Staying 3A would have fit better for everything but numbers but this is much better than what it was. We're looking forward to being a part of region 8 and trying out some new restaurants.

Finally, the concept that does separate some schools is revealed in a UHSAA discussion. I would suggest it is one of the differences between a private and public school. At a public school, 1/3 of the student body may be academically ineligible to participate in athletics and other extracurricular activites. Not so in a private school. An 800 member private school, in terms of athletic participation and athletic potential (where there are no geographical boundaries), is probably the equivalent of a 1200 member public school.

Whether or not Uintah will struggle, time will only tell. I think they will for the first couple years, but I think this is the best place for them, Finally the UHSAA got something right.

Now fix the ridiculous region 9 situation and we will be in business. The first step is for region 9 to redraw its boundaries and equalize the school sizes. Right now Snow Canyon is way over the 3A limit, but the rest of the schools are below 1000(Hurricane, Desert Hills, Pine View, Canyon View, and Cedar) or just barely over (Dixie). Simple solution: move some kids from Snow Canyon and Dixie and make it all one 3A region.

If I am 4A I do not think I would want to go out there for wrestling. They just need to pick things up a little in other sports. football will be O.K. in that region.

I find this whole situation so interesting. Why is it that there is no exception to the enrollment numbers vs. participation? When there are other exceptions, such as open enrollment (recruiting)? The statement that splitting Provo and TV was done for the purpose of ï¿½balanceï¿½ it almost funny, the only way to bring balance is to STOP letting players play in sports if they do not live in the school boundaries. It is interesting that the policies of ï¿½open enrollmentï¿½ in a elementary school or Jr. high student in Utah County is EXTREMELY in Utah County but, for some reason its not a problem in high school.
If the ï¿½rulesï¿½ outline by the UHSAA are to be followed without exceptions!

IT is difficult to enroll a student in elementary school or Jr.High if they live out of boundaries and extremely difficult to enroll them if they live out of district in any of the Utah County Schools.
Students should not be allowed to play sports in the high school they attend if they do not live within that school boundary.
The rules that are set by the UHASS for should be the same for all schools. When you start making exceptions that is when the balance is off.

what a joke! all the st. george schools will be well over 1000 students next year. The even bigger joke is the fact icsd wants cedar and canyon view to play the region with all games counting for state births. yes that is right a st. george team can lose all of its games against the other 4a schools in the region and still qualify for state in 4a. If the uhsaa allows this to happen I would be upset if I were in another 4a region.

I agree! Rules should be set and followed by all schools. If rules need to be changed then change them for all the schools. That is what keeps the system fair!
1000+ student=4A
All students must play sports in their own school boundaries. If they want to attend school somewhere else, ok, but if you play sports you must play for your home school.

Uintah will be welcomed in the new region 8. There will be those that gripe about the travel, but somebody was going to have to. With timpview's principal having the attitude that his school wasn't going to travel 3hrs. for games you can see who won out. Uintah will drive right past timpview on their way to the Nebo schools. It would have made more sense to have them in region 7 (would have saved some travel time and expense), and kept Provo in region 8 (which is what most of their coaches wanted). Brainless should have not been allowed to have any say in the matter, with his position on the board. Anyway welcome Uintah and good luck.

Thank you for welcoming us to Region 8. We look forward to working with you. We have already been treated well by many of the principals, A.D.s, and coaches of Region 8 who have already contacted our school. We are excited to be in our new region.

As soon as Hurricane and Desert Hills hit the 1000 plus enrollment numbers..Region 9 will all be 4A. The Cedar schools will be sent to play with Delta. But in the meantime, it's not working that well. But going back to 3A is not an option.

It is obvious that the TV is one of the "high school" programs that "wag" the UHSAA dog. The question is when will it stop? The people who make these arbitrary decisions have been exposed for what they truly represent.

In the meantime its not working that well?? But it will work well when Desert Hills and Hurricane are in 4A,ya right,it will just mean that there will be 2 more teams that will have NO chance to win a state championship.TV will have some competition from some schools up north but unless PV pulls a TV and they might,look to see if kids from Dixie and SC suddenly show up at PV,but if not,nobody from down south is going to threaten the northern 4A teams.

Why does Region 9 feel they need to hijack every article? I think you believe you a much more important than you are. You know longer need to post the following statements, we have heard them in almost every discussion board for the past two years:

1. You are picked on
2. You have the best teams in the world
3. Officals cheat you in every loss
4. Your coaches know far less than your parents
5. You hate each other
6.Your school is the only school with ethics.
7. All non starters are really Division 1 athletes and the coaches don't play them because of "politics"

Can't you people start a discussion board in The Spectrum so we can discuss sports without having to read the same boring posts from Region 9.

Please know the exact information on numbers before stating facts. You just don't know do ya? What a school is staffed for and what shows up are two different numbers.

Has the D-News announced some kind of cyber shortage? What kind of person gets on here and complains because people want to discuss relevant issues? Isn't this a public forum? I agree with the 5:08 post: dude, you don't like it, take your obvious bias and go somewhere else.
