That's right. Utes beat SEC teams while Cougars keep up their woosie nobody schedule, who wouldn't win 50 in a row with weak scheduling like that. Who'd they beat tonight, a food?

Atleast the BYU football team has to play a REAL team in football tommorrow when they face a top 7, undefeated team that has already beat two nationally ranked teams.

Utes will destroy the Kittens tommorrow and beat them in BBall three times this year.
Lot of Potential for Cougars | 1:10 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Although they have looked good thus far-has the competition been that bad or are the Cougs that good?

Love how they are meshing nicely into an unselfish unit with everyone getting a lot of PT.

This depth will pay off during the grind of the MWC season and tournament.

SW Baptist is in the SEC?
RE: Playing Foods? | 5:29 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Uhhhhh.....what?

Utah vs. Southwest Baptist? (a loss)
Utah vs. Green Bay? (Not the football team).
Utah vs. Mississippi? Yes from the SEC but a power team from the SEC? Hardly.

Good luck against who? Morgan State? Today.

Let's not get too puffed up with your own patsy schedule. Pay attention to your own team before you cast doubts at BYU. Your recent record against the Cougs would suggest you need to pause for some silence on that account.

The yewts must be good, after all they beat Southwest Baptist. Oh wait, no they lost to them. At home.
dsore1218 | 6:02 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Wow,Playing Foods, I missed Southern Baptist being accepted into the SEC. Can you give us more details. At least Green Bay was accepted as well so the SEC is still an even number of teams.

Quit talking until league, especially with your wonderful result to Southern Baptist and don't say it was just an exhibition, no way you guys tank one because it is an 'exhibition'.
yewts | 6:40 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Ya, yewts may have beat old miss, but look who the yewts have lost to, just like last year, they'll beat 1 or 2 teams they shouldn't have, but they'll lose about 12-19 games they should or could have won...sorry yewts, but COUGS are going to roll over you 3 times this year-once in the tourney as well.

This is dangerous for the Cougars. Any team that can play some sort of perimeter defense will shut this team down. Chris Miles is bad. Very tentative. He either travels or cant make a lay-up.
And to the poster from 1:10 a.m.: of course you get a lot of PT when you're up by 20. Play someone decent and you will see how deep your Cougars really are.

Um, actually the Utes lose at home to a Division II Baptist school!!
re: Playing Foods | 7:26 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
You are kidding right?!?

Two words for you: Southwest Baptist
nottyou | 7:28 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Hey Playing Foods: Wow, I didn't know that Southwest Baptist was in the SEC. Impressive Utah victory over that SEC basketball powerhouse! That obviously was a victory, wasn't it?

Yewts lost to the Baptists.

They just need to stop scheduling any school related to a religion.

For further info see yewts vs. BYU 2006, 2007.

I feel so sorry for the jealous Ute fans who have nothing to do but come to our basketball stories to vent their frustrations and inferiority complexes.

And wasn't this about basketball?

Re Playing Foods: Did I miss something? At least BYU wins their games with "woosies". Who was that that your mighty Utes lost to in their first game? You've got to be kidding. Get a life!
RE: Playing Foods | 8:03 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Here are a few words to shut up Yewt fans...Southwest Baptist. You lost to these guys!!! You have lost the right to talk smack for one entire year. Come back again next year. Love,
The school who is more dominant in every area year in and year out. GO COUGARS!
Re:Playing foods | 8:09 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
who did utah lose to again? oh yeah my church ball team the southern baptist!
Re: Playing Foods | 8:09 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
I'm surprised you're able to maintain such a, shall we say, confident (arrogant is probably the better word) attitude after the Utes were handily beaten by....what was the name of that school again, Southwest Baptist College (or was it Southwest Baptist Prep School?)

I'm sure today's football game will be interesting, but the basketball team probably won't be affected by it either way.

And, just because UMiss is from the SEC doesn't mean they're all that great. They probably won't make the NCAA Tournament.

Oh, and good luck tonight against perennial powerhouse Morgan State. :)

Cougars have a very strong squad again this year that can shoot the lights out, in spite of losing some of their key players from last year. I think the Utes will have another "rebuilding" year. We'll check back on your Utes 3-0 vs. Cougars prediction at the end of the year.

Here's to a great game today with minimal fighting in the stands. Come on Ute fans, you can do it. Be classy!

Southwestern Baptist - whoever they are - enough said!!

