, other major awards, conference domination, star pro athletes etc..
are required.

Miami and BYU were the last to break in and there will be no more, and that includes Utah.

Right now out of 119 D-1 schools, maybe there are 10 or 15 which fit this category.
BYU and its football tradition | 9:40 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
College football has changed.Tradition is nice --historians love tradition and past records so they have something to write/talk about.
But, looking at tradition is like looking back.
Take a look at big schools with EXCEPTIONAL football tradition --MICHIGAN, NOTRE DAME, TENNESSEE, UCLA and where they are today.
You can look back and reminisce about 1984 championship and the past good players at BYU.
I will be looking forward to another BCS bowl and Utah keeping Coach Whit to build on these 2 BCS bowls.
1984 win over 6-5 Michigan to get the national championship was nice at the time.
BUT what has BYU done lately --in the last 24 years? Or since this century?
1984 is all you can have as long as Utah and TCU continue their recent football success.
RECUITS | 10:28 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Recuiting is a crap shoot at best. BYU Has signed some good high schoolers for next year but no one knows who will pan out. I know that a kid recuited from Utah lied about his fourty times and still got BYU to Bite. This kid isn't even the best defensive or offensive kid on his team, but because of his half truths told to the BYU coaches he receives a 4 year education. Also this same kid has not received clearence from his Bishop. As far as I can see BYU hasn't sone their homework and they just got slower by alowing this kid to lie his way on to the team.
Re: QB Comparison | 10:40 a.m. Nov. 29, 2008
Actually, head-to-head BJ has more yards, more touchdowns, and the same amount of wins as does Maxine. He also has a lot less turnovers. In fact, Maxine has 8 turnovers in two years against the U, compared to BJ's 2 against byu in the same span (both in 07).

It's easy to rack up the passing stats when your team is very dedicated to the passing game and only plays 3 teams with a winning record. How good are Maxine's stats against those 3 teams? About as good as his winning percentage (.333).
To Recruits | 12:52 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
I wouldn't worry about it. If the kid lied it will show at camp and the kid won't make it. It is very rare for schools to give 4 year scholarships anymore and they are on a year to year basis. If the kid isn't D1 he won't make it. Utah has one as well that won't make it. Washington from Northridge.
bj | 5:41 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008
What has BYU done lately? Or, since 1984?
Are you kidding?

Do you have any ability to do basic research? Oh I forgot you are a Ute, scholarship is not yur thing.

A few basic facts, BYU has won the Conference 13 times since '84. That's hardly resting on their 1984 laurels.

Utah's first Outright Conference Championship, in 40 years, came a whopping 4 years ago with another one this year.

Just since 2001 BYU has 3 Conference Championships to Utah's 2.

Since '84 Utah has 3 Championships to BYU's 13.
Get a clue.

And the defending champ the last two seasons, was who?

The only people constantly bringing up BYU's National Championship are Utah fans, because, they know it is something they will never attain. Very few schools ever have.

History shows however, that the legacy of BYU did not end there as Ute fan implies, it was the beginning.

Thankfully Utah is now competitive which makes the whole Conference that much better.

As for Michigan, UCLA, Notre Dame, Tennessee etc.. they are where Olahoma and BYU were for a few seasons. Tradition schools are never down for long,
they always reboot pretty quickly.

Re: bj | 7:14 p.m. Nov. 29, 2008

Since 2001, BYU and Utah each has had 3 conf. titles.

Since 2004, Utah has had 2 BCS bowls, BYU has still tried for the first.

I'm a Ute fan that's looking forward to next year. This year has been spectacular. Being part of the MUSS is a great experience. Seeing Rice-Eccles Stadium sold out every game this season (except Colorado State) is a nice sight to behold.

Hopefully next year, BYU is better than this season. Regardless, I'm expecting UTAH to beat BYU due to better defense.

Daily Credit | 9:30 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Dude your dreaming...utah last touch down will be remembered as BYU takes utah to the woodshed next year. Don't count on it. As BYU defense will whip on the u offense and Max will slice through utah swiss cheese defense.
not possible | 2:13 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
some bone head said that Utah could have been playing for the NC if they had kept Texas on their schedule and had upset them. Don't kid yourself. the BCS would NEVER allow a "mid-major" to play for the NC ever again after BYU won it in '84. they'd find some way to keep you out. keep dreaming.
