Why even take the time to write in what really happened on the field today. Are you Protecting Homer? Man what some Coaching he did as well as his Assistants. Kick the Ball Deep with 8 Seconds in the Half. It cost you the Game, next Year open up the O a little sooner in the Game and might bring Home the Trophy.
Fair Weather Fans | 7:45 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
You watch how quickly the fans will turn on good coaches when they start to lose,in the next few years Hurricane and PV are going to have bad years not because of coaching but because the talent won't be there and you watch the venom come out on the coach's.
Hurricane Parent | 8:35 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
WOW. Im so glad that you know whatI am all about. IF you knew all the facts you would know I have been a supporter of Coach Homer in many ways and am not a johnny-come-lately. Before you get up on your high horse you better get your facts straight. I do not want to take away from the sucess of the season. The boys, the coaches deserve better than that. I have and will stand as a proud supporter of HHS football and the coaches.

3 touchdowns were called back for motion after the plays were compleated! Don't most motion calls and flags fly or stop play during the play?

Well here I am AFTERa good nights sleep and fresh watching of the KJZZ 14 game I recorded!

First, let me apologize for the overzealous mom comments about JD being able to "beat anyone in 4A or 5A". Sorry! JD is a GREAT team, but that statement is a little ridiculous.

Second, GREAT Game Hurricane! Smash mouth football at it's best! #54 YOU are a great player! My hat off to you!

Third, JD is 3A State Champions! JD 21- Hurricane 18! GREAT JOB JD! Defense WINS Football CHampionships as I said all year!

Now a couple comments for "some" non-believers that posted before this great game:

1. JD's Defense overrated: WOW, just checked #1 Utah RB to ONLY 53 yards!
2. Region 8 WEAK? Yes, but apparently good enough to produce 3A State Champion! I guess JD stats where not just against "weak" teams?
3. Where are ALL the Morgan Fans that said JD was going to LOSE?
4. Hey, Diet Pepsi, NOT only did I not see you at the game I haven't seen your post to apologize to these players!

SUMMARY:

Juan Diego 14-0
Juan Diego 3A State Champions
CONGRATS TO BOTH TEAMS ON GREAT YEAR

to JD fan | 11:59 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
JD won the game because the Hurricane coaches blew it. JD does have some studs for players. They battled hard. Just saying that with a little better coaching Hurricane would have been taking the 1st place trophy down south.

to "to JD fan" | 2:19 p.m. Nov. 22, 2008
You applying for the job or just a monday morning quarterback?
H | 6:04 p.m. Nov. 22, 2008
I hardly say they blew it had they held them for 10 more seconds game would have gone into over time, but they didnt they stayed in the game until the last 3 seconds I hardly call that blowing it, also its the players playing the game.
Great job to JD!!! you played a great game
JD Fan | 7:59 p.m. Nov. 22, 2008
comments at 11:59 am: Hurricane LOSING had NOTHING to do with their coaches ! The players have to execute, no matter what the play calling is buddy! JD was in the Red Zone 3x and did not score DUE to JD taking themselves out with nothing to do with the Hurricane Defense, players or coaches! The score should have been 36-10, but the sign of a GREAT team is being able to WIN despite adversity, even when YOU inflict it on yourself in the form of self-enduced fumbles, penalties, etc.

JD controlled this game from START to FINISH .... with NO excuses! So please do not start making them for Hurricane! Hurricane was LUCKY that is was as close a game as it was, the BEST team won Friday ...... AND it was Juan Diego!

We all know MANY parents in Hurricane DO NOT like the coaches and tried to have them removed. Start another petition, but keep your excuses for the LOSE off this site trying to take away from the kids who worked hard and WON!

Have a great day! FYI: Homer did great things with YOUR team, thank him for getting to State!
Utah football fan | 8:28 p.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Quit blaming the Hurricane coaches. Obviously you dont know them. They are great men and great coaches.

Juan Diego fans who keep saying the officiating was bad. It wasnt at all. The referees only called penalties when a penalty was committed.

