This is the kind of trash talking journalism that feeds unsportsmanlike conduct. Shame Brad Rock for continueing the trash talk.

Many Cougar fans are happy for the Utes because they had a great season. They were the better team in the game yesterday and many hope they will make the MWC proud in their BCS bowl game. I for one will be cheering them on in that game. I know several Utah fans that will likewise be cheering for the Cougars in their bowl game.

Classy journalism will feed the sporting aspect of this rivalry rather than the unsportsmanship parts.

As a fan, the BCS is getting old. I mean, once you've done it once, it's sorts of old. The back pain is difficult...not sure how much longer we can carry you, byU.
Great Game | 12:27 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Congrats to the UTES. Great game. Too bad all the Y-ners crying about Utah running up the score either weren't born or were in grade school when BYU was running up the score on other teams (70-13, 56-6 etc). It's not up to the Utah coaches to stop teh Utah offense, I think bYU's defense is supposed to do that! If you can't take teh heat get out of teh kitchen. Y-ner fansa re off to Las Vegas again!

Nice win Utah you just sent Coach Kyle to Florida. Coach U M is after his dream job at ND and Florida says bring on Kyle. He is a Million dollar Man now. See ya next year Cougars you should beat us by 40 in 09.
Disrespect.. | 12:48 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Doing the haka is not dissing anybody at utah. Its something BYU does as a team to pump them up. Get a clue johnson before you start talking like you dont know anything. That being said nice win utes, enjoy it while it lasts, because you guys lose your entire offense and byu doesnt lose much at all.
Mark in Peoria | 1:00 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Good article. Well, at this point they're all good since the Utes are 12 and Oh. Can't wait to see what Dick Harmon says...

Anyway, where will the Utes go?

Sugar?
My prediction: Alabama vs Cincy

Fiesta?
My prediction: Texas vs. USC

Rose?
My prediction: Penn State vs. Oregon State (Yawn, rematch)

Orange:
My prediction: Virginia Tech vs Utah

NC:
Florida vs Oklahoma

Out: Ohio State, Texas Tech, Mizzou, Georgia, Boise State, Boston College

As far as BYU, another 10 win season is nothing to cry about. Vegas bowl could be more intriging with possibly Oregon, Cal, or Arizona. I'm predicting Cal. Could be good.
Don't Dispair Cougers | 1:14 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
There's still a way into the BCS for BYU.

Simply put, every team in front of us loses 2 games each.

Then we get a rematch with the Uwets and we crush them in the Championship game for our second national championship in 25 years.
Kevin in the Terrace | 1:20 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
What I can't understand is why the Y was trying to throw the ball when the run was working so well? I mean every time they ran the ball the got first downs, every time they tried to throw it, it was either batted away at the line, or intercepted. Poor game plan by BYU.

Oh yes, the big time Utes with their HUGE 45000 seat stadium! Wow, big time program. Can't wait to see who this low budget team plays so I know who to root for!!!
Re: Disrespect | 1:29 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
There is a time and a place to do your "haka" dance and it's not on the opposing team's home turf. Maybe you should look at changing the haka to something else

By the way the Utes lose a few starters off the offense but we will replace them with quality personnel who have played a lot this year with great results as well. That is what a solid program is all about. You lose some but you replace them with quality. That is why Kyle has the Utes in prime position to dominate for years to come so get used to it!!!
The NIT | 1:35 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
You don't do that stupid "haka" dance in our stadium - go back to Provo with it. The players had every right to be upset.
A couple of thoughts... | 3:09 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Mark in Peoria.. what are you smoking? Alabama and Cincy? Get real!!! Alabama should beat Auburn next week and they will most likely play who? Hmm. Florida? Most likely.....

For those thinking that Myers would go to ND. think again. He has never jumped to a school with poor recruits. He has swept in and taken great recruits by the previous coaching staff and won... then bolted. Except for Florida. These are his players this year. Why would he leave a recruiting meccha for college football players? Doesn't make sense.

Don't predict Cal... for any bowl. They stink when it comes to bowl games. They never show up ready and get wiped all over the field no matter who they play. Same with Oregon.
Give Arizona a chance... They need a bowl somewhere!!! and you can use it as a PAC-10 vs MWC thing again... even though the UofA proved today that they can't stay with receivers and a good qb.
rvalens2 | 4:02 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Re; Disrespect

Sorry ... but when you do the Haka on another team's field. It's called show boating. And it is disrespectful.

