Congratulations to Juan Diego on an undefeated season and the 3A Title.
Congratulations also to Hurricane on a great year and a terrific run to the championship game.

Great Game Hurricane | 2:09 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Great game for both teams.Hurricane you represented So Utah well. The other teams from down south were always blown out in their championship games but you hung in there and almost won, great season!
Wasatch Fan | 2:17 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Juan Diego's unbeatable? They're a very good team, but I think if they played Hurricane ten times they'd split, or win six of the ten maybe. I don't think I've ever seen a high school football team that was unbeatable.

Anyway, congrats to them, condolences to Hurricane. Great game.
Billj | 2:30 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Great game to both squads!!!! Please do not start with the excuses on either side.
JD Mom | 2:32 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Juan Diego could beat anyone in 4A or 5A.
Southern Fan | 2:32 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Interesting coaching decisions on Hurricane side of the ball! They will be second guessing themselves for a long time. I feel like they got out coached!!!
Anonymous | 2:36 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Congratulations to Juan Diego, you managed to win the game even when faced with adversity, in this case not because of the other team, but because of the shameful officiating. This game shouldn't have been nearly that close. I'm glad you guys played-on and showed that you don't need to have the referee in your pocket to win.
ALTAFAN | 2:41 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
JD Mom, Don't kid yourself. If you really want to test your theory though... You're more then welcome to drive your team just up the street to play Alta :)
To JD Mom | 2:43 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Congratulations..

Yours is the first comment on this blog that was either stupid or classless.

Juan Diego is a good 3A team but would have its hands full with the top 7-8 teams in 4A and would get run out of the stadium against most 5A teams.

Take this victory for what it is and enjoy what your team has accomplished. Good grief
JD | 2:49 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Hey, there were a number of LDS on the Juan Diego team too.
Anonymous | 2:56 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
hurricane being out coached is a understatement. kicking it deep with 8 seconds left in the half? great call. the on side kick ended up not hurting you but great call? If Dotson cant run up the middle you might try getting him outside?
Judge | 2:57 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Congrats to Juan Diego !!! Great season - sad that next year the Catholics will beat each other out in state being in the same region now. Thanks for representing all of us so well.
Congrats J. Diego | 3:03 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Congratulations to Juan Diego and their coaches. They played a great game and made the big plays. It was an exciting game.

Congratulations to Hurricane. They played very well and made it a championship caliber game. I am very proud of the Tigers and their fans. Great season!

I don't think your team could beat the timpview t-birds, they both have good defense and high powered offense.

JD mom.....think before you blog
Dustin Harris | 3:30 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Good game to both teams. I think they both did good. Hurricane should have won that one but dotson couldnt get up the middle as much as he wanted to. but good job on the defense guys.

This is a Catholic School in name only.
gottaluvit | 4:14 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Both teams played their best game in a thrilling heart stopper. As a JD Mom, myself, I appreciate the nice words and good sportsmanship of the Hurrican principal! Thank you. However, the officiating was a joke of the first order.
Anonymous | 4:19 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Yeah, it's always a joke when calls go against your team, eh? You trying to tell me JD didn't hold on the TD that got called back, or what exactly are you referring to?
Dan John | 4:21 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
"This is a Catholic School in name only."

This is offensive at so many levels that one can only look at the "Words Remaining" count down ticker on the side here and wonder "where to begin?" St. Juan Diego's story reminds us that anyone and everyone can be called by God to do amazing things...and miracles. The story of the conversion of Sam Skaggs calls each of us to treat each and every moment with dignity and love. Our campus reflects the best and brightest of our long tradition, from the Our Lady of Sorrows shrine that comforts our grief to St. Michael who protects us (and our police officers and soldiers and sailors and Marines). Not only does the day begin with prayer, but so does each class.

To get the day off for the State Game, our students gathered over 10,000 books for "Invisible Children" in Africa (for the school library) and, I believe, 4000 cans of food for the various local pantries.

Many of the faculty members devote countless hours to CCD, RCIA and parish programs as well as providing moral, financial, and spiritual help to many other causes.

Think before you write. Pray about it.

Congratulations to the Hurricane Tigers. You played
a great game and had a great season. Except for
two plays you would have won the game. It was
one of the best high school football games I've ever
seen. Congratulations to Juan Diego Soaring Eagle.
You played with great heart and were a worthy
opponent. I'm proud to say I'm a former Tiger.
OnTheHill | 4:39 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
First off, congrats to Juan Diego Catholic High School - 2008 3A Champs! Great season, great final game, great job.

As to this comment: "shameful officiating" Yeah, not so much. Calls against JD did come at some inopportune times, but they were legit calls that should have been and were made. And that's from a football fan with no horse in this race.
To Anonymous | 4:03 p.m. | 4:40 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
I agree. Jimenez, Ramirez, and Morales are all LDS kids just as much as if their last names were Smith or Greene. And that Markosian kid. Other than his dad teaching at JD he must be an LDS recruit. And how about May & Kenninger? I know for a fact that their mom's only wear crosses so that their LDS kids can go to a Catholic school. Maybe we should all band together and see if we can get a state law passed that only Catholic kids can go to a Catholic school.
JD admirer | 4:57 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Big congratulations to the Juan Diego team and to their wonderful coach John Colosimo. He is a hard working, humble man with class and integrity. He leaves his players with much more to take with them in life than the 3A state championship! He has earned the respect of many young men during his years as head coach at both Judge Memorial and Juan Diego. Congratulations John!
Congratulations | 5:11 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
To both teams. That was probably the closest high school game I've seen. Very well played and coached on both sides. JD happened to come out on top but it could have gone either way, and that's the way it should be in a championship game. I'm proud of my Tigers though. Best 11-man football team ever in Hurricane's history. Hold 'em high boys...ya did us proud!
JD | 5:14 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
how about that kickoff return?!?!?!?

