Anyone who can provoke another coach into flipping him off from across the field by kicking an onside kick when his team is up by 40 points needs to work on his sportsmanship and get rid of vindictiveness and selfish pride. Too many players, coaches, and fans in the U program who don't give their opponents credit or respect after the game or during the rest of the year. Couldn't agree with you more.
U no class??? | 2:26 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Heres something to consider before saying the U has no class.

1. During the U's senior day ceremony BYU started the Haka- That doesn't even totally have to do with football that's person to person respect and BYU didn't have it.

2. Not a single personal foul from the Utes. Maxi just couldn't control himself yet again.

3.The whole Wyoming thing... I recall Glenn publicly promising a victory. While you might all call the onside kick classless, I think it was merely proving a point.

4. One last thing, wasn't it a BYU player that started attacking fans after the game? Thought so :)

Re: respect in rivalry
I've lived near the U all my life and been around this rivalry every year for 50 years. For the most part I think Coach Whittingham runs a good program and is a class act. Along with Urban Meyer he is responsible for bringing the program to a level where it's never really been before. I do agree, however, that he has gotten caught up in the "culture" of the U at times and he seems to promote, within his coaching staff and players, a level of disrespect, especially for BYU, that I don't understand. "Back in the day", let's not forget, BYU really stunk at football and then along came Coach Edwards. The fact that the BYU program grew into the success that it did, with the help of the Whittinghams no less, was at least in part what pushed the improvements seen of late at the U. In a perfect world, outside of the crazy and sick "culture" that exists at the U, both schools would have a high level of respect for each other and the rivalry that "should" make this game so much fun but unfortunately doesn't for many of us.

Hahahahahahahahahahahah! Hey Cougs, take your boy Dick "Cougar Club Lifer" Harmon down to the Vegas Bowl, eat your crow, and shut up! You lost, wait, you got destroyed, again by a good team. BYU is the school bully who picks on the weak, and gets ripped apart when they try to pick on someone their own size. Your quest was blown up by TCU and the Utes. I don't want to hear any of your excuses downplaying the quest. The Utes now have 2 trips to the BCS, you have none. Have a good time in Vegas, again. I'd say put some money down on BYU's "Quest For Perfection 2009" but we all know your Cougs can't do what the Utes just did again; man up, shut your mouth, play the games, and win! UNDEFEATED.....BCS..BCS..BCS.
Rivalry, fan behavior.. | 11:45 a.m. Nov. 25, 2008
Some of you claim to be familiar with rivalry and fan behavior. You are not familiar with other parts of the world where walking down the wrong street with the wrong colors on the wrong day will get you KILLED. We have not yet descended to that level.

I do not mean to imply or say that this behavior is good or proper. This is evidence of a decaying moral fiber among the people. We are more violent, rash, and uncaring about others than in times past. I won't bore you with my estimation of why this is, just know that it is, and it's getting worse. The moral fiber of society as a whole is wearing very thin.
RE: BYU a pretender in 2008 | 12:33 p.m. Nov. 25, 2008
BYU pretender in 2008, I think you should pay more attention to college football. You say "Top 15 teams don't get pounded the way BYU did against TCU and Utah". Did you watch #2 Texas Tech loose by 40 something points to #5 Oklahoma Saturday. What about when USC crushed Oklahoma a few years ago in the national title game and Florida annihilating Ohio State in the title game a couple years ago. It happens a lot actually.
TCU - what should have been | 12:45 p.m. Nov. 25, 2008
Everyone pretty much knows that - after all the whining and jeering - TCU is the best MWC team this year. Utah and BYU had good seasons, but it's TCU that I'd like to see in a BCS game.
RE: Pretender response@12:33 | 12:48 p.m. Nov. 25, 2008
Exactly. Fans on both sides of this rivalry get so eager to put down the other team, they forget their basic College Football 101: Any ranked team can lose to any other ranked team by any margin. (As if the rankings were rocket science to begin with--more semi-informed popularity contests, really.) So yes, original "Pretender"--stay informed about college football so you don't embarrass yourself.
Re: TCU @12:45 | 12:58 p.m. Nov. 25, 2008
Hm. By "everyone," I assume you mean "You." If TCU is better than Utah and deserves to be in the BCS more than the Utes--WHY DIDN'T THE FROGS WIN THE DARN GAME?

