I gotta give credit where credit is due! Hurricane was the best team we have ever faced! Had we gone into an overtime the outcome may have been different! But THE GAME SPOKE FOR ITSELF!!! WE ARE THIS YEARS 3A STATE CHAMPS! 14-0 BABY! What more can we ask for!?
JD played a great game | 6:21 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
As a witness to the game and a Hurricane fan, I commend Juan Diego for their play. They did an excellent job.

Kids like Tavake and Latu and Ika, Anderson, Sutera, Mc Falls, Ramierez. Not to mention the ten, 8th grade poly players for Hillcrest little league on JD sidelines for a varsity game, in JD JERSEYS that were given to them. They are all their for intellectual reasons. It is fine that you are allowed to recruit kids for INTELLECTUAL reasons. Either play in your own league or move to 4a or 5a with schools that also have open enrollment for intellectual students. But in the mean time feel good about beating little rural cities or communities that have players that only live in their towns, not a mix of kids from all over the state. Congrats.
Happy for the Kicker | 2:26 p.m. Nov. 22, 2008
I was at the Game and I was actually cheering for Hurricane, but to see a kid that had missed a couple extra points to step out their and split the Up-rights at the end of the Game is Awesome. He would have felt like it was his fault for a long time if he had missed the Field Goal at the End and JD would have lost in OT. I hate to see a Kid with Tears in his eyes when he missed the extra Points, so I thought it was nice to see him make the Winning Kick to redeam him self.

Congrats JD Football Team!! You started as a team and ended as team. It was so exciting watching all of the players grow as a team. My daughter is a Senior this year so I have been an avid fan. I am so excited for all the Senior players what a way to end your career at Juan Diego. I know all of you will go on and do great things. Good luck in college!! To the rest of the JD team I will be there cheering you on next year. Keep the tradition going you are all Champions.

Park City lost last week, lay off the blogs.
FYI Good Job J.D. @ 12:34 | 8:54 p.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Okay, I think I've got it. Let's say an 8th grader doesn't want to attend his "home high school" for whatever reason; academics aren't so great, maybe the athletic teams are very good - whatever. It also happens that this kid is a pretty good athlete and wants to play sports. It's okay for him to go to any open enrollment public 4A or 5A school (as has been noted in this blog, that seems to happen at Skyline quite a bit), but it's not okay for him to go to Juan Diego, Judge, American Leadership Academy, or Layton Christian because they are private 3A schools. Got it. Oh, by the way, the University of Utah probably has a continuing ed Logic 101 class available. You maybe should look into it....
re: kicker got lucky | 4:38 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
Really? Did it make you feel better to make your comment? Because in truth, a win is a win and a good kick is a good kick whether it split the uprights or not. I'm happy for Bentrude that he kept his head together enough to get it thru. Very commedable for a HS football player in a high pressure situation.

FYI: Any kick that goes in between the goal posts would be considered "splitting the uprights" ..... It went though the uprights? Would that have been better for you.

Note: Luck always favors the prepared!

The "lucky" kicker as you put it was out working at half time to be ready for this very kick!

If we were to follow YOUR reasoning in your comments than the Hurricane team was LUCKY that the score was not 36-10 and resting on the Juan Diego kicker to win the game as supposedly "bad" coaching calls by the Hurricane coaches (according to the Hurricane Fans) ..... So I guess Hurricane was lucky it was as close a game for them not to have been "blown" out in the Championship game.

Thanks for YOUR comments on about a young man who already felt bad but nailed the kick that was needed for his team!

GO JD!!!

Just like I mentioned in an earlier article, H-town will always have an excuse for getting beat.. Not one complement from Homer on JD being a better team, just how H-town couldn't get-er-done. Congratulations to JD for being a class act and really showing what a POWERHOUSE team can do. H-town, maybe, in another 19 years????
GO JD | 1:44 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Great job JD,way to go,what a game. Would have liked to see a few more passes in the game but still a great finish. 14-0 State Title!!!
To kudos | 6:04 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Wrong. California (where I played high school football, at a Catholic high - St. Bernard's) DOES NOT have public and private state titles. All schools, public and private, play in the same leagues, play for sectional titles, the CIF championship etc.
Wow | 11:05 a.m. Nov. 25, 2008
They must not know what a screen play looks like down south or how to defend one. RB and three linemen running down the sideline with nothing in front of them. Good job Hurricane, maybe you should have worked on some defense last week, instead of you're great offense and dotson

As someone who was at the 3A Championship Game, I'm confused as to just how JD deserves the "POWERHOUSE" label and "H-Town" deserves a "LOSER" label (at least that's how your post sounded...) when JD won the game on a last second field goal. JD seemed to me to conduct themselves worthy of a "class-act," as did Hurricane - you, on the other hand, don't seem to deserve the same kudo...
