The bottom line is BYU is a very Distant 3rd in the MT West and a distant 2nd in the WAC. However, Utah will end up playing a very weak Big East team again and prove nothing, TCU will be the best team they played and TCU would be favored to win if they played again. But there will be a big pay day for the Utes!!!!

Way to go UTES! I wonder how Mr. Harmon is going to explain this woooping!! his wonderful Courgar's took. The best thing he could do is write a Utah State Story and stay away from real football.
Good luck UTES and Courgar's. The MWC is getting close to competing with all the big boys now. They have a way to go, but progress is coming.

This is all well and good but where do the Utes get off stealing the Hook 'em horns hand sign from Texas. I think that might be a copyright violation. Ask anyone outside of Utah and they will tell you that you are refering to Texas and not Utah when you make that sign. I have even seen BYU fans give it upside down like Texas Aggies do. Get your own sign before you lose to Texas in the BSC.

It has been fun reading many of these posts. I find it funny the way BYU fans try to cling on to a 1984 win over a 6 and 5 Michigan team to claim that they are in some way still better than Utah. I hear comments like, "yeah we're still 2 of 3," or "have fun getting smashed in the BCS." What sore losers. Utah demolished BYU. BYU was exposed for the second time this year. It really wasn't their year. They need to get over it and pay respect where respect is due. Maybe next year they'll get us. But for now, Ute fans can live it up, because they're team showed heard, and they earned it.

As a cougar fan I'm embarrassed by our idiot fans that are complaining about Whittingham running up the score or that the BCS is no big deal. We got sucked into a stuipid "quest for perfection" theme that was just downright idiotic by Mendenhall. Give it up to the Utes. They kicked our butts and good luck in your BCS game. I guess we got another lousy trip to Vegas that no one cares about. But, fellow BYU fans, show some class and quit your stupid whining. That's one of the reasons were hated so much.
RE: Welcome to the 21st Century | 7:06 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
"Boise State is much more recognized than the Utes as BCS busting...P.S. How is Alex Smith doing? You know the QB from the BCS bowl in 2004. "

LOL!! Man you are one fine homer!!

Have you checked the history books? In the 21 century Utah in BSC 2-0 Boise 1-0 and TDS 0-0. Go back to 84 and keep dreaming that team would even be ranked in the top 5 today.

"I honestly don't get what the excitement is about the BCS"

That's because you've never been there.

Facts: Utah 48 BYU 24.

More facts: Hall - 5 int. 1 Fumble and there could have been 3-4 more int but they were dropped.

Fact: Phrases of "Collie 4:18" and "Harline still open" destroyed forever. Replace with "Kruger, Johnson, Smith and U defense still open - Max.

Fact: Phil Steele called it again just like he did in 2004. Listen to Steele in the future.

Fact: Utah 12-0 and going BCS bowling for the second time with the MWC championship completely theirs.

Fact: SOME BYU fans making excuses and falling back to past is embarassing. Fortunately my friends and family are not doing that and remain honorable and thereby, garner respect from me at least.

Fact: Both teams returning some great players next year and they will play another exciting game at LES-BYU.

Fact: College football is an awesome game and in my opinion the ultimate game...but it is just a game and shouldn't compromise our relationship with friends or family or respectful strangers.

FAct: Predictions and History make no difference in the present..and right now UTAH ruled the field.

GO UTES...KICK BUTT IN THE BCS BOWL GAME.

"I travel 100% of the time for my job also and deal with executives of corporations who follow college sports and I have yet to hear a comment about the Utes until the last few weeks (AFTER BYU LOST TO TCU!!)"

Are the executives in the auto and financial industry?!? That's because like BYU fans they have no clue about football or economics.
Get a Clue | 7:20 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
"BYU's players actually came to play, it was the coaches who were out coached."

I think your right Max Hall and the Y defence were the best I've seen in years!!!

Just face it the better program won, the Y has been a better team since 2004 and what do they have to show for it? 2-1 agains weak Ute teams on last second drives and the Vegas Bowl.
Re: BCS? 12:05 am | 7:21 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I'll tell you what the excitement is about...

If BYU was going to the BCS, it would be the greatest thing since sliced bread and YOU and your BYU buddies would be saying it. You are jealous...admit it and move on to your whatever bowl.
Measurements of Class | 7:29 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Some fans on both sides are classless. However, if I were BYU I would be ashamed by a quarterback who lost his head and got a ridiculous personal foul.
I would be ashamed by players who, in an attempt to equate their personal spirituality to a college football game, embarrass their religion and alienate those inside and outside of the church.