That's why they get those 22 guys plus refs down there on the grass, man. You win games down there--not by talking absurd smack on these boards.
Short Memory Fans | 3:38 p.m. Nov. 25, 2008
Booger made the comment that Boise State beat Utah when he fails to remember the 50-12 beating the Broncos bestowed upon BYU in 2003. Still living off a win over Miami from 18 years ago? Kansas State was a good team but a "top ranked" team. I guess top 20. Looks like that one has supported you for 10+ years. I am surprised that you did not mention the "National Championship" win against unranked Michigan.
Hawaii | 8:44 p.m. Nov. 25, 2008
All of the sour Cougar fans saying Utah will be the next Hawaii, I have one question for you? How many BCS games have you been to? That's one less than Hawaii, and two less than the Utes. Now, go back to your room to pout, little brother.

Wow, BYU is 1-20 against ranked teams in recent years? That's really awful."

While I trust the reporter can add correctly, can anyone tell me just how far back we're looking here?

And, to be fair, what is Utah's record in their last 21 ranked games? And, how far back do their 21 games go?

I agree that BYU's 1-20 record is pathetic but I'd like some more info on that stat if anyone knows it.
You're Kidding, Right?????? | 3:44 p.m. Nov. 26, 2008
"To: Embarrassed Utah faculty | 8:47 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008 - I'm sorry that you don't understand the concept that BYU fans do not belong in Utah season ticket holder seats whether they are well behaved or not. You were asking for trouble. If you are going to try something like that again it's probably best that you don't come to any more sporting events...plus we won't have to read your complaint."

You're kidding, right? You actually think that this kind of offensive behavior is justified just because of where this guy's dad was sitting???????

If so, please tell me where you live so I can avoid you.

Did you ever stop and think that maybe the faculty member's dad couldn't get tickets in the BYU fan section?

Or maybe he just wanted to enjoy a friendly rivalry game with his son and sit together? (Heaven forbid!)

But no, he sits with his son in the U section and therefore deserves the hatred and vile he received.

What an incredibly pathetic excuse!

I'm a dyed in the wool Cougar fan and I'll tell what I think of Utah football: love the team, hate their fans.

Fans like you is why....

RE: Hawaii | 3:51 p.m. Nov. 26, 2008
Nah--the 2008 Utes will be just fine in the BCS, and this coming from a guy who cheers for the Cougs. The Bows wilted last year because aside from Boise State they hadn't played anyone TRULY tough before Georgia and because they're a horrible road team--get 'em off the islands and they usually forget how to play the game. The Bows were lucky to win the away games they did in 2007.

NO WAY ON EARTH the Utes lay an egg like Hawaii did--they're solid at home and away. Not saying they'll WIN their BCS game--but they wouldn't make utter fools of themselves, either. They'll have a good shot to beat whoever they play--even the Sooners (scariest team out there), should it come to that. No guaranteed win--but they'll match up well.

No sour grapes here!

"RE:Embarrased Utah Faculty | 12:27 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Pleaaaassseee!!! Are you trying to make us believe that you are actually a Prof at the U. C'mon Cougars...Knock it off with this silliness. Its a RIVALRY GAME...and YES...the U takes NO PRISONERS...FANS FROM BOTH SIDES PROVOKE...NOT ONE SIDED...I SAT BY A TON OF Y FANS BEHIND ME and oh my gosh...Nothing happened...I find that VERY HARD TO BELIEVE YOU ARE A PROFESSOR...Give me a break...EVERYONE GROW UP!!! ITS A RIVALRY GAME!!! If you don't expect stupid things to happen, then get out of your FANTASY WORLD"

To the Ute fan trying to defend classless behavior:

you're a fool who consistently sets low standards for yourself and usually achieves them.
Re: BleedCougarBlue | 6:31 p.m. Nov. 26, 2008
Two thoughts for you:

1) If you're a Ute troll just trying to make "BYU fans" look stupid, good one--but some of them have beat you to the punch. Fresh material, pal, please.

2) If you REALLY wear blue, I hope you think about your post the VERY next time you sing "I'm Trying to be Like Jesus."

Whichever's the case, it's no wonder people make fun of so-called "BYU fans." The ones who REALLY say things like this--and MEAN it--are disgraceful hypocrites.
