All-region football teams

All-region teams in Utah are a joke. In CA, they pick ONE player per position, so that means 22 total 1st teamers, plus a utility guy and a Punter and Kicker. Having 45 players on the first team is lame. I'm sure it won't change, but it just doesn't seem to have the lustre you would expect with being picked. Of course the region champs will have the most players on the first team, but the region should vote on each position. 1 QB, 2 RB's, 2 WR's, 1 TE, 5 OL, 1 All-Purpose, 1 Kicker. Same for the defensive positions.

Has all-region stuff always gone like this?

Tyler, if you don't like the Utah, feel free to leave. If you havn't figured out yet that Utah is not and never will be California...

All regions in California are a joke. Just kidding, I can see your point. At the same time, I don't see a problem with recognizing standouts in each region, but it would be nice to have an All-state 1st team as you suggest.

Any chance to praise our student athletes should be looked upon as a positive. These kids are faced with so much negative, and so many kids are content to sit on their behinds and play video games. It is important to praise as many of them for participating as we can. Who cares about California any way?

An All State team (and 2nd team etc.) as well. Man you guys are impatient!

and yes they have pretty much always done it this way.

Sometimes thing are not very realistic (last year's region 6 awards for instance) but this year they all seem to be about right.

I agree that all-region teams should perhaps be different. Having so many kids dilutes the team and makes it less special. Plus, since coaches get to choose a certain number of kids regardless of position, it is possible (and often likely since he is usually the best athlete on the team) that the starting QB from every team (regardless of performance) ends up 1st team all-region. I'm all for rewarding kids, but they need to earn it. We reward mediocrity too often in today's society. A starting QB on a bad team who is average at best should not be 1st team all-region just because his coach likes him.

I would love to see a region 1 All star team play a region 2 all star team. Any input on who would win anyone? I think with Alta, Jordan, and Skyline allstars the Layton, Davis, and Syracuse allstars would lose.

to anon @ 5:57 Well lets see here. I recall Skyline (who sucked by the way) shut out Layton. Care to debate that? I also recall Syracuse getting blown out like a middle school team. Care to debate that one? I saw Davis almost win, almost... Until Alta got their heads in the game, at which point Davis did absolutely nothing (except their band which was awesome). If we had some of Alta's and Skylines players with Jordan's line I can guarantee any region 1 team would get owned by them. Even better idea... Why don't we make county all star teams... How about SLC vs Davis vs Utah county...

I see SLC winning that one. And no I'm actually not from SLC. Utah county pretty much has an all star team already in timpview and I've seen them play. I think a Utah county all star team would have one or 2 from LP 2-4 from PG nobody from Lehi ha ha some from SF and the rest all TV. Even still I think a SLC team would win. That would be a team with players from Alta, Bingham, Jordan, Skyline, Riverton, and a few others. I don't see anyone beating that realisticaly.
