Nice to know "Jared" was in attendence.

Anywho, what a great list of seniors. They'll be in serious reload mode next year...But next year won't happen until after the BCS bowl!

I'm oing out on a limb and saying Utah will be picked last by the Orange bowl and play Virgina Tech. If so, the Utes will have a serious chance of winning another BCS game!

I very glad to hear that Nai didn't have any structural damage to his knee.

"Am I going to leave? No. No. I love it here," Whittingham told The Daily Utah Chronicle.

I for one want to believe coach Whittingham. But BIG money and guaranteed contracts are hard to turn down, even for someone as loyal as Kyle.

Let's all hope he stays. There are going to be a lot of big name programs looking for a new coach over the next month.

Haka hulabalu | 5:59 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I wasn't aware that the home team has the right to dictate what an opponent may not do during warmups.

It could have been the Ute's best defensive play to take on the dreaded Haka. Once a team Hakas on you, how do you get the momentum back?
Good article | 6:53 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Thanks Deseret News. Any of those bowls sound good to me. Go Utes!
What Hulabalu | 7:58 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I for one that it was great that the UTE's took matter into their own hands and shut down this stupid act. If the Little Cougers what to do it in Provo, Fine. In our house NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!
Coug Fan | 8:56 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I'd love to see the U play Florida, we'd see 2 coaches who love the run up a score play each other.

My guess is that if the U does play Florida, Ute fans will come to hate Urban. (Really, he has lost all class). If the BCS could go away, maybe Urban would stop running up the score on teams (like the Citadel) to get votes in the polls.

Nonetheless, I will be cheering for the Utes and all other MWC teams come bowl time.
Penalty | 8:56 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Utah should have been penalized for crossing the field in the pregame, confronting BYU and almost starting a brawl. They had no business being over there. It's not about whose place it is, it's about whose sideline it it.
THE FACIAL:) | 9:01 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Have you seen a bigger facial in this long heated rivalry. BYU's pride and arrogance gets the best of them and they come up with some lame "Quest for Perfection" quote. Nice job Whit on being humble and enduring all the mindless Cougar talk at the beginning of the season. Utes showed how to walk the walk, not just talk the talk, which is BYU's specialty, always has been.

Max Hall always seems to falter in BIG moments and yesterday was no exception. Thanks Maxie.

The ONLY "playas" for BYU was Unga and Collie but that has been the case all year. BYU defense continues to be a liability because it relies on the strength of fireside speakers rather than football players.

Congrats Utes, to the victor the spoils!!!!

Big Props to Whit for humbly showing those in Provo how men of dignity and class win. Action not talk-best of luck Utes!!!!
BCS Mayhem | 9:11 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I'd love to see the following happen:

Big 12:

Finish the season with a 3-way tie in the Big 12 South, and have Texas go the championship, leaving OK and TT upset.

Missouri loses to Kansas (3-loss team) and then wins the Big 12 championship game.

SEC: Alabama loses to Auburn and then beats Florida, leaving Penn St, 'Bama, USC, TT, and OK (and the U) all with legitimate claims on a title match. (But wait, USC, OK and TT did not even win their conference championship!)

ACC: BC, GT, and FSU lose their last game leaving up to 7 teams with matching 8-4 records at the top--6 of which would have matching 5-3 records in conference play!

Big Least: Continue to knock each other out of the top 25.

BCS bowls: Dream scenario: All 5 games are absolute blowouts (to the tune of 59-0) with horrible matchups (not unlike USC v Illinois or Florida v Ohio St in the past).
"Best interest of the BCS" | 9:40 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
There are only 2 options that are in the "Best interest of the BCS" when it comes to the Utes:

1. Completely overmatch them by having them play Florida or an SEC opponent. Not unlike last year with Hawaii, and hope for a blowout, proving that the BCS should only include 6 conferences (* and Notre Dame of course).