Besides if a 48-24 loss doesn't get BYU pumped up for next year, then doing dance moves isn't going to make any difference.
BCS Hater | 4:08 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
The current prediction is Oklahoma vs. Florida in the BCS Championship game. I find it ironic that Ute fans have resigned themselves to the fact that two teams that will each have one loss will be playing for the Title Game. You should be outraged! Rock should be outraged!! You have fallen into the trap and if money is what's important one might suspect that Max Hall may be the smartest guy on the field for throwing 5 interceptions. In that way the Cougars get more money plain and simple.

I hope the Utes win and possibly some moral outrage occurs in the national media since the question will remain did the best team win the title. The BCS has already spoken that it will not be Utah even if they win their bowl game.

Obama says the system should be scuttled. May be the only thing I would support him doing.
Goal posts | 4:58 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I'm a delighted Ute. It's always nice to beat your rival. But I'm disappointed that Utes feel the need to storm the field and tear down goal posts. That's the kind of thing you do when you just put together the biggest game in years. This was an important game, but we've been there before. Bill Parcells used to berate his players who did an inordinate amount of celebrating after a touchdown: "act like you've been there before." I'd like my fellow Utes to think of that next time they think about pulling down the goal: act like Utah has beaten BYU before. If we go 10 years without beating them, maybe then we are justified in that kind of celebration. Or if we win a national championship. But a winning program needs to act like it, and that includes fans.
Poor jurnalism | 5:15 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Brad Rock loves to stir the pot. Utah probably would have lost the game had not Alex Hall had six turnovers. The Cougars proved they could move the ball against the Utes. How about the cheers from the Ute crowd when two BYU Cougars lay on the field with injuies near the end of the game. Am I the only one who noticed that? Great sportsmanship!
Thanks Mark | 5:48 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Good article, no trash talking, just celebrating a win!

I think USC is going to win out and Oregon will upset OSU, putting USC in the Rose.

Perhaps BYU needs to look at their own role in these incidents of poor sportsmanship rather than point the finger at others.

The haka is highschool. Stop it BYU, it incites fans and players

Congrats to the Utes and thanks for the BCS money. I was afraid of the lack of speed we had on Defense. It was evident but yet we could have still won the game. It was apparent that Pitta was not healthy. The amazing thing was how easy we ran the ball on Utah's great Defense. Should of done more of that but the past is 20/20. A healthy Pitta is critical to BYU's offense. It has been all year because with Pitta catching the ball that opens up everyone else. Utah better learn to stop the run if they want any chance of winning against the big boys.

re: a couple of thoughts.

You must have misunderstood my comments...or you just misunderstand college football in general.

My prediction was for the SUGAR BOWL not the SEC CHAMPIONSHIP. Of course Alabama will play Florida in the SEC championship---regardless if 'Bama beats Auburn or not...that was decided last week.

What isn't decided is who will be in the Sugar Bowl. The Sugar Bowl takes the SEC champ, so long as they are not in the BCS Champisionship game. I predict Bama will lose to Florida. That will vault the SEC Champ into the NC game. The sugar bowl will then take the SEC runner-up in Alabama. That is what they did last year after taking Georgia (LSU went to the championship).

My prediction then states that the Sugar bowl selection committee will take the Big-East champ over Utah because they will be gun shy after taking another non-BCS team (Hawaii) last year. Barring any upset vs Syracuse, Cincinnatti will be the Big-East champion.

So once again, My prediction for the SUGAR bowl isn't that crazy. If anything you should have questioned my picks for the Orange Bowl.

Anyway, a little research will go a long way, dude...
A few facts | 8:11 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Based on Sagarin ranking:

Utah #8 (SOS 73)
TCU #9 (80)
BSU #14 (118)
OSU #15 (20)
BYU #22 (91)

Utah: 1-0 vs top 10, 2-0 vs top 20, 3-0 vs top 30
Re: Bronco | 7:22am | 8:14 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008

Obviously, Utah offense still had problems --just as cougar fans pointed out the whole season.
Utah had the ball with 2:06 left and the score was 48-24. Utah could not score another TD --fire Ludwig.