Tyler you did great. You and your team did a fantastic job. The game was so much fun to watch. Keep up the good work with your school work.
RE southern fan | 5:18 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Although I'm a so Utah fan it was apparent that JD outplayed Hurricane.Total yards were 333 JD to 231 Hurricane ,JD had one more turnover and the penalties were way out of wack, 11 for 103 yards for JD and 3 for 6 yards for Hurricane.Hurricane did a great job of just staying in the game and then could have won it at the end.Way to go Hurricane even though you lost you fought all the way to the end!
Hurricane Fan | 6:40 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Congrats Juan Diego. You had a great team and it was a good game.

We're all proud of Hurricane's season and how they came out in the second half and went toe to toe.
Maple Valley | 6:59 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Please it is not a Religion Game!! So quit! remember roughly 70% at school are Catholic the other 30% is mixed. Why can't this community quit making this a Relegion issue. JD is a great academic school and anyone can attend. Great Game! Congrats to both!!! And JD yes you are the 3A State FB Champs and represented all communites in the Salt Lake Valley!
Football Fan | 7:06 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Can't we all just enjoy the awesome football game that was played today? Was there ever a moment that wasn't exciting? It was amazing, no matter what side your on. Both teams were so great all season, they've got great players, great coaches and great fans! Lets keep our dignity together when we put the comments on here and just keep it clean. Great job to both teams! Congratulations Juan Diego for winning!Congratulations to Hurricane for fighting the way they did! Remember it's not if you win or lose but how you play the game. That applies to all aspects of life, not just sports. Just keep it clean guys.

A commenter seems to be insinuating that your last name determines what religion you are. Maybe for some.

At any rate, congratulations Juan Diego. Your team and your coach are a class act all around.

Got a lot of nerve, to be a hater after the season they had is just crazy, where were you on all the wins? Coach Homer and staff, you did great this year and you have our support.

Hurricane players, coaches and fans, hold your head up high. You played with class and you do things the way they should be done. Your kids, who are from your community, represented your community well, which is the way it should be.

way to finish out the perfect season JD!!! Good job not letting the officials ruin the game - they had something other than football on their minds but times are changing and they had better get used to it. Good game Hurricane you played with heart.
That guy | 8:47 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Congratulations JD! Hurricane gave JD the best fight of the year. It was the only game JD played that could have gone either way.
3A Game watcher | 9:54 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
Congrats on the win to JD. But that had to be one of the most boring games that I have seen at Rice. Run the ball, then run the ball. Although the kick return gave it a little more excitement. I'll take a good spread option game, any day.
JD Player | 10:10 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
JD baby. Great game boys. We never quit. To Hurricane, great battle guys. Best team we faced this year. That was anybodys game. We just got it at the end. Other than a few exceptions, great posts on here so far. Let's keep it that way. JD fan, nice to see you giving it a rest. Coach tells us to stay away from these blogs and respect our opponent. And then you go and run your mouth. So what if they did it first. We're better than that. The game was won on the field. NOT on your keyboard. Hurricane, thanks again for an epic battle.
lol | 11:09 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
The best game all year JD is a awesome team good job. Hurricane great season see you boys tomorrow get ready for the steaks and the girls. The coaches are going to drop and give me 150 lol for kicking that ball right before half. JD had the best D I have seen this year Hurricane is good
Hurricane Parent | 11:13 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
First off .. congrats to JD you made the play when you had to. To the HHS team. You have fought as a team and as a parent with a boy on the team I couldnt be prouder of you all. You showed heart and spirit and a never give up attitude. To Coach Homer and his staff.THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! You have taught my boy and the team more things than just football. I have seen the sincere love and respect you have always shown them. I am extremely proud and grateful to have you as the coach and leader of the team. I stand strongly behind you and your program. This is only the start to great things to come under the coaching staff. It was a great game that was anyones to win. or lose.

You've got to love Utah... The best place on earth for people to whine about religion, and be offended by tiddly wink comments...

Don John - Thank you for giving us the history of Juan Diego... But frankly, nobody cares.

To anonymous - should have voted for school vouchers...

To anybody who used the word Catholic in their comment - get over yourself, no matter which side of the fence you are on.

To the person who is going to comment about this - Ha ha ha ha ha...

The real issue here is a private school competing against a public school. Someday somebody will figure out that the small town communities don't stand a chance against the almighty dollar!

Split the leagues and let the rich kids play against each other.
to "hurricane parent" | 11:50 p.m. Nov. 21, 2008
If you have such a love affair with Coach Homer, why don't you support him when things are not going good. I love how many of the parents in Hurricane were trying to run off Homer after last year and now he is the best coach ever because your team made it to State. Coach Homer is proof that given enough time most coachs can build decent programs, but it takes time. The parents in Southern Utah have the coaches on such a short leash that most coaches don't stand a chance unless they can catch lightning in a bottle during the first or second year. I hope the community will support Homer better, and I hope schools like Dixie will realize the great coach they have. PV figured this out years ago with Hosner the parents at SC will never figure it out. Secrist never had a chance nor will any coach that follows. Too many "expert" football parents over there. Hopefully we can keep some of these great coaches, get the progams built up and bring some hardware down to So. Utah. Great job Homer, way to win the battle both on and off the field!!!