2. Have them play the Big East Champion (or ACC champ this year). Cincinnatti here we come! (The lowest possible ranked BCS team.) This would put the Utes in the everything-to-lose position. And a win would register a 2/10 on the "so-what" meter.

I'd love to see the MWC well-represented here, but I don't think that it would be...."in the best interest of the BCS."

That said, enjoy your 2 weeks of contentment.

Haka....Haka.....Haka.......Chooooo.

Gesundheit CUBERS.

Gee that felt good.

Thanks to the Utes for the great performance.

Thanks to the CUBERS for being the unwilling victim.

What an emotinal game. Loved it.

Bring on..............whomever.

U got to love it.................
Ernest T. Bass | 10:00 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
BYU is the one fanbase in all of college football who has absolutly NO right to complain about running up the score.
Ute fan | 10:31 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
penalty, you are why many Ute fans call your fans Zoobs.

If the BYU are going to show disrespect with that silly Haka dance before each and every game, they then shouldn't get bent out of shape when they get a reaction. They had a similar reaction by an Oregon player during a pep rally before the Las Vegas bowl aa few years ago too. If Bronco had any class at all he would put a stop to the Haka.
Henry Drummond | 11:41 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
It is time to drop the Haka dance thing. It is seen as a taunt by other teams and has nothing to do with Utah or Mormon culture. Save the dance for the locker room if you need it to get pumped up. Doing it in someone else's stadium shows poor taste. Instead of treating the rest of us to continual lectures about your "higher standards" and superior "character", how about showing us a little by dropping this offensive practice.
BCS Big East | 11:46 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Utah will win another BCS game if they get some lousy Big East or ACC team again. Utah, BYU, TCU, Air Fore and even UNLV could beat any team in the Big Least. I hope the BCS doesn't throw another cupcake at the Utes. Beating Pitt was no big accomplishment. They were horrible and a joke. I want to see the Utes get matched up against an SEC or Big 12 team and see how they manage.

I'm a Cougar fan and these BYU fans whining about the score should shut up. It was our team's job to stop Utah and we stunk.
Ignorance is not an option | 12:15 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Mr Ute fan, before you insult the Haka with your silly words, which reveal you as a racial bigot toward Pacific Island cultures you need to know that the "Haka" in its many forms are dear and honorable to many players on both teams. It is a reveranced form of respect to anothers foe, letting them know that they are here to stand bravely and will do all they can to be victors. Mr. Ute the game belongs to the players and is there individual contest, you are a mere spectator...
Anonymous | 12:51 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
About the Haka, those who were not in attendance should know the disrespect really came was the fact they started during a Senior acknowledgment ceremony. BYU tried to disrespect the Utah seniors and during the game BYU showed no class with Max Hall acting like a brat during his interceptions or the end when the BYU players took swipes at Utah fans.
congrats | 12:59 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
congrats to utah going to the bcs once again. byu will never make it.

congrats to byu on making your conquest to 3rd place in a mediocre conference and qualifying for the blue rug bowl.
Keep Haka To Yourself | 1:00 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
If you little Kewgs want to do the Haka then do it in Provo or in the locker room. Don't be disrespecting our turf and do that silly dance. It looks like Hall choked again in a big game just like he did against TCU. Don't blame the coaches. Hall is not that good of a QB. He has no leadership skills. If he did then he would have risen to the occasion in both games, but instead wound up embarrasing himself and so did the kewgs matador defense. BYU was completely over-rated this season. No wonder Washington should have beaten them, not "upset" them.
Haka | 1:11 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
The Haka is relevant to how it is perceived, not only on it's meaning to those who do it. There is a time and place for it. To do the Haka, then get your butt handed to you is disgraceful. I for one are glad BYU did not do it.
haha | 1:35 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I love the endless claims of running up the score. That last drive started with 8 minutes left, and byu couldn't stop em. Not Whit's fault. If Utah wanted to run up the score, they could have returned that last int for more than half a yard, I would have liked it. We were a td away from the same margin as the 52-21 whopping. I think the Utes will represent us well in the BCS!
TC | 2:21 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
First, most importantly, congrats to the Utes. Conference champs, perfect season, and on their way to a big-time bowl game. But c'mon, Cougar fans don't care whether you beat us by 60 or 1. You beat us, and you were clearly the better team this year. It stuns me that fans are so concerned with a "dance?" Utah has the respect of every BYU player, coach, and most of the BYU fans (it should be all... but, BYU has just as many dork fans as any other college football team.)