There are going to be whack job fans on both sides but you should measure class by the actions and words of team leaders.
So much for BYU | 7:30 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
All I have to say is 48 to 24. I loved Broncos comment "It would have been a different game without the turnovers" Well the Mighty UTE defense is what forced the turnovers, and the Might UTE offence pushed it into the end zone. Thats Utah Football. Oh yah and dont ever do that stupid dance in our house again. GO UTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To Fan: the BCS is not set up this year for the UTES to face a big east team. at worse is will be an ACC team
RE: 84 Champs | 7:57 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I disagree with your notion that the 84 team would have been in the national championship based on their number 1 ranking. At that point and time only a few people paid much attention to the strength of schedule. It was only when BYU won the title that people began scatching their heads. Based on what you have said, Utah should be ranked 2nd in the country, Boise State 3rd, and Ball State 4th. Had the BCS system been in place in 84, BYU's strength of schedule would have did them in. They never beat a team that finished in the top 25 that year.

I don't exactly remember Lavell Edwards Stadium filled to capicity during the Crowton years!!

time to trash the 3- whatever defense that BYU tries to run. Bad coaching in a bad defense
Bama Cougar | 8:08 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I hope the Utes go to the Sugar Bowl. As a BYU Grad who is from and lives in the South, I can't say without hesitation that either Alabama or Florida will destroy you (see: Georgia v. Hawaii last year). And no, you're no better than that Hawaii team that's still getting scraped off the turf in the Superdome. You're beatdown invite has arrived.

DennyG | 8:08 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
The single most excellent thing I hear from Booger fans. "Wait until next year". I've been hearing it for 30 years now. So sweet.
go utes.
Poor Sports | 8:13 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
The saddest part of this game was the unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of a few cougar players. Very embarassing and ruined what could have been a respectable game by all the other cougar team members. BYU's reputation outside of Provo is one of cheap shots and whining and tonight, I think that reputation was earned.

The Utes looked poised and under control. That was the difference. They didn't get flustered and make a lot of mistakes and they won big. Congrats to them for playing a great game and staying respectable.
CRBURB | 8:15 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
The Orange bowl picks last because they get the BCS champ game also. It is the only game right now that looks absolutely set and it is the ACC champ against the Big East Champ. The Rose is probably set also with Penn State vs either Oregon State or USC. The Fiesta and Sugar are the bowls that Utah would go to. The Sugar picks first and if Oregon State goes to the Rose then the Sugar will pick between USC and Utah to play probably the SEC runner up. They likely will pick USC which will place Utah in the Fiesta aginst The Big 12 runner up (either Texas or Oklahoma probably). Lots can change but Utah is guaranteed to get a top 5 team as an opponent. No Pittsburg this year. What a tough game but that is what great fans and players want is to play the best. BYU decided well before the season that they didn't want to play the best they just wanted to try to be undefeated. Well they got neither and will probably watch the LV bowl on TV also.
Gary Colorado | 8:18 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Be thankful if you missed the mtn's telecast. The only way it could have been worse would have been to have Bates & Christensen (sp?) do the game.
Michaelitos | 8:21 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I'm really proud of the few BYU Kitten fans that have enough class to recognize a beating. If the tables were reversed, I hope I would be able to show some respect, too.

Still, the volume of not just sad, but jealous posts makes kicking the Kitten trash all that much more sweet.

Go Utes (all the way to the BCS)!!!
Fire Ludwig | 8:22 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008

Just as cougar fans have been pointing out all season, Utah offense still had problems last night. With 2:06 min left, Utah had the ball and could not score another point. Fire Ludwig!!!!

CRBURB | 8:29 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
You want to read a great article? Read the USAToday article on Utah (there are two on the front page of the sports section). This is what the nation thinks of Utah. They call it head and shoulders the top non-BCS program in the country and give their stats to back that up. Great pub of the Utes. The BYU fans can talk to themselves all they want but they haven't done it on the field. They are in the class with Central Michigan who also won two conf champs in a row the last two years and were spanked by an undefeated conference foe. I'll bet you didn't know C. Mich was the two time reigning MAC champ, Like the MWC, nobody cares. Utah has been and now is even more classed with the big boys. BYU is the Central Michigan of the MWC. Just the facts mam. The BYU program has returned to their legacy. Beat nothing teams and lose every year to the only two tough guys you play. That's their tradition and it will continue for another year while your buddies up north continue to destroy BCS and ranked competition.
Fun trivia questions | 8:29 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008

When was the last time, BYU was 12-0?