LOL!!!
Utes outclass the classless | 8:52 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Hey "rooting against the Utes" nice comments. Attempting to degrade the superior team because their stadium is smaller? Then I guess Michigan or Tennesse should win? You should be rooting for Utah for bring all the money to the MWC. What do you care BYU can use tithing money from Ute fans and the world if they need it.
Before you rip on the school that Brigham Young actually started and more prophets attended rather than support the Boys academy in provo they named after him, bring a real critique.
UTAH's program has outclassed BYU's for years win or lose. Why else would a former BYU player/alum Kyle whittingham turn down the BYU job and more money to stay at UTAH? Because he has seen the inside of both programs.
As for your Large and Spacious stadium, we all know how it was built, read Jim Mcmahon's book to see how that program is run and builds big stadium. Every honest fan knows BYU did not deserve the national championship in 84 U of W and other teams with tougher schedules did. That Fiasco is the reason they created the BCS. But your solution is better bigger stadium wins.
Run on U's D | 9:09 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
BYU fans...Utah was in a pass defense all night and was very successful with it. They certainly had Hall's number. Had BYU gone to a running attack, Utah's D would have changed as well and shut down BYU just like they shut down Air Force.

Give it up already...BYU was out played, out coached, and out classed. That haka thing was as stupid a stunt as the "Quest for Perfection."

Repeat three times..."BYU 24 UTAH 48." You will feel better.
Re: Goal Posts | 9:20 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I get a little tired of hearing people/media define when it is acceptable to storm the field and tear down the goal posts. If fans wan to celebrate by storming the field then let them. If you would like to celebrate by sitting contentedly at home your welcome to do that. If I would like to celebrate by walking around my house while banging a pot yelling, "BCS! BCS!" then I suppose that is my right too. This is US America, my friend! USA! USA! GO UTES!
Attn Cougar Fans | 9:21 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
It always interested to hear Y fans comparing the stadium sitting capacity and larger fan base in Utah. It's almost like comparing apple to orange. BYU has build-in following because of its church affiliation (Isn't 80% of Utahn are LDS?) . I'm certain that Notre Dame has much much greater following across the country than BYU will ever dream of having. So the next time you start to boast about your fan base in Utah, Y fans, it probably make for sense for you to compare yours to Notre Dame to see how your religion based fans compare to theirs.

Why was Max Hall playing at all after 2 or 3 turnovers. I think anyone else on that team, or anyone else at BYU could have thrown better. Get rid of Max Hall!!!!
BYU's defense did pretty well, it was there offense... Max Hall, that allowed the touchdowns.
Way to go Utah!!

It is good to see Kyle be vindicated. He's had his share of criticism from his own fans and especially from the University he scorned to stay at Utah. I think he has handled the situation quite well and success just couldn't happen to a nicer guy. I remember Kyle's father Fred quite well and I just can't help thinking how proud he would be of his son.

Hey everyone let's look at reality. The only chance a Utah team has for a national title is Weber State.
That is the only true national title in college football. The other is only a money grubbing group asking for more money, just like the oil companies gouging the american people all summer. I for one hope Obama brings them all back to earth and make them face the music of Anti trust violations. God Bless America and the Democrats. Congrats UTES and WIldcats and go make Utah proud
Oregonian | 11:48 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Good win Utah. They had our number. Random thoughts:

1) I believe the Vegas Bowl isn't obligated to take the top available MWC team and could still pick BYU. Would they would take the higher ranked team (TCU) or the guaranteed sell-out (BYU)?

2) If Arizona beats ASU the PAC10 will only have 5 bowl-eligible teams. If OSU beats Oregon and USC beats UCLA, 2 PAC10 teams would go to the BCS (OSU & USC). That's leaves the Vegas Bowl without a PAC10 team. Does anyone know if the Vegas Bowl could get Boise State?

3) If Arizona beats ASU the PAC10 only has 5 bowl eligible teams. If OSU beats Oregon and USC beats UCLA, 2 PAC10 teams go to the BCS (OSU & USC). That leaves the Vegas Bowl without a PAC10 team. Does anyone know if the Vegas Bowl could get Boise State vs TCU or BYU?

4) Does anyone know the order of the BCS bowl picks? Best case scenario:
Rose: OSU / PSU
Fiesta: USC / Utah
Orange: Big12 #2 / Big East
Sugar: Alabama / ACC
BCS Championship: Florida / Big12 #1

Wake Up! | 12:10 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
When are the fans in this state going to wake up and realize that both BYU and Utah are great football teams?

As a Ute fan I hope BYU gets BSU in its bowl game wins convincingly.

Obviously, I hope the Utes do well in their bowl game.

Max Hall didn't play poorly last night because he woke up on the wrong side of the bed, failed to bring his "A" game, didn't concentrate, or "fell apart."

The Utah defense, on that particular evening, simply played better.

The Ute kick-off team, stellar all year, didn't lose it's concentration either -- Austin Collie is simply a good player and his blockers had a great scheme.