It's strange that there are so many Ute fans that don't want to give BYU respect. The cougars are 10-2! Without a record like that, a Ute win over the cougars wouldn't mean much. But, you beat an excellent team and now you are rewarded for doing so. If you hadn't beat good teams like TCU, BYU, Oregon State, and even Michigan... the Utes wouldn't be on their way to a BCS bowl game. Tearing down your opponents only hurts Utah by, in essence, saying you didn't beat anybody. You did... defeated defending MWC champ, leader in the PAC-10, and a traditional powerhouse.

BYU Classless | 3:09 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
BYU has had a good season. 10 and 2 isn't bad.

The Utes had a GREAT season.

Doing the Mcaca dance on someone else's field when seniors are being honored is CLASSLESS! It would be like a Ute stomping on the Y in Provo.

The conference should prohibit the Y from doing that kind of provocative crap away from home.
washcomom | 5:00 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Congrats to the Utes for an amazing ending to a storybook season. Keep it BOWLing! Good luck Seniors!

(Frankly - there is too much testosterone getting worked up for small matters. To those out there who want to trash another - you have totally forgotten your upbringing. Watch out! Here it comes again!)
RC | 5:30 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
As a loyal Cougar fan it hurt to see my team turn a close game into a 6 turnover nightmare. But that aside, unlike many Ute fans who always root against BYU, I'll be cheering for Utah to smack the heck out of whomever they play. And if there was some way for them to play for the championship say versus Alabama or Florida--how cool would that be? And great for all MWC teams. After all, besides Alabama they are the ONLY serious contender who is still undefeated.
BYU Fan | 9:02 a.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Congratulations to Utah on the win. Now go on to win out with a big bowl game. I hope you get a decent opponenet this time around. If they pull another "Pitt" just beat them the same way. I know the BSC (yes, I know it's BCS) is afraid to give you a decent opponent because they are afraid you'll win. Good luck the rest of the season.

Basketball note: Who is South Dakota? I'm a bit surprised because I thought you'd be pretty decent in basketball also. What is going on with the team? Do you have some injuries? I don't know because I don't follow it closely. However, there could be some reason and I wouldn't know if this is a rebuilding year. Congratulations and good luck.. Now go make the MWC proud!

"Am I going to leave? No. No. I love it here"
--Kyle Whittingham

Just because he's not looking elsewhere doesn't mean you don't have to pay him. Last year's injury depleted 9-4 team, followed up by this year's 12-0 BCS Buster II team WARRANTS recognition for outstanding coaching. So pony up!

Thanks Kyle!

Best case scenerio: | 8:07 a.m. Nov. 25, 2008
Utah won't get a shot at the Nat'l Championship game this year. Too much has to happen, if even if it did, I'm sure the BCS would still find a way to keep a mid-major out. So, for the purpose of realistic expectations, let's just please drop the "road to the NC" speculations.

The Utes have earned a quality opponent. We do NOT want to see an ACC or Big [L]East opponent. Those two conferences haven't earned the honor of facing a representative of the MWC in the post season.

We do NOT want to face Florida either. A good team does not shy away from competition and hope to play No. Iowa in a bowl game. If we face FL in the Sugar Bowl they will be an 11-2 team at best, and likely ranked below us. However, if we faced Alabama, we could see a 12-1 team ranked higher than FL would have been had they lost in the SEC title game.