Hurricane was the better team and if they played again Hurricane would not make the same game-changing mistakes.
to Utah football fan | 9:08 p.m. Nov. 22, 2008
As JD Fan said before you posted. I agree! JD really walked all over Hurricane and it had nothing to do with the refs, play calling, coaches, etc. The better team and players won and would win 10 times out of 10! Hurricane could not move the ball consistently against the "D" of JD and would not be able to do it if they played again or again! Take the loss for what it is and acknowledge that the better team won instead of making excuses about why Hurricane did not win the game!
JD won the game because they were the better team! PERIOD!

Who cares if the officiating was bad, JD still won even if it was! Who cares. WE are not Bingham here complaining about bad calls because we lost, we won! Despite any bad calls or not. Yes, JD could have played a little better (with less mistakes on penalties, but so could have Hurricane), should of, could of, would of, WHO CARES! Juan Diego was the better team if I did not already say that already because some people on these comments seem to not be able to read to well!
Name the bad calls | 1:49 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
To ALL the folks from JD who have commented on the bad calls, try and be a bit more specific. Heres's your challenge: Name the 11 penalties you got and which ones were supposedly "bad" or "poor". I bet you can't do it.

Congrats to both teams on a well fought game. Both Coaching staffs were terrific examples and class acts.
From Another State | 5:29 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I was at this Game and both Teams are one Dimensional. Why didn't the JD QB throw the Ball more often? When he did he was spot on. And to the Hurricane Coaching Staff, since when do you kick deep with seconds remaining in the Half. And one more thing as long as you play your Teams in the Box instead of Spreading the Field and this is for both Teams you wont be back at Rice in many Years to come. Colosomo and fans want to blame the Refs and they won. ( Spoiled ) Hurricane needs to have the one Coach that was 5'5 350 LBS. to Shave and look respectable for a title Game. This is coming from a Parent that was going to send my Kid to Utah to Attend JD and I have changed my Mind, because he will get no exposure at his Position Playing in a Box Formation. I have already set up a Time to Meet with TV Coaches who Spread the Field like College Teams do. I am not sure if this is Right or Wong.
RE to Hurricane parent | 9:11 a.m. Nov. 23, 2008
you know I have to agree with you. Southern Utah parents are impatient and living his/her past high school athletic career through their kids, and its a joke. It is funny how last year the community of Hurricane got a petition signed to get Coach Homer fired because he is making the kids work and be accountable. He may have done some things to upset some parents but he is human, we all make mistakes. And now he played for state he is a GOD in the community again. The true test will be next season when he looses his senior leaders. As for the other schools down there. PV went through change and tried to run Hosner out of town, I bet your glad he stuck around! For being a lame duck coach its turned out pretty good for PV. Dixie is Dixie either they love you or they hate you, watch out Monkers. As for SC all I can say is grow up parents. I don't know Secrist but give the guy a chance. How can you take a bunch of momma's boys and turn them into football players in two years? Hang in there SC coaches.
Anonymous | 12:08 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
how come nobody is saying anything about the 3 missed tackles on the ko return and just the fact that they kicked it deep?
The Official | 1:30 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
I will comment about the "three missed tackles" They are called "BROKEN TACKLES"!!! #5 has game, and they couldnt bring him down. On video, there were at least 6 players that reached for air to get him. JD special teams scouted the Tigers tendancy to over pursue and the blocking parted the middle of the field for 97 yard TD.
Re Hurricane Parent | 1:32 p.m. Nov. 23, 2008
We will see how parents do at Hurricane and PV the next couple of years when the winning stops. This years team from both schools were loaded with quality seniors, the next few years there will definitely be a drop off in talent and PV will have and even harder job having to compete in 4A.
Go Tigers | 9:40 a.m. Nov. 24, 2008
Was the Logan-Juan Diego game still the state championship? Is Logan still the second best team in 3A? No. You guys underestimated Hurricane, and the game easily could have gone the other way.
To out of Stater | 12:44 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
The JD QB did not throw the ball more because they RUN the veer offense. How ever your observation of his SPOT ON passing skills are correct, if he had the chance to throw the ball 20 times in this game the score is not even close. He is a VERY underated passing QB that knows the game as well as any QB I've ever watched. He will go on to the next level and do very well.
Silence is Golden... | 4:52 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
...Hmmm, it appears that none of you could take up the challenge of SPECIFICALLY naming ALL of the BAD CALLS by a poor officiating crew of the "first order". Guess you're not willing to put your money where your mouth is.