When was the last time, BYU was 12-0 after going 12-0 four years earlier?

.....I thought so.

I just have two words to say: GO UTES!!!
I saw max hall after the game | 8:34 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
And he's STILL throwing interceptions.... What a game. 12-0 = perfection. Here is another stat 2-0 thats 2 BCS bids for the Utes and 0 for the cougs. Got BCS Envy? I dont want to hear about your national championship year either. Everyone knows if the BCS was around then you wouldnt have had that championship.

Heres for the previous poster

Go Utes
Re: Measurements of Class | 8:37 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I am a non-LDS person but I lived in Utah for many years before moving to SoCal. And I am a UtahFan.

It seems you think BYU football team qualify to represent the Church. Why? BYU sport teams are just that --sport teams. THEY DON'T (and SHOULDN'T) represent the Church nor the religion. They may be LDS members --and there are good as well as bad members. The Church is represented by much higher qualified individuals.
We are better served by leaving religion off sports.

(BTW, as a supporter of "Yes on 8", I thank the Church for contribution to our victory. I look and hope for continued support as our group will need more to fight those stubborn "No on 8")

Random Thanks | 8:46 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
In this time of Thanksgiving BYU should be thankful for:
1. The nice check courtesy of the BCS busting Utes.
2. The fact that there is no chance of having to play in the Armed Forces Bowl courtest of the BCS Busting Utes
3. Regardless of who you rout for it has been a great year for college football in Utah, except for Utah State

Blue turning Red | 8:48 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
How many "fence sitting" Cougar fans will come back to Red as they did back in 2004?
Mountain Coverage | 8:49 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I have no idea how the Mountain would let Blaine Fowler be the commentator on the game when his son starts for BYU. It's one thing to have a BYU alum but when your flesh and blood is on the field? Come on Mountain we can't take that seriously. Thoughts?
BCS National Championship Game | 8:49 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Utah still has an outside shot at getting into the title game. A couple of things need to happen:

1. People need to start talking about it. So sports reporters, start making the case on TV now!
-- Utah is undefeated, only Alabama is undefeated from a BCS conference.
-- Utah beat three Top 25 teams this year!
-- Utah beat the probable Pac-10 champ this year... that's a BCS conference, but nobody is talking about that

2. A couple of losses would help the case. Just look at the possibilities next week:
-- Florida State over Florida?
-- Auburn over Alabama?
-- Texas A&M over Texas?
-- Oklahoma State over Oklahoma?
and then the following week:
-- Alabama vs Florida, so one of them is going down
-- Mizzou over Oklahoma/Texas in Big 12 championship

Will be fun to watch!! I just can't believe that I haven't even heard any mention of this possibility on any national broadcast or article. Let's start making some noise!!
How about.... | 8:56 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Florida at the BCS?

It might not happened but would be exciting to see...

Go Utah. This has been a good year. Obama won. Curtis lost. And Utah won by 25!!!! Life is good.
Above it all | 9:04 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Dear BYU and Utah fans,
Are there more important things in your mediocre life than to sit back and tell each other how bad your fans are? Who really cares about this anyways. In fact, think about this.
When you are in your golden years and you reflect back on your spectator sports fueled lifestyle. Will the events of some fans, some players and a game be remembered ahead of your family, friends and life experiences?
This was just a game. The trivial nature of a couple people don't dictate the behavior of the majority.

Everyone needs to take a breath and think about the bigger picture....

Socalutefan,

BYU players and fans should be ashamed of themselves for bring God into athletics...oh that's right, they justify everything (right or wrong) that way.
Re: 84 Champs | 9:08 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008

Didn't BYU play a 6-5 Michigan in Holiday Bowl of 1984?
Their SOS in today's computer ranking probably will be in the 15 percentile.

Hmm...in today's world, they probably will be ranked at about 20-25 in BCS.

CougFan | 9:10 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
The best team won, and I wish the Utes the best of luck in their BCS game.I hope they get a quality opponent and win.I have read many of the post here and I will say this, some of you take this way too serious. It amazes me how fans on both sides pole vault over turds, ie things that people say. GOOD LUCK to the Cougars and the UTES in their respective bowl game. To quote the infamous Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"
Kyle Luekenga | 9:19 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Max is still throwing picks.