Unga played well, along with his line.

The Ute receivers played well, and Brian Johnson played brilliantly.

These are good football players, folks. Playing their guts out. Give them credit. Stop whining. Give props where props are due.

Funny thing, I noticed the players, on both sides, doing that last night.

But, the fans? Wow, you have to wonder sometimes.

Wake up -- and remember, it's only a game.

Oh, and BTW, Mr. Rock--the grounds people took down the goal posts, not the fans.

BYU "Haka" | 1:14 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
The "haka" that BYU performs is blatant disrespect to the people and culture of New Zealand. The haka is for rugby, not American football. Traditionally, the haka was performed as a war dance, to promote intimidation. Today, the haka is performed by "kiwi's" before a rugby match, to challenge and intimidate the opposing team. Other Pacific island nations have their own "haka's". Kiwis know and understand the importance and significance of the words and movements performed in the haka. Also, the haka is performed facing the opposing team. Rugby does not impose penalties relating to any of the Pacific island nations pre-match dances. Therefore, the haka is meant for rugby only. I doubt most of the BYU team understands these crucial aspects of Maori culture. Not being able to face an opponent while performing a haka undermines its purpose. It seems as if BYU is challenging and intimidating their fans, not the opposing team.
re Poor jurnalism and goal posts | 1:28 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Lets look at the celebration. The storming of the field last night was not due to beating BYU. It was an outright conf champ. and undefeated regular season, and ANOTHER bcs bid. Also, the goal posts were not ripped out by fans, they were taken down as a precaution, fans may have gotten a hold of them, but the people taking them down were stadium personnel. And I think we need to clarify the "cheering" when Reed and Unga were down. The chant was BCS, and it started before the players went down. If some of me fellow ute fans were cheering the injuries, then they should be ashamed of themselves, but from where I was sitting, I heard chants of BCS that whole drive.
Mark in Peoria | 1:31 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
re: Oregonian

good comments bro.

The order for at-large teams is as follows: Fiesta, Sugar, Orange.

The tie-ins are as follows:
Rose: PAC-10 champ vs Big-10 champ
Fiesta: Big-12 champ vs At-large
Sugaar: SEC champ vs at-large
Orange: ACC Champ vs At-large

Now, it so happens that the Big-East (many claim to be the weakest BCS conference---and with good reason) champ gets an automatic "at-large" birth and could be selected for any of the three above spots. Also if the conference "champ" is No.1 or No.2 in the BCS rankings they go to the NC game which frees up the "champ" spot at the bowl they would have gone to----often filled in by that conference's runner-up.

Most "insiders" have Utah going to the Sugar bowl. However, were USC to win the PAC-10 instead of Oregon State, that would put USC in the Rose Bowl and take them out of Fiesta consideration. Since the Fiesta bowl has first pick, they may elect to take Utah and pair them with the Big-12 runner-up (which I think would be bad).
haka | 3:30 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008

Future | 7:24 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
This was BYU's shot to make it to the BCS, yeah they still will have Unga, Collie and Hall but they will lose 4 Offensive Linemen, anytime you lose that many linemen it will be hard to win the next year. Utah will keep their line except Hensel (who did an amazing job on the TCU DLinemen) and Conley. THis makes Utah still a contender next year. Not to mention the returning defensive starters next year. Plus Utah will gain another Kruger. Even more chaos for Max Hall
To Future | 7:24 p.m. | 8:44 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Day Dreaming again, the utes will not contend next year, you'll be lucky to win a few games here and there, ending your season being crushed by BYU. You better concentrate on your bowl game because the crashing will begin that will lead into next years downfall.
Minnesota Ute | 9:08 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
To "rooting against Utes | 1:28 a.m."

Your comments are one of the main reasons many Ute fan dislike BYU fans. The BYU stadium pales in comparison to many others in BSC conferences. You may think big stadiums make winners but what goes on during the game on the field makes winners.

Finally, for those who think Utah ran the score up - what coach in their right mind would ask any player to give less than their best in order to make the other feel better about themselves and not score. It was not the Utah offence problem but the BYU defense. As for running up the score, I am sure those who criticized the Utes are the same ones who were happy with the score of the BYU UCLA game (59 - 0). I think it would be wise to think a little before you speak.

By the way "rooting against Utes | 1:28 a.m." I have seen most of the BYU games and have rooted for them except Saturday night (I will be RED until I die) and will be rooting for BYU in their bowl game. It may be time for you to grow up!