So, NEW challenge (esp. to "Confused"): NAME the "3 Touchdowns (that) were called back for motion after the plays were compleated!" When did they occur? Good luck. (By the way NFHS Rule 7.2.7 describes "Illegal Motion"--which is a LIVE BALL foul for all you who DON'T know the rules--which is MOST of you.)

My suggestion, before any more of you Rules Hounds speak ill of the referee who were assigned to this game, or any other, how about you go down to the UHSAA Office and offer your VAST RULES Services. You'll be handsomely rewarded for your time and for putting football ahead of your family, and all your friends will be IMPRESSED by your wisdom and football intellect. Then, since the UHSAA will put just about anyone on the field, maybe YOU can be assigned to officiate the next 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!

Now don't walk away from this incredible offer, I'm looking forward to seeing you there.

Re:Silence is Golden | 9:43 p.m. Nov. 24, 2008
I've tried to post twice but they won't post it.

#1 Pass interference in the first quarter, JD corner beat the the receiver to the ball. Good defense, bad call.

#2 Holding on Morales in the second quarter that negated the TD. The defender bull rushed Morales, as fell fell to his back and the defender fell over the top of him. Horrible call that could have changed the game.

#3 As May plunged in for the winning TD(if it hadn't been called back for a phantom false start on a WR) a huricane player was twisting his helmet by his facemask trying to pull him out of the endzone. The offical choose to ignore this.
RE:From Another State | 12:51 a.m. Nov. 25, 2008
How dare you say that Coach Cullimore (the "5-5 350 pounder") should shave and look presentable, he has been at Hurricane for longer than you've been alive and, had you known him, you'd feel the exact same way i do if someone wrote that about him. plus, since when is high school football a fashion show? And its also funny that you should question their offensive schemes when they obviously were good enough to get them both to the title game, and to make two of the top offenses in the state scoring wise. and the only loss between the two teams was when hurricane lost to a 4A power from Pine View who barely lost in the semi-final game to a football powerhouse.