I didn't realize that Southwest Baptist college was in the SEC?
eating crow | 8:31 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Uh, SEC teams? Since when do Southwest-Baptist and Wisconsin-Green Bay play for the SEC? And, let's see -- you lost to Southwest-Baptist so unless they are now a powerhouse that we didn't know about, you'd better worry about beating the patsies on your own schedule before you start saying anything about the Cougs. Boy, the Utah mouths will be quiet on here tomorrow after their third straight loss to BYU!
True Blue | 8:34 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Brian Johnson throws three picks, which are returned to the house. He fumbles twice, which are again returned to the house. Otherwise, the Utah defense pitches a shutout.

Utah doesn't score except for BYU. BYU wins 35-0!

Rise and Shout!

Re: Playing Foods | 8:42 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
When the Lord passed out brains, you thought he said trains and you missed yours!

Owls are not foods. They are birds of prey. Speaking of prey, your school should learn how to pray, because it will take that and much much more for Utah to beat BYU three times this year in roundball.

I rapidly acknowledge that BYU hasn't played any top opponents YET this year, but they have some coming up. However, anyone - with a brain - who has watched BYU and Utah play basketball this year can clearly see that BYU is a much faster team than in the recent past, they pass the ball well, they shoot the lights out and play together very well. Sorry Foods, you can't say that about the Utes.

When you choose to engage in a battle of wits, make sure you are not the unarmed man. Ignorance is pathetic. Lack of class is inherited from your "U" roots.
Wow | 9:12 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Making fun of Utes? Yeah fine, they lost to a division 2 team. But bragging about how good the Cougars are? Please. You just beat a team that had just barely snapped a 21(!) game losing streak. Not really a measuring stick for a team that claims to want to win a MWC Championship.
BlueBoy | 9:14 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
It's hard to tell just how good the BYU basketball team is because of the level of their competition. But, the fact that they're blowing out those teams as they should do if they ARE good, bodes well.

I'm impressed with two things that are a direct result of the coach's attitude about his job: pesky defense (at any part of the court), and the willingness to let the trey fly. If anything, BYU will be fun to watch this year.

Without much experience, and maybe a lack of real talent up front, I doubt BYU will be much of a post team this year. Anderson shows a shooting touch and shot-blocking capability, but is still a rookie in his mistakes, so won't see a lot of time in favor of the more experienced big men.

An inside game might not be necessary with as many guys who can shoot the trey on this team, and with how pesky their defense is. Time will tell.

This team kinda reminds me of the Oklahoma teams of some years ago that led the nation in trey shooting, getting quite deep into the NCAAs back then.
Cougar Fan | 10:35 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
They play the Dave Rose style very well and overwhelm their opponents with defense and fast-paced 3-point shooting.

We'll see what happens when they play better and bigger teams in December like ASU and Wake Forest. Wake at the Marriott Center should be very interesting indeed. The ACC does not usually travel west very well.
CougFan | 11:06 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
BlueBoy-thanks for getting things back on track. All this BYU-Utah bickering is a little premature at this point, seeing how niehter team has really been tested.

While I am generally impressed with the way the Cougars have been playing, I am a little worried about all this shooting. Sure, they are hitting the trey better than I have seen in years, but with the lack of any sort of post play, it becomes a little worrisome. Teams like ASU, WF, and UNLV are not going to play patsy perimeter defense like Rice. Open 3's are not going to be nearly as easy to come by as the season progresses.

That brings me to my major qualm: Why is Miles (and MacGregor for that matter) so hesitant? Whenever he has a clear path to the basket he dribbles once, looks around confusedly, and allows the defender to adjust. Just go up!! You're a GIANT!! The way this has been going, I wouldn't mind if Anderson started. He may make mistakes, but at least he has some scoring instinct and he's not a pansy.
My rival makes me laugh | 11:27 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Double wow,

What? The Utes lost to a division two team. Thanks for sharing Ute fan. That's hilarious.

Looks like bragging rights for the year have already been conceded to BYU in basketball. I'm not saying BYU has proven anything. I'm really not trying to stir the pot. But I'm just saying, if I were a Ute, I wouldn't be bragging about basketball at all at this point. But then I'm not a Ute.
Wow | 12:56 p.m. Nov. 22, 2008
I'm not a ute fan, just an objective observer. Well, not quite objective. Actually cheering for the Aggies. All I said is that you havent really played anyone tough. None of the Utah teams have, except for the Utes seemed like they got overwhelmed by a GREAT southern baptist squad (tongue in cheek here). BYU's record is where it is supposed to be because of the lack of quality. Ags record is where it is supposed to be. Real measuring sticks will come later in the season. It is just dangerous living by the three. Most teams play way tougher defense than the sleeping Owls.
Good luck, except for 12/6 at ESA of course.

We get on this site to poke fun at BYU fans. After beating a team like Northern Florida by 30, they instantly think their ready for a run at the NC when in fact they can't even win a tourney game.
Its humorous.