If you haven't seen either of them play previously, then your observation from one game is biased. your statements have no validity.
The Official | 8:22 a.m. Nov. 25, 2008
"Silence is Golden" IMO, The Umpire and Back Judge called an excellent game from their respective positions. The lines men and line judge were marginal at best and effected the outcome of the game. throwing the false start flag at the end of regulation when JD punched it in was a very horrible call,( here you need to understand the intent of the rule) I watched video of the play and was not able to see any movement of a JD player...
The ref ... well theres another story,He lost total control of the game... his mechanics were poor, he allowed Hurricane players to throw their helmets in a display of poor sportsmenship, enter the field of play during the final play and not throw a flag. That alone should have offset the JD illeagal participation flag.
I agree with the other posting on the negated TD because of the Moralas "hold" call... its called a pancake ref...
Summery: your over rated as an official and you have no accountability to your poor performance, IMO, you need to be reevaluated.
Hurricane | 10:48 a.m. Nov. 25, 2008
Who else loved the skullet and visor on the short/big Hurricane coach? Awesome!!
JD | 2:48 p.m. Nov. 25, 2008
I think there could have been a false start penalty called on every JD offensive play. They go to their 3 point stance and never come set before the ball is snapped. It was called a couple times, but not enough. A definite advantage to a team that didn't need anymore.
The Official | 7:59 p.m. Nov. 25, 2008
Thank you very much for proving my point on the officiating crew at the 3-A stae final game, they were inconsistant through out the entire game, even up to the last play before the game winning kick!!
Anonymous | 8:08 p.m. Nov. 25, 2008
the last 3 teams that have played jd have let the refs know about their rolling start offense before hand and several times througout the game. yes they were a good team and definately any team that can roll into their plays has an advantage over any other team. ALL the refs dropped the ball on that.
Re:Anonymous | 10:12 p.m. Nov. 26, 2008
The JD quarterback calls everyone down and then they go on a snap count, it is perfectly legal. If any of those three previous team's coaches felt it was such an advantage then they were welcome to employ the technique.
Horrible officiating | 12:56 p.m. Nov. 27, 2008
They should get officials who don't have a hidden agenda (religious or otherwise) for these games. Unfortunately in Utah that would probably require Refs from out of state. In this game it didn't affect the final outcome (it almost did) but it did affect the score, creating a situation that shouldn't have happened. The Ref who's posting here should obtain a tape of the game. I watched the game on TV, not only do I agree with the bad calls posted above, but it's obvious that there was disparity in calls that always seemed to conveniently be against JD. We all know that holding calls are VERY subjective, and if you're looking at the line you could call holding any time. If the Refs KNOW what they're doing then it's even worse, because it means that there was intent in this.
RE: Horrible Officiating | 5:16 a.m. Nov. 28, 2008
Did you not have $6 to get in to the Game or what? Jd should have been called for False Starting on O all game Long. And to Mr. Confused 97% of JD Graduating Class is going to (Collage) or you might say College. You should Graduate from high school before you post something on here.
JD football player to Alta Fan | 9:54 p.m. Nov. 30, 2008
Alta is definently a great team and so is Juan Diego! the only difference between the two is the size of the schools. WAT ARE EXACTLY IS YOUR POINT? YOU HAVE ABOUT 3-4,000 STUDENTS IN YOUR SCHOOL. WE HAVE ONLY 250 SENIORS AND ABOUT 750 TOTAL STUDENTS IN THE SCHOOL. SO YOU TOOK 5A STATE AND WE TOOK 3A. IF YOUR LOOKING FOR THE BEST TEAM IN THE STATE, ITS NOT YOU! ITS ONE OF THE TEAMS IN THE 4A. ACADEMICALLY! WE SPANK YOU! ANOTHER THING. YOU BARELY BEAT BINGHAM. BINGHAM SCRIMMAGES TIMPVIEW EVERY YEAR AND HAS NEVER COME OUT VICTORIOUS. LASTLY. IF WE DID PLAY YOU, IT WOULD BE A BATTLE! THO WE MAY NOT WIN, WE DEFINENTLY CAN AND WOULD PUT UP A FIGHT!
Congrats | 10:06 a.m. Dec. 1, 2008
JD! You rocked. Good Job Hurricane, you did a really good job.

I wonder what would happen if Alta High School VS. Juan Diego at football,

who will win?

The Final Word(s) on the Refs | 9:32 p.m. Dec. 1, 2008
To...

9:43,Nov. 24--
1. None of the 3 penalties you referenced were anything related to "illegal motion".

2. I agree with #1. Disagree with #2 (look at whose hands are holding whose shirt). Many issues with #3: a) The FST was called on the entire OL--not a WR--who was rolling without a full second pause after going into a 3 pt. stance--a clear advantage against the Defense; b) No official "chose" to ignore a facemask call, because the facemask call wasn't the focus of the play and did NOT constitute an ADVANTAGE/DISADVANTAGE.

"The Official"--
1. See 2a above; NO PANCAKES were served that day.

2. Both coaches were made aware that the "rolling start" JD runs would be scrutinized, but it was JD who throughout the game was inconsistent in its execution--causing their own penalties.

3. I agree about the mechanics--not real sharp, and a bit rushed; but had no outcome on the "control" of the game as BOTH teams showed excellent sportsmanship.

"Horrible Officiating"--
1. Please don't lower yourself as a conspiratist. There is/was NO bias against JD or ANY school by the officials--EVER!

2. Out-of-State-Officials? Your choice: Idaho/Wyoming/Nevada/Colorado? Utah has more active/former HS refs who are now D1/NFL.
